If there's a yellow GC that gets denied we're shutting the party down boys.

Sorry for leaving you all hanging after that bombshell last night and this morning. May or may not be a little hungover/food coma'd from..... coping... last night. I'm going to try and address some of the clarification questions on this page of the thread:

I was told to proceed to live scan via email notification about one week after my interview with my interviewing deputy. Yes, I preemptively did a live scan about a month and a half or so prior to being contacted for my interview, but that one was definitely on me. After being told to get my live scan done, I went and got a second one. The denial is solely based on good cause, according to the letter.

      This too is my theory.

This was my experience as well and, based on the follow up phone call I received 09/01 to confirm good cause (which I mentioned here before), I think this lack of information/material communication, and the significant deputy-to-deputy discrepancy regarding what they consider to be "sufficient evidence of good cause" played a large part in my denial.

To simplify the phone conversation I had with the deputy on 09/01, I'll focus on the LG GC she primarily emphasized and not the other unrelated things we talked about. At base, the LG GC she focused on was one that involved carrying expensive nighttime photography equipment to isolated areas and getting gas going to/from these locations etc. Obviously more detailed than that in my statement, but that's the gist of it.

The evidence I provided in my initial application was pretty extensive for all of the three good causes I listed, however I would say that particular element had the least "proof" provided in the initial app. When I sent the app in, the supplement I provided for that GC was, from what I can remember, primarily a map of a sample route I take to one of the locations, overlaid with a cell coverage map from my cell carrier. When I was called for my interview, the interviewing deputy told me to bring photos of the equipment I bring with me and keep in my car, and receipts/valuations of the equipment. Most of the equipment were either gifts or purchased in person long ago enough that I could not find receipts for them, so I brought photos of the equipment with valuations printed below each picture derived from the values I could find online. In the interview, the deputy noted that the value of the equipment I included was not that much (it was a few thousand), and asked if I had gas station receipts, which I did not at the time or a parks pass, which I had at home and told him I would email a scan of it when I returned, which I did. The interviewing deputy did not want to focus on that good cause and moved on. I never got confirmation he received the emailed scans and don't know if they ever ended up in my file.

Fast forward to the 09/01 phone call, the investigator I spoke to seemed far more interested in that good cause and noted that, for her, that was a "good enough" good cause. In the interim between my interview and that phone call, I acquired much better equipment to up my game and had receipts to show that along with gas station receipts from the trips I made after the interview. I noted all of this and asked her if she would like me to send copies of all of that over to add to my file, to which she replied that the evidence she already had was plenty and that nothing more was necessary for her to make my case. She said she was putting my application forward as approved for Good Cause before we ended the call.

That is correct. However, I submitted my training documents the week after the follow-up phone call because I felt encouraged when I was told she was putting my app forward as approved for good cause and to contact them in four weeks if I had not heard anything by then.

      I hope the above helped!
Sorry to hear about your denial. I hope you get a better shot if you choose to re-apply. I'm just speculating, but based on the above, it sounds like the actual decision makers didn't think your activity was frequent enough to justify them issuing you a permit (them asking about gas receipts). Regardless, I hope you're not too discouraged. As I've stated before, going LG GC is going to be more of an uphill battle. Let's hope this isn't a trend, since you're really the first LG applicant to have reported an insufficient GC denial.

Did anyone tell whoever this post is in reference to to read my CCW Application Advice thread pinned at the top of the forum? Do you guys ever do that? If not, why not? I put a ton of effort into it and make it freely available to the public for a reason: to get more CCWers across the state.

Posts like this, and even worse ones about anal hygiene, are an embarrassment. Do you really think AV wants people who publicly post such garbage to be among the privileged few who have CCWs with his signature on it? To carry concealed handguns in public?

CA is not Shall Issue. LA has only been issuing more for about a year. Yet some posters are acting like frat boys…. Read my Advice thread’s first 3 posts where I talk about GMC and being mature, responsible, self controlled, a pillar of the community. (This is directed to all whom it applies, not Lockdown in particular.)

Shape up gentlemen. Time to get back to taking this application process seriously. We haven’t won a Right to Carry at SCOTUS yet.

ETA: IIRC CCWfacts spent like a year conscientiously developing his GMC before applying. I think I copied his post at the end of my thread.

Some of you newbies should go back to the posts in this thread from when Villanueva first said he’d issue more permits on 2020 June 15 to the end of that year to see how seriously we took applying and how a few long time members wouldn’t believe things were changing.

Don’t make posts that can ID you or match your CGN username to your CCW application. They can then log on and read any of your posts….

Re seaweed, my bet is if he upgraded his equipment 6 months before applying and had enclosed those gas receipts he would have succeeded. Upgrading afterwards makes it smell like a improvised GC just to get a CCW. Not saying it is, but nobody likes being played….

Like I say in my CCW Application Advice thread, think of this like applying for a job. The time for levity is only after you have “permit in hand.”

Hopefully SCOTUS will change things before next July 4th. But we’re not there yet.

I only came back here because someone PMed me about the denial. I’m leaving again, busy with other matters. Use my CCW Application Advice thread pinned at the top of the forum!!!

Paladin, although I generally agree with this statement, that particular good cause was not the only good cause I provided. At the time of application, I put forward one of my other Light Green good causes with significant evidence and records to back it up, 80-90% of which was refused by my interviewing deputy as unnecessary and never made it into my file. You're right in that I may have gotten it had the timing been better, but to me it feels like there is more to the story to have gone from two encouraging signs of approval to a denial letter within three weeks time

I get that it's always been the case that the higher-ups make the final call, but even still, the deputy telling Seaweed is good cause was solid on the phone sounds consistent with a recent internal policy change. I.e. between his phone call and the denial, some edict came down tightening the GC requirements.

It's also not impossible this was a fluke caused by someone having a bad day, or something unique to Seaweed. Guess we'll see how other green GCs go to confirm one way or another.

Seaweed, thanks for sharing. I know its a huge bummer and you are probably in no mood to talk about it. But you are doing us a service. I suspect others were denied too but just ghosted the forum after that.
