Arrow Went long range shooting-2nd time this year.... I think this is long range.

A buddy picked up his first rifle, a Bergara in 6.5 Creedmoor.

It is too easy to shoot... the rifle with brake makes recoil almost nil...

We were able to sneak out and do some shooting yesterday....

The wind varied a ton- from gusts down the canyon at 50 MPH
To a 45 degree at 30 MPH
to a 10 mph at 90 degree...

I fitted a JP Tank style brake to an 20" AR10 in 308 and got it zeroed....

The JP brake is loud buy allows one to spot their own shots so it does a great job in minimizing muzzle flip and recoil.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mENQ_-f18gs

the video is at 200 yards with my phone at max zoom... first 3 attempts, the wind blew my phone over....

I am not sure how to film at 1K??? I don't have a Go Pro and I cannot film through a rifle scope with my phone. I can film through binoculars.... but the longer eye relief of a scope makes that not possible....

We painted targets at 200, 300, 400, 600 and 1,000.

I added vertical and horizontal lines at 1K for better aiming.

Different marks at 400 & 600 to help with spotting... sometimes one person is looking at 400 while the other @ 600.... a simple slash or unique mark helps verify shooter and spotter are looking at the same distance/ targets.

I really need to stop spray painting the targets at 300 and 400 yards....Once you start getting hits at 200, well little time is spent and 300.

Once you hit once or twice at 400, you want to go to 600..... So there is no point in painting all the targets at 300 or 400... or just paint one target....

Once we both got hits at 600, its time to dial in the dope for 1,000.

I knew how much drop it took for my 28" bolt gun in 308 to start reaching 1000.... the bolt gun has a +20 MOA base.

The 20" AR10 needed a bit more adjustment from the scope, especially with a O MOA base.

At one point my buddy was spotting and the wind died.... I hit 3 in a row at 1K - WOO HOO

that is a first for me!

Long way of saying.... get out of your comfort zone... find your land (BLM) and stretch things out.....

i really enjoy long range. plus it is so much cheaper. a box of 20 rounds lasts a few hours.

i never shoot my 6.5 under 900 yards. at 1000 it is super easy. need to get past 1300 to work for hits. 1 mile takes effort.
