Default >>>>Introducing: GUN SAFE for iPhone! Your personal firearms inventory system!

Introducing GUN SAFE for iPhone! This app, designed by yours truly, is a firearms collector's dream! This virtually inventory application allows for the user to keep a compiled database of thier collection right on thier phone! The app allows users to log information pertaining to the particular firearm such as: Make, Model, Serial Number, Purchased From, Purchase Date, and photos of the firearm! This information not only affords the individual the peace of mind of having all of this info in one place, but could prove critical to the return of stolen firearms, or in case of a catastrophic incident such as a house fire!!

Sadly, I've had to retreive serial numbers for numerous individuals because of theft or other issues, and if you have an FFL that can (or will) do that, great, but what if the Dealer you purchased from is out of business? Or what if you don't remember where you got it? Or an heirloom? Without the serial number, there is no way for an LE Agency to input that info into the AFS system, and report it as stolen. Even if it is recovered, it stands a chance of not being traced back to you.. Avoid the heartbreak of never seeing your collection again and check out the demo video below to see how Gun Safe works!

The Gun Safe iPhone application A virtual inventory of firearms and accessories in an enthusiast's collection. All of the relevant information about your firearms and firearms accessories—in one place! Gun Safe enables the user to input specific firearm... information such as: Make Model Caliber Serial Number Purchase Price Purchase Date Information on where the firearm was purchased Notes Photos Any additional information the user chooses to input regarding the firearm or accessory can be added in the "Notes" field. It also allows for the user to either take a picture of the firearm or accessory to attach to the entry, or one can be uploaded from the photo library on the iPhone. All of this information is readily accessible on the user's iPhone, and password protected to restrict access by unauthorized users. Compilation of this information is not only the mark of a responsible gun owner, but immediate access to specific information could prove beneficial in the unfortunate event of a residential fire, burglary, or other catastrophic event.

Everything is Organized****

The Gun Safe application provides for ease of use by categorizing firearms by type, and allows the user to browse all firearms in the system by accessing the "Collection View".

Security and Peace of Mind****

Again, all of this information is readily accessible on the user's iPhone, and password protected to restrict access by unauthorized users. The information entered into the application can be either backed up to the Gun Safe central server for safekeeping, or the user has the option to email themselves a copy of the database so that they can control their own information on their laptop or desktop computer. In the event of a phone failure or loss, the information can be retrieved, and restored to the user's new phone. Once a gun owner has sold, or otherwise removed a firearm from their collection, the information can be archived, and additional information can be added pertaining to the disposition of the firearm. Archived items are removed from the "active" inventory, but can be accessed via the Archive screen for easy retrieval of information. If the user opts not to keep this information, it can be deleted from the Archive. Thousands of guns are lost or stolen in the US every year, and if recovered, unfortunately, many cannot be traced back to the original owner due to an inability for the firearms owner to provide specific information on the firearm to Law Enforcement. The Gun Safe iPhone application puts your mind at ease that in the unfortunate event that a firearm is lost or stolen, you have all of the information you need, and readily accessible. Available in the iTunes App Store SOON!!

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT GUN SAFE ON FACEBOOK!!

Currently, Gun Safe is only available for the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad but never fear, those of you with other platforms may be taken care of in the near future! Become a fan of Gun Safe on Facebook to keep current on any updates!

Yep.. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself!

After the iPhone release (fingers crossed that it does well) I'll be looking into the other platforms. Chances are good that the Droid and Crackberry will get some love.

A suggestion/request.

Maybe a round counter to help keep track of when parts like springs should be replaced or some customizable fields.

How are you sure that all this important information reguarding your personal firearm information wont be leaked out to anyone over the internet?

LOL I didn't even read the rest of your post before going to look for it in the app store. Then I figured out that it's "coming soon".

How about in addition to the password feature, the user is able to set a pre-set amount of bad attempts before the app erases all of it's info?

Maybe areas to keep a shooting log too....location shot, rounds fired, dare/time etc...

Looking forward to your app.

^^^ This

How secure is the server that will keep the information? Also, if said iPhone is lost, are there safeguards to keep someone from going in and browsing your inventory?
I would be interested in that program for my computer and make a copy on a CD, put in safe deposit box.

The "Notes" field of each entry was intentionally left completely customizable for this purpose. Notation of aftermarket items, as well as info on specific ammunition, or maintenance notes can be input into this section. The user can edit and update this area as needed.

The server has 256bit encryption, which to my understanding is the same encrytion that websites use to secure your financial information such as credit card info etc. This option is for individuals that choose to upload their backup info to the server. You still retain the option of emailing yourself the backup file, and maintaining the info on your own home computer, or burning it to a CD, and keeping it somewhere secure (other than your gun safe!)

This feature is not programmed into the app, but with the password requirement on the Application itself, in addition to the main iPhone password lock, it should be a pretty safe way to store data. If you choose to turn the feature on in your iPhone, if you input the wrong password 10 times, it will erase all of the data on the iPhone, including the info in Gun Safe. This should be a good "double" level of protection for those that utilize the password protection on the iPhone for all of the data stored on the phone.

Nothing is hack proof. If it sits on a server connected to the interwebs, it can be a target. Just like a real safe, if you have a determined thief, it's only a matter of time. The bigger the crypto, just means it will take longer to crack. If big retailers can be hacked for millions of credit cards, using top shelf security appliances and software, no one is really safe.

Great app. Now make a free one for Android.

Very true. Thats why we included to option of being able to manage the info yourself. I knew there would be like-minded people that would choose that option. Nothing beats the old pen and paper method, with hard copy photographs of the firearm, but in this day and age, many people do not have the time to do that. This easy pro-active approach to inventorying your collection makes things simple and easy.

Yep, from the sounds of it, its been taking Apple 6-7 days to get things posted to the App store. If all goes well, the Gun Safe release will be shortly after the release of the new iPhone 4, so if you are planning to get the new iPhone, you'll have your first sensible app!!

You don't state that the data is stored encrypted on the phone or in the transfer to a PC. Also, the "server encryption", are you relying on ssl? What about the data store (disk drive) itself?
