Thank you Kate for the detailed information. It is very encouraging.

I’m also interested in the issue of serial numbers. A number of CA Sheriffs allow you to have more than 3 weapons on your permit. It is my understanding that there is no such limit anywhere in State law and that Gore’s justification for only allowing 3 was that there was only room for 3 on the CA DOJ supplied paper permit. Now that that paper form is no longer used, that justification goes away. Would there be room for more than 3 on the new format? Does anybody know anything about a possible relaxation of the limit of 3?

It DOES have my picture on it. Since mine was an update, it had the exact picture from when the permit was issued. The aspect ratio of the picture has changed slightly, so my face put on 10 pounds in the translation, as did my signature on the back. (It is strange to see my squishy signature streeeetched out a bit.) It also has a Restrictions section that now says, "VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW. NOT VALID IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY COURTHOUSE If the bearer of this license is arrested for any reason, officer is authorized to take possession of license." AND there is a SDCSD phone number, "For Information Regarding this card..." And there is a facsimile of Sheriff Gore's signature.

I should add that the format makes it more clear WHICH of the numbers (CII#, Local Agency Number, and ORI number) is the actual Permit number, for those who might not be familiar with all the acronyms...

    Update on SDCSD Processing

    Hello All,
I just got back from my appointment to pick up my updated CCW. As noted above, I had filled out Permitium in early April. the SDCSD called me a couple weeks back and scheduled an appointment for 10:00 AM this morning.

Being pathologically early to everything, I arrived at the Licensing desk at 9:41. It took a bit to find a parking space because most of the "Public" marked spaces were full. On the sign in sheet, every single person on the sheet before me had, "CCW" listed as the purpose for their visit. I had to re-fill out the written application, so I sat in 1 of the four (4) seats available, as all the other seats are taped off. I was called back a couple minutes later, and laying on the counter in front of my assigned window were a new credit card CCW, and the printed version of the old form with all the new information. The credit card CCW is apparently the NEW version, but not yet approved by the DoJ. (It's fun that the Sheriff has issues with the DoJ too!) So, the old format is the one to carry today, but Marissa said the new one would go live at some point. I put my thumb print on both copies of the old paper format permit, and Marissa took them to be laminated. 90 seconds later, I had the new credit card version and the new CCW in the old format in my hands. I was sitting in my car to leave by 9:58.

To me there were 3 things to note:

    1. Every single person was amazingly super nice and helpful.
    2. The place was REALLY busy. There was a constant flow of people in and out, and at least 4 service windows running concurrently.
    3. The SDCSD is OPEN for CCW business. And, the process was REALLY simple/easy. The person on my left was renewing his CCW, and the person on my right was a first timer. Between the three of us, we covered just about all of the typical transactions. All were happening TODAY.

HTH give y'all an idea of the current situation.

I was told that they were going in priority of those with appointments AND the online form filled out. My original appointment was 4/2 (SEVEN months after I called for the appointment).

Just for fun I went to the site to change my appointment. The 1st "available" was 12/7/20! I sure hope it isn't that long!!

LOL - I never imagined SD County would ever be granting CCWs like they have been, let alone with an on-line application... yet hear we are.

I did not pay online. They made no mention of their prioritization scheme, but it seems it was not FIFO...

byteheed--That certainly seems to be the case both by the Permitium site that says it is not being monitored, AND by the SDSO site that suggests there are no appointments being scheduled until further notice. I guess the question on the table is: Are these two statements in the websites still true as written, or are they left over from a previous policy state and applications can be processed.

    Bummer.
I didn't try, don't need to right now. Are you saying that you applied and it wouldn't give you an appointment? It shouldn't need to be monitored to assign an appointment.
