these are some of the baddest ones I have seen. I saw a demo on them recently, if I could afford it I would own it already.... if it wasnt half the price of a new upper.

Center of Mass is what I know most people, including myself, use:
http://www.center-of-mass.com/

It's about as compact as the size of your gun.

+1 for center-of-mass. Their basic car lockbox is quite compact, and you have to make sure the pistol and any mags you want will fit.

Here's what a Sig P6 looks like in the medium size. There's barely enough room for one mag outside of the gun.

+1 for http://www.gunvault.com/

I got the gun vault mini-deluxe about 6 months ago and love it.

The door was a little sticky when it arrived but a little WD-40 and nothing but 100% reliable use and I easily open it with my eyes closed.

Midway has them in keyed or combination lock. The sizes are 8-1/4" x 6" x 1-3/4" or 9-1/2" x 6-1/2" x 1-3/4"

I'm a big fan of the Gunvault - I have 2 of them - but they're not particularly compact, except compared to a traditional safe. If compact is critical in a metal box, I haven't seen anything smaller than the center-of-mass boxes yet.

Center of Mass FTW.

The 9.5 x 6.5 box easily holds my BHP with two loose mags. Not crazy about the smell of the foam that they use, but it's getting better with use.
