SMC Sheriff taking forever...Intentional stalling?
I'm curious if there are any current lawsuits pending against the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department for taking so much time to process Concealed Carry Permits? 10 months and counting...

It was a nice gesture though; Gose was the first student who brought treats to a class. So kudos to him for doing that.Leave a comment:

Initially scheduled with Saber, but due to a little snafu on my side, I had to cancel. Even with all the pressure and work theyre seeing from all the new permits, they showed some excellent communications and customer service, so big kudos to them too!
Picked up my renewed permit yesterday, so good for another two years! \o/
While there, they mentioned that they have gone from ~300 permits to closer to 3000! Considering that only 5-10% of those 300 were new each year, they've gone from 15-30 new permits / year to~2500! That's some pretty crazy scale-up.
Big kudos to Jennifer down at the SMSD for always being so positive and service minded. I can only imagine how this changed her job situation over the last year!Leave a comment:

Hi all - just a quick note. We are unaffected by the Emergency Rule/ SB2 as we are all POST certified firearms instructors. We know a lot of people are going to be effected by this change so we're going to be increasing the amount of classes to help take care of everyone. If your class gets cancelled with another vendor, please keep an eye on our website as we add more classes. Feel free to message us here or email at training@sabertactics.com if you need any help.Leave a comment:

gemini1,
I just sent an email tonight to Robert Pronske and Vielka McCarthy to confirm.
update:
This is what Robert wrote:
“... The Sheriff's Office is requiring testing of all applicants who had not been issued a permit prior to July 1st. Thank you.”
They must have changed their policy post Sept. 2022.Last edited by tonyl; 12-14-2023, 12:35 PM.Leave a comment:

A quick update to share
01/01/23: Submitted application
04/26/23: Livescan complete
I just had my interview. She is very friendly and last approximately 15 minutes with 31 questions via MSFT Teams. Identical questions as noted from others with the addition of
* Served in the military
* My experience with firearms
General questions were asked:
* How long have you lived at your current address
* Who do you live with
* How old are you kids
* Where do you work, what do you do and how long
* How would your family / co-workers describe you
* Have you ever applied to CCW
* Have you ever been:
-- Detain (this includes traffic stop or any interactions with police)
-- Arrested
-- Civil lawsuits
-- Physical/ verbal altercations
-- In a gang
* Taking pysch meds
* Any other meds that will hinder the handling of firearm
* Do you drink alcohol
The next step is a psych exam. It will cost $150.00 with around 400-500 questions.
If anyone gone through a psych exam, I would love to hear your experience.
Thanks
"The Sheriff's Office will be requiring psychological testing for all NEW applicants effective July 1, 2023."
I have confirmed that with Gina, I got my permit without taking the psych exam. The only difference was, the same interviewer (Vielka?) called back twice to clarify my responses on the first interview.Leave a comment:

Update on my application.
Done with the firearms qualification last Saturday 11/18.23, with Saber Tactics. These guys are something else! The weather was lousy, everyone was soaked from the on/off drizzle, but we went ahead and finished the course. I think there were 5 or 6 guys from Saber who were attentive to what everyone was doing, making sure all are safe. Highly recommended!
Got my certificate from Ephraim yesterday and I forwarded a copy to Jennifer Valdez that same night.
Got an email back from Jennifer this morning, and I can come next week to pick up my permit.
Applied Sept. 2022, so it's a little over a year. But no psych exam!Leave a comment:

Yup psychologist said he?d pass me into the sherif.
I contacted the person who was emailing me about the interview and got a generic response of ?your applications with the sheriff admin now and should hear back hopefully soon?
Was wondering if anyone?s heard anything different or if everyone?s just in the same boat.

Just completed my live fire qualification over the weekend. The whole process took 12 months from when I submitted my application to the Sheriff. The guys at Saber Tactics are great - highly recommend going with them for the classroom and qualification portion of the process.Leave a comment:
