Default on this date in San Francisco: nothing happened

Several SFPD officers hanging out this evening on the corner of New Montgomery and Jessie. Some were later seen rushing through the halls of the Palace Hotel, for no apparent reason.

A limo on Stevenson awaiting that special customer. Note nearby police car, one of several parked in the neighborhood. Multiple bicycle, motor and undercover units also made appearances throughout the evening.

Ready to react, on the taxpayer's dime. Three motor units at New Montgomery and Market.

It must be nice to be able to make some phone calls and have so many police stand by just to protect LCAV from their own paranoia. Too bad ordinary citizens don't have that kind of pull.

SFPD off-duty officer bill rate is $87 per hour. Thousands of taxpayer dollars spent in the hopes of chilling peaceful protest. It's not just the 2nd Amendment under attack in the City by the Bay; it's the 1st Amendment as well.

Also, SFPD could use some counter-surveillance training. Just saying.

Dear LCAV,

Since we now know that you read this site, I’d like to take a moment to talk. Can we be friends? As your friend I feel like I should tell you that you’ve been wrong. You see the Second Amendment is about an individual’s fundamental right to keep and bear arms. This is a point of law. You’re an attorney right? You’ve been saying the opposite, and it’s just not true. You don’t have to take my word for it. You can read the Supreme Courts McDonald decision. Now that you know, I think I should also tell you that it is against the law to oppress a person in their free exercise of their rights that have been secured by the constitution. You could get a sentence of 10 years in prison for that! Please believe me when I say that it’s just not worth it. That’s TITLE 18, U.S.C., SECTION 241 since I’m sure you’d like to know. Please do the right thing and help to uphold the law of the land and stay legal!

While we’re sharing, I’d like to talk about the other night when you had your big to do in San Francisco. I know the thought of a bunch of attorneys and their peaceful, law abiding, civil rights supporting, friends can be a little intimidating to you. It’s not every day that you have to actually meet the people who disagree with your ideas of civilian disarmament and the suppression of their rights. I do have to say that it was hypocritical of you to call for armed people to protect you. Do the people you are trying to disarm have the same option? Of course we both know that they don’t. Please take a minute to think about this and then act accordingly.

Thanks for listening. I know you’ll do the right thing.

So, let me get this straight.

A group of anti-gun lawyers gets spooked because people here talk about a peaceful protest at their event. So what do they do?

Call other people with guns to come...

Using the police to intimidate civil rights protesters is a play straight out of the Jim Crow playbook.

I'm willing to bet the cops and LCAV folks were looking sideways at anyone who was well dressed or got up suddenly from their seat.

They probably tackled some poor fool who's crab bisque disagreed with him.

For the record, if Juliet and Robyn would like to come to the Calguns Foundation dinner, I'd love to have them. I'll promise them sanctuary and that they won't be molested in any way. They don't even have to take a picture with Alan.

You guys were absolutely brilliant!

I went to bed last night fully expecting to see pictures of Calgunners being led away in handcuffs after a pro-gun Code Pink sort of demo. And then I wake up to find that it was a spoof.

That is guerrilla war at its finest.

well, looks like SFPD just volunteered an equal amount of police protection for the next SAF meeting in San Francisco.

Wow.

I spent last night working on a little project trying to imagine what was going on 60 miles away. It was better than I imagined.

I bet a lot of them are still wondering if their soup had any special ingredients. For all I know, there could have been because these people are not the most popular.

I find it disturbing that the SFPD would mobilize to protect a group that is conspiring to deprive me of my fundamental civil rights.

We are in the right here but they get protection...

Now I want a CCW even more.

Well, they did have statements saying that there would be disruptive protests from a group of people that has shown an ability to mobilize a force far greater than theirs. Perhaps next time all the discussion should focus on things that do not rise to the level of disruption that would require police assistance. Then we can see if the PD is politically motivated.

For example, "code pink" disruptions are likely to need police assistance and if a credible threat of such is made police presence is not outrageous. We know one thing for sure, we are a credible force in CA gun politics.

Maybe somebody can inquire with SFPD as to what the police presence was for?
See what kind of info can be had.

Sadly, I expect if we see a similar or larger police presence at the GRPC, they will be looking at us.

The anti's influence probably does reach to San Mateo county but we probably won't see a direct backlash because that LCAV dinner was in San Francisco county.

Any way, if we are going to keep the LCAV guessing, next time we need to show up with big numbers. Hopefully it will be a city council or court house deal, more neutral ground.

So what's next?
