Default What kind of ammo does the military use?

Hi guys,

All these threads about what ammo to use for our AR's. What does the military use for our troops? Do the elite units get "better" ammo than the regular grunts?

usually ammo from who ever is the lowest bidding contractor?

But in all seriousness Lake City supplies a lot of lead to many branches of the armed forces.

Here is 5.56 Federal Lake City XM855LC AC1 62gr for $333.33 to your doorstep. I am not sure the differences between XM855 and those with letters afterwards, My understanding is that a lot is rejected for whatever reason from the military, but still acceptable.

Same with the XM855, I don't know if I would call it scraps though.

Umm no,
The military has not widely issued M193 since we had M16A1s 30 years ago.

All M193 produced nowadays is mostly sold to LE or exported to countries that use slower twist rifles. M193 is considered obsolete for military use.

Yes M855 is the primary 5.56 round. Interested in reports on how well the Mk318 round is doing. Supposedly the Corps have officially adopted this round, any JarHeads out there who can confirm this?

Every 5.56 round I fired while I was in the service was stamped LC. This includes belted 5.56.

I shot a lot of ammo.

i stand corrected. i got this info from a marine that says M193 is used during training... probably misinformation.

This is some good stuff. It's not American made but it's good none the less. The next closes stuff to LC or Federal is IMI but if your on a budget this stuff can't be beat.
