On Friday, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signed a law he said will keep some of the most dangerous guns off the streets.

"House Bill 5043: An Act Concerning Convertible Pistols" was passed during the most recent legislative session.

The law, which goes into effect on Oct. 1, makes it illegal to sell semi-automatic weapons that could be easily modified to become fully automatic weapons, just by adding a convertor device.

Only a handful of other states, like California, have passed similar laws. That’s why Connecticut lawmakers say they hope the federal government joins suit and bans these devices at a national level.
