I almost wish I didn't do the training early just to get confirmation to do the training (which means it's LIKELY to get issued). It's the not knowing in limbo that really sucks. If that cost an additional month of time, I prefer to take that than NOT KNOWING what the hell is going on with my application lol.02.28.22 - Application mailed
07.13.22 - Live Scan complete
11.03.22 - Interview
01.14.23 - Proceed to training authorization
01.21.23 - Cert submitted
01.23.23 - Acknowledged receipt
03.12.23 - Call to schedule pickup

Ya, my thinking was that doing the training early would speed things up, because they don't put you back into a pile awaiting a "proceed with training" email, and instead move you to the final up or down decision.Mine thanked me for not "skipping steps" but there wasn't any implication that it would harm eligibility. Assuming you know your background checks will come back clean, I think doing the training early makes sense if you don't mind a gap of being in limbo. I am not so sure it matters for the livescan since there will be a gap between the interview and the next step no matter what.
I was asked for further documentation a month after my interview, I had already sent in the training certificates pre-emptively. I am hoping that the next step for me is the pickup date and they are just processing that I did the training. I almost wish I didn't do the training early just to get confirmation to do the training (which means it's LIKELY to get issued). It's the not knowing in limbo that really sucks. If that cost an additional month of time, I prefer to take that than NOT KNOWING what the hell is going on with my application lol.
Now I'm wondering if maybe it would have been smarter to do the training early, but not submit the paperwork until they ask for it. Because I've heard zilch for 2.5 months. Hope I didn't accidentally land my app in some weird bureaucratic purgatory because I "broke" the usual process by submitting early lol.sigpicComment

Right at 1 month since my application was received, still no check cashed, hope they know its only good for another 5 months lmao. Still waiting for the next step even if it is only a cashed check at least.....Good Luck to everybodyIt should be noted to all newer people (welcome to the party, pal) that the check's cashed date doesn't really mean much in the process. What it does confirm is that your application was received, if you did not send it via certified mail. Does not affect the order in which your application is processed as there were cases where their check was not cashed until after the interview.

Guys, there is ZERO point in doing the training early. I had so many people in my class that were doing it without even submitting their apps in yet.
What if you do the training, then later you get a new gun & want that on your list instead ? From the time I applied, to getting my interview, being told to proceed with training, it took months. By the time I got the ok & proceeded to do training, I had purchased new guns. I changed every single gun that I had originally wrote down on my application.Comment

While I generally agree that emailing probably isn't helpful, two points in response to this:
1. This is my first such email in the over two months since my interview, and the deputy had said to check in after two months if I hadn't heard anything.
2. I doubt that the person responding to the CCW unit emails is doing the heavy lifting in terms of processing and approving any applications, so their replies likely have no bearing on the speed of processing applications overall. It's probably a clerical employee, not a deputy. I very well could be wrong.sigpicComment

@meanspartan
Point number 2 is incorrect when I did my interview the interviewing deputy let me know that emailing them only slows them down so to being understaffed. The deputies who are replying to emails are the ones getting the apps ready for the lieutenant to either approve or deny. So it in fact does slow the process down when emailing them.GC: Yellowish/Light Green

1. If everybody emailed even just once during their application process that would be well over 5,000 emails. So you are contributing to it even if you just email once. While I generally agree that emailing probably isn't helpful, two points in response to this:
1. This is my first such email in the over two months since my interview, and the deputy had said to check in after two months if I hadn't heard anything.

It's probably a clerical employee, not a deputy. I very well could be wrong.
2. It is obviously the same person who receives the training docs since that’s the email we are asked to send our training docs to so they would have to wade through the emails of status updates to find them hence slowing down the process.
3. No matter what your mother told you, you are not special. No one has gotten anything but a generic response but somehow you believe you are the exception, not the rule.
4. Just wait patiently. They will get to you.
This is not personally directed at you just a general PSA for everyone who emails and calls for status updates.LA County CCW HolderComment
