Default 2008 Hipowers and S&W only as far as handguns..oh well

My FFL said for 2008, mag disconnect and chamber indicators are required on all handguns to be sold in CA....so your only choices will be HiPowers (Browning & FN) and S&W auto...I knew S&W was kissing somebody's butt!
Glock, Springfield and Sig already said they are not going to play the game as it will require a major re-design..

Anything that is currently certified now will be exempted from the new laws as long as the certification remains current. If the firearm fails a test and is removed, or if the manufacturer forgets to renew their certification and the firearm drops off the list, then it would need to meet the new criteria.

Sounds like he's just trying to get you to buy a bunch of handguns.

S&W had the mag disconnect for a long time. The butt kissing happened when they were owned by a british company and started doing to the clinton administration what monica did for bill. they are now owned by americans now.
Correct me if Im wrong but I beleive that was correct.

Why anyone would want to own any handgun other than the Hi-Power is beyond me.

+1... course everyone needs a 1911 to compliment the hi-power, kind of like father and son.

FYI, I heard FN is going to stop (or already has) importing the Hi Power....it's just Browning now (overpriced IMO). Good thing I picked up one up.

I want to pick a Hi-Power, just wish they had the beaver-tail option the 1911 has.

What is the reasoning behind the mag disconnect? I understand the loaded chamber indicator and like that feature. But the disconnect is so dumb.

Nanny state. Protect the poor morons from themselves.

Anyone who takes the mag out of a gun and proceeds to point it at themselves and pull the trigger deserves what they get.

The HiPower grip is way too fat for me And that trigger...it's just weird.

The hi power was designed as a military weapon, so they felt like they had to incorporate safety features so that dumb conscripts don't shoot themselves. (1911 grip safety anyone?) Another line of reasoning goes that if a bad guy is trying to get ahold of your weapon, you can just drop the mag and make it non-functional so you don't get shot by your own gun.

Either way the mag safety is a MAJOR PITA but it can be removed in less than 5 minutes.

So long as they manufacture keeps up their renewals, you'll be buying 1911's in 2008, 2009, etc...they also need to keep it the same which shouldn't be a big deal since it's the practically the same gun since the early 1900's...

I used to be a "tupperware" gun type too when I first got into pistols but I have to say, I'm a HUGE fan of the 1911 (and the Hi-Power to a lesser degree) now. IMO, no Glock, USP, etc. will EVER have the classic good looks of a 1911...nor will they have the trigger pull, user ergonomics (in relation to safety features) or accuracy of a quality 1911.

It also seems as though pistols that were submitted before the end of the year can still get on this list.

Nope you're right. Clinton got one and Monica gave it

Seriously, I did/do think S&W is back to American owned isn't it?

Browning stopped making much in the way of Hi-powers quite some time ago... the last mass runs of Hi-powers were produced FOR Browning by FN anyway, and when Browning decided to lower production FN just stopped stamping them all Browning, now the majority of them are stamped FN. I was under the impression Browning had completely halted their production, but their website does still show the Mark III, so perhaps they are still making a limited number (which would explain the price difference). So if FN has indeed halted production, (which may be the case, I have been having trouble ordering them) It's safe to say any Hi-power at all will become hard to come by.

And yep, S&W is back to American ownership and stopped being so flexible for the anti's.

Mag-disconnect? ridiculous... loaded chamber indicator? retarded. What happened to "treat every weapon as if it were loaded"? I think these "idiot proofs" will only further some people's lack of gun safety.
