No...basic means it comes with a milspec flattop upper and plastic handguards. The "non-basic" ones have rails and/or a different type of upper (VIS or MUR i think).

The one with carbine gas is called the N4 light carbine. The N4 light recce is midlength gas.

Nice CYA after the N4 lower Blem debacle.

What happened to Noveske quality?

They sold Blem or second quality N4 lowers that were stamped "2" as first quality lowers for full price. Then sent out the following notice:

"Dear Customer,
It has come to our knowledge that the last batch of Noveske lower receivers we received were all slightly blemished. We were not aware of the blemishes and sold them in the normal course of business as we were charged full price for these lower. Had customers not called in, we would have never known as most blemishes were very minor. In any event, we would still like to set the record straight. We wouldn’t mislead our customers intentionally and want to make things right. If you are satisfied with your lower, we would still like to offer you a $20 store credit per lower receiver. And if you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can return the lower(s) for a complete refund (not including transfer fees). We apologize for this situation and if you have any questions, concerns or comments please do not hesitate to contact us."

Rainer seems to have gotten screwed too, but allot of people were out transfer fees , and some were out Transfer & Dros fees.

Think I got the last one (Well, I hope I got one, anyway.). Showed in stock when I ordered, now says "Notify Me."

Regardless, thanks for the heads up.

Thats SUCKS I just missed the deal.... I got one of the lower you speak of but can't find any marking on the lower. Where would the "2" be marked on the receiver? Thanks for your help on this

So are these uppers considered the best on the market for 16" midlengths or what? How do these compare to BCM's midlengths?

Before the rush they were the same price. G and R tactical had them on a regular basis. From what I here "hammer forged is the ****" but for me shooting xm193 standing a couple a times a month from a 10 round undetachable mag, I don't think I will notice any difference. Side by side, the N4 will be heavier but not as heavy as the Operator from Denny. As for comparing the three for weight, accuracy, and what to have better in a carbine class, that has been asked many times on different gun boards. At first I thought the funky gov. profile would be a concern but many smarter people with a lot more trigger time say no except if you add a suppressor then you might get a larger POI change.
