So far looks like Safe Insight might fit the bill ans would be ideal since they use my local range. Has anyone used them? VIP CCW looks like another option but seems the online class still has to be scheduled (zoom) rather than self directed, online at anytime (which I?d prefer - if that even exists).

I?d appreciate any suggestions and experiences here. Thanks!
I contacted Safe Insight (www.safeinsight.net) to confirm how their program works and they confirmed that with their online CCW class they allow for the entire classroom portion to be done on your time, bit by by, as you see fit. No scheduling zoom calls or anything like that. It's completely self directed after a quick, scheduled intro and of course the live fire test.

They aren't cheap, but I think the convenience will be worth it for me. They also do the live fire from a range which is only a few miles from my home so that's a huge plus as well. I'll probably sign up pretty soon and start chipping away at my classroom instruction. This is such a good option as I'd probably have to wait months for my schedule to clear up enough to schedule a normal, full day class.

Got called for interview about 3 months ago and then an email stating to proceed with training. I do not remember which handgun I out down in my initial application was submitted back in 2021 almost 2.5 years ago. If I use different handguns during firearm qualification that's different than what I listed in my initial application, would it be an issue? Emailed the ccw unit and haven't got a response

Won't be an issue. What ever handguns are on the certificate are the ones that will be on the permit.

Whatever guns you qualify with during your training, are the ones that will be on the certificate that you submit to the agency that you are seeking the CCW from.

Between the time I submitted my application to the time I took my training, I sold one of the firearms that I initially put on my application. I just qualified with a different handgun, and it was fine.

              1. Treat all guns as if loaded (even when you know they aren't).
              2. Never point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
              3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
              4. Know your target and what is beyond it (avoid all collateral damage).

                I don't get it.

I turned in my appl. in June of 2022. Like a lot of you.

June 2022 applicants got interview calls in January and February. I got nothing.

I got two of those emails: "Your application has been received..." but no calls.

Is there any way to find out the truth here? I feel like I'm being lied to.

There is no such thing as a timeline. There are guesses and estimates but you can think of every application as a one-off process.

This is not true. Maybe SOME people got their calls for interviews in those months, but not all. Generally, right now, you should expect a FULL YEAR from time of application submission to call for interview.

I applied in March of 2022 and got my call for interview in March 2023 - a couple days over a full year from submission. My neighbor who applied in June last year has not gotten his call. You're not being lied to, you're on schedule it seems and not one of the lucky ones getting called 9mon after submission.

Be patient, there are a LOT of people in line and they're working diligently thru the list as quickly as they're able.

Ditto on what DB2896 typed out. Also another thing to take note on is that post-bruen so many applied with LASD and LAPD that the ones that applied with LAPD were clogging this thread up and mixing things up with this LASD thread.

Hang on in there you should be receiving something soon. I applied in July and earlier this month I called the Sheriff I spoke with told me I was entered into the system for November. At the time of the phone call she told me they were working on August entries. So I'm assuming I wont get a call until August or September maybe.

The average wait time between mail date and call for interview date for "end of June" applicants is 327 days with the longest we have recorded at 345 days. All of this is a very small sample size, but just know you're not alone. I submitted in the end of June 2022 and got a call to interview this month. Anyone that reported significantly less than a year is, in my opinion, a lucky outlier.

Yay for you is right. I am very envious.

                                And i understand your enthusiasm.

However, given you submitted your app just one month before mine yet you are now done and I have yet to receive an interview call, I don't feel the LASD should feel proud. To me it only shows significant disorganization in the CCW unit; that one can have such drastically differences in experience from applicant to applicant.

I do appreciate the professionalism they showed for the one time I called about 4 weeks ago, and I know they have a crap load of applications to get through with limited budget; but to date I have received no proactive status updates, no completion estimation time, or even info on how they are going to improve their response times. Taking over one year from start to finish is not acceptable, and given their silence only makes it that much more of a rub.

In my line of work, I would be fired for what they have delivered (i.e. "not delivered") to date.

Guess when you have a monopoly on CCWs you can get away with this; and its not lost on me my whining truly means nothing because of their monopoly. =)

Sorry to rant. Back to being the little guy.

Really hoping things speed up soon though.
