Add one more Calgunner to the approved permit list!
Big thanks to Palidin for spreading the word about the LASD CCW changes.
With dark red good cause, I've applied three times over the last decade with nothing to come of it but a form letter rejection.
The forth times the charm apparently. Five week from start to finish.
I'm going to write a thank you to Sheriff Villenueva as suggested and will do whatever I can to support him ($$$, yard signs, social media, family/friend influence, etc) on his upcoming reelection.

I included all of my documents with my original application. But I think either will work. I would definitely include all documentation supporting your good cause at the very least. If they might question your GC, maybe having the documentation will sway them to at least give you an interview.
My goal was to turn in the most complete application as possible.Comment

I didn't include copies of my DL or passport. When they contacted me for my interview, the deputy instructed me to bring my DL, passport/birth certificate and utility bill. It probably won't hurt you to include it with your application, but it will save you some stamp if you don't. Not including these documents didn't prevent me from getting the interview.NRA Benefactor Life Member

I dropped mine off at the local LASD station. I've too many things lost by the USPS, so when it's important, I don't use mail. It's also quicker since LASD sends things interdepartmentally. I left something off my application and received an email two days later with instructions to correct it. USPS would have taken several days under good circumstances if I'd mailed the application.Last edited by recoil; 03-10-2021, 12:07 PM.Comment

Does it matter what LASD station we drop it off at? I have a local one 10 mins away.

I'd call ahead. I don't know if the recent changes affect this, but previously, the only place that would accept the application from a walk-in was the Monterey Park location at 4700 Ramona, which is also where you'll do your interview.NRA Benefactor Life Member

Regarding the training
I asked at my in person interview if I could proactively perform the training while they were still considering my application.
They stated they don't tell people to do it (because they might not approve the permit and the applicant would have wasted that time and money) but if I wanted to do it early on my own initiative they would have no problem with it.
I was actually sitting in the CCW class at firing line Burbank when a LASD CCW department email instructing me to proceed to livescan popped up on my phone.
It probably sped the process up a week or more by knocking that out earlyLast edited by smogcity; 03-11-2021, 8:04 AM.Comment

What kind of supporting documentation did you include with your GC statement?I included all of my documents with my original application. But I think either will work. Are news articles/reports enough? Thanks in advanceComment
