You cannot assume the agencies do not communicate. I had an application in for LAPD when LASD dropped their requirement for an LAPD denial letter. Within days of that change and LASD receiving my direct application, LAPD called stating they compared applicant lists and did I want to drop my application with them, LAPD?

Was wondering the same. I was thinking to go submit it downtown rather than a local station to speed up the process somewhat. I would imagine someone should be able to receive applications but I could be wrong. I'm actually in LAPD jurisdiction and I am on their wait list but they're taking their sweet time waiting for SB 918 to pass.Just found out about this deadline yesterday. Anyone know if it would work to walk it in to my local sheriff's station today? Would there by anyone there to receive it and would they timestamp it?
Alternative is shipping it via UPS/FedEx since every USPS is closed today.Comment

When 918 goes into effect....
My worry is that SB 918 will pass, be signed, and go into effect within the next few days. If so, there is the risk that all pending applications will be invalidated due to lack of character references; or that the existing application form will for one or another reason be invalidated and a brand new application required.
If that happens, those of us patiently waiting may be required to re-apply, back to the bottom of the pile. Worse, those of us in cities like Los Angeles will need to wait for the LAPD or other local PD to gear up their procedures. And, unlike the Sheriff, they will likely do this without a trace of cooperation.
My only hope is that Antonyuk vs Bruen will result in a clear, resounding rejection of New Yorks new law; and that California will delay implementation of 918 or a variant of it.
But I'm not hopeful...Comment

The bigger concern in regards to SB 918 is that once passed and I believe it will pass only to be fought vehemently, is that the areas we will be able to carry legally will be so scarce it makes a CCW almost useless in CA.

No way to predict. In New York, they put a freeze on gun permits not issued prior to some specific date. Then they said would be a six month delay while they create the new application form.
Who's to say what the people here will do. I wouldn't plan on it being supportive to us.
Under most circumstances, laws are written to go into effect after some reasonable interval after signing. This is written to be an urgency measure, meaning it goes into effect immediately.
So yes, I can imagine a lowlife like Bonta saying all applications need to be on some new form that hasn't yet been created. Just like in New York...
We shall see...Comment

Dang. I live in La city so I’m under LAPD jurisdiction looks like I missed the august 1 postmark deadline so now I’m going to have to go through LAPD right?
Dragged my feet since I had no good cause. Seems like I should have applied with light green 6 months ago and when they finally got to me I would have been good to go. Hindsight is 20/20Comment
