Default Two teens shot and killed in Jefferson National Forest, guns not allowed.

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/ne...152201/288734/

It seems that criminals have caught on to one of the newer disarmed victim zones, National Forests.

They were Virginia Tech students and once again it looks like carrying a weapon might have averted tragedy.

I thought it was Nat'l Parks you couldn't have a firearm in, not Forests?

Forests mirror the laws of the state so carry there in VA is OK. Need to be 21 in Va to get a CHP however....Open Carry a private party transfered pistol? Most teens don't put that much thought into it. Very sad.

The bill is about Parks (Forest carry is still as it was), which still requires unloaded and disasembled or unloaded and cased untill late February 2010 (BHO signed the bill but it has a delayed implementation of 2/10).

The problem is that without campus carry students are highly unlikely to be armed anywhere else they go.

Remember the Trailside Killer in 1980? David Carpenter used to hike in our parks and forests. He got off by shooting unarmed college students just like the two in the picture. Despite the mayhem and murder, Hell might freeze over before you'll be allowed to carry a gun in thr PRK...

Well there is also the issue with FUD, most college kids are unaware of the laws and afraid of getting into trouble carrying a firearm.

Sad story. But the title of this thread compels me to link to this again, to dispel the common confusion: Firearms in Forests and Parks.

Sad, sad, sad. I remember camping a lot in my college days, and it was carefree and fun. Carrying would've been one of the last things on my mind, but maybe this is the direction we're moving in. Have fun, but be safe out there, kids.

This one makes my heart drop. Looks like a young couple just looking to get away and spend some time with each other. I hope the scumbag piece of garbage responsible is brought to justice, hard.

All these firearms laws are just setting people up to die at the hands of violent criminals who don't obey the laws anyway. It drives me nuts. I hope those anti-gun nuts know they are doing this. But wait, they are ignorant to that fact.
