    Hi All,

Just got my approval. Looking for recommendations on a CCW course in San Diego. I see that some offer private and some multiple students. Any experience better or worse? Thanks for the help.

Resource wise, I don't believe they are equipped/staff'd to support the high volume that's happened since Bruen.

I've had my permit for five years now...so the original and then I've been through the renewal process twice now. Each time the process has been a bit different as the Sheriff has refined/improved the process. It's just about all automated at this point (Permitium), and I believe there is only one physical visit to the sheriff's office instead of the three trips it was five years ago (that was really annoying). But if I'm wrong about that, somebody please correct me.

But they need to do much better. The permitting process should should only take 30 days max whether it's a first permit or a renewal. That is consistent with a lot of other states. Anything longer and I would argue it's a violation of constitutional rights. And obviously, even requiring a permit in the first place is unconstitutional. But if it's going to be a requirement, then it should only take 30 days. They need to fix this. But it will take a lawsuit to do that and there are currently bigger fish to fry.

Had my appointment today. Showed up about 25 min before my appointment time, was back out the door in about 45 min total. Was interesting to see the mix of folks waiting. I was a little surprised to see about 1/4 women. Some older, but some younger too. Good to see so many take in interest in their own well-being.
I hadn't checked permitium in quite a while to try to move my appointment (I was lazy) but I did see the sign in the office says they've added Fridays for appointments. Anybody confirm? That will help burn down the "one year wait" bs, instead of Mondays only, but it really should be more days than that even. But the process is dumb, and the appointment was altogether pointless. They only do 3 things. Ask you to your face if the stuff you typed in the online form is correct, and you say "yes". Livescan prints. Take your photo. That's it. And it's "wait your turn" for all 3 steps separately, like at the DMV. What they really should do is allow people to do their own livescans, like they do for COE, there's no reason to only do it at the appointment time. They didn't even check my ID until the fingerprint part for the livescan (and they didn't even look at it, just stuck it in the machine), which could be done at any livescan location. There is zero reason you can't do the whole process 100% without the appointment at all, and the end result would be the same. Maybe they make you come in for the photo, which takes 3 minutes and they could do hundreds a day. Their current process stretches it out as literally long as possible.

YMMV.

    Congrats too!

Yes, enter ALL the pistols you want on the permit.

I think it depends on the instructor/company. It wasn't required of me from DTF in Fallbrook

I guess I would have been waiting for forever, instructor just told me to upload the cert. I see that I am supposed to email them now at the bottom of the last email from the Sherrif Department.

    Thanks!

With that being said after I did my 8hr/shoot course and uploaded my certificate (March 2) on the online tracker Permitium website. Received an email from SD Sheriff:

?You have been placed in an issuance queue and your license will be mailed to the address listed on your application. If there are ANY changes to your application, please notify our office via email at ccw@sdsheriff.org.
Your CCW license will be mailed to you within a few weeks.?

Just a FEW stretches away I guess..lol? and that??s ok.
