off list rifle to registered "assault weapon".
Just wondering something.
If someone owned 2 Stag off list rifles and that person was moving to California and wanted to bring them in what would be the best way? The trick though, that person has already submitted an application for the MAWP because they dont want to mess around with the "possibilities" associated with OLRs. If the permit does not come through before this person moves, what are thier choices??? This is the idea I had, but dont want to suggest it if its going to cause this person to break the law and possibly go to jail! Buy a magazine lock, put it on, take the rifle with you. When the permit comes in, take the magazine lock off, re-install the regular mag release, be happy. Bad idea? Why? Thanks for the help! |

Given that cops are already doing it in a variety of SoCal PDs - buying nonlisted firearms from FFL and then assembling after permit issued - I think it's OK.
DOJ really has no way of knowing when such a person brought in the firearm to CA anyway. They're just happy getting some paper to process. Turns out issuance of a permit allows assembly/manufacture as per 12280(h) so issues of 'complete AW' vs assembly (that I worried about a week ago in another thread) are moot.
