Default Help Wanted: Gun Policy Work

Quote:
From: Grollman, Laurin

Looking for lawyers who are out of work who might want to do paid work for mayors against illegal guns (www.mayorsagainstillegalguns.org) for the next few days/week or so, starting ASAP (today if possible, and working over the weekend if possible). $20/hour. Work is doing a 50-state survey of castle doctrine expansion laws, in light of Trayvon Martin shooting. Interesting and timely stuff, but somewhat complicated.

Laurin Grollman

Senior Counsel for Firearms Policy

Office of the Mayor of New York City
Bloomberg Counsel seeks out-of-work attorneys to research Castle/Stand Your Ground doctrine, 'ASAP'

Interesting. At least we know what direction the next assault is coming from.

As usual, I encourage folks, lawyers or not, NYC/NY State residents or not, to apply for this job. Flood them with applicants. Bury them under mountains of paper.

As an aside, it appears that the Mayor is using City resources and City time to promote/benefit a non-City affiliated organization. Somehow, I think that's probably illegal. If you know them, please reach out to friends in NYC who might be able to look into this...

$20/hr for attorneys? That seems low.

They're gonna get the legal advice they paid for.

I'd bet this is somehow run out of Bloomie's office budget for 'discrtionary' items so they're doing it on the cheap.

Every lawyer we know - employed or not - should contact and "ask for more information".

Notice that the ad comes from Bloomie's office but the work is to benefit MAIG. There's gotta be something illegal in there.

Is Laurin B. Grollman the the same attorney who is of counsel on this brief for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. as amicus curiae in support of petitioners in McDonald v Chicago?

Is she playing both sides of the fence?

It appears so according to bar registration.

I typically lurk but the Trayvon case is one I've been working on. I do this on-line column for Examiner, and I simply could not pass this bit with Bloomberg up.

Maybe some of you will get a grin.

Billionaire Bloomy begs for $20 hr. out-of-work lawyers to attack SYG

As if the dark comedy of publicity hounds jumping in front of every available television camera regarding the Trayvon Martin case wasn’t bad enough, anti-gun New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is apparently looking for really cut-rate out-of-work attorneys to do some digging on behalf of Mayors Against Illegal Guns regarding “Castle Doctrine” – and presumably Stand-Your-Ground” – laws.

LOL @ $20/hour.

Lawyers for this calibre of work should be billing $300/400+ per hour if they want to pull the wool over.

Nice column.

Why does this offer remind me of the punch-line "We've already established that, now we're haggling over the price."?

I wonder if he'd throw in a NYC LTC and a furnished loft in SOHO.
