Default Riverside AREA locals......

SP is gone, WEGC requires membership, various indoor ranges are acceptable for handgun though policing brass for reloading can be a challenge, Nazi's reside at LC, road is out going to Bee, I'm convinced that Wren's is a mythical illusion, and fire restrictions throughout SoCal seem to put a damper on just about everything else.

Knitting. I suppose there's always knitting.

Raahauges and I think there is a place in Chino for outdoor range. RISR, but it sucks shooting pistol and the guy next to you is shooting rifle causing your target to move as well.

I have been looking for a place to shoot as well, but it seems all BLM is closed to us for the west side of the county and like you said its a long drive to the desert. I live off the 15 in the Temescal Valley so I may look towards San Diego to see if I can find a spot.

Chino -- are you talking about the Prado Olympic Shooting Park or the CIM Firing Range??

I'm not that far from you in Perris, let me know if you find anything out towards San Diego.

Yeah, I hear you. The desert is always an option, but for me it's never a simple turnaround trip. It always turns into an all day and sometimes a weekend camping event. It's just too far to justify a two or three hour quick range session. Cost of gas and time spent driving makes it only an occasional luxury for me.

RMR and RISR are a fifteen minute drive for me, but being indoor ranges, I feel silly lugging in rifles so I keep it handguns and PCC's only. Even then I just prefer outdoor ranges more.

By the time the road to Bee Canyon is open it'll be full fire season, so that's out too.

It's been almost two months since my last range session, may have to just hit the indoor again.

There's Pala Range, but I've never been there and have no info on it. I believe it's between Temecula and Falbrook.

Wow. I just checked the link you supplied.

That's Monday and Friday, not Mon through Fri. Since my wife likes to shoot also, that's $70 for entry.

And I used to laugh at my BIL when he'd talk about his greens fees for golfing.

Yeah it was Prado Olympic in Chino that I was thinking of. Never been there though and really no desire to go.

San Berdo National Forest has a few places that may still be open. When I was a kid we used to go up to Clarks Ranch and shoot out there.

Once my oldest graduates next week I can get back into things. I want to go for a drive into some of the back dirt roads from south Corona to San Diego and see what I can find. There is a lot of open land out there. I just moved out here from Coachella Valley area so I want to go exploring and see what I can find.

Wow, it is only on monday and friday for recreational shooting. So not only $35 to get in but also a day off of work.

Default High Desert Rod and Gun

If you are already in the desert, check out High Desert Rod and Gun http://www.hdrgc.org/ in Morongo Valley. Close, scenic and inexpensive.

And summer is creeping up also. I don't know about you guys, but my desert season runs from November through early June, which means this year is toast because my first three weekends in June are spoken for already.

1N09 might still be open for shooting.

I may hit one of the local indoor ranges in the next two weekends, I'll post up here if you want to meet up there.

Revolver, pistol, levers, and of course .22's also.

If you're deciding whether Raahagues or Prado, pay the little extra for Raahagues. I've never shot on a weekend, granted, but it's basically 2 hours (or more, if it's not busy) for a private bay. I haven't gone to Prado for yearsss but their rifle range is rimfire only & only 50m. I had to shoot my pistol farther than I would have liked too. Pala looks amazing but that's unfortunate about their very limited hours of operation.

If you are willing to consider the San Diego area, there is a private club before that that I'm surprised no one has mentioned. Rainbow Shooting Range. Yes, the rifle range is short at only 100 yards and it's uphill (that's why I have grandsons, they can place targets), but, it's outside and by the Border Patrol Checkpoint Station, just into SD County from Temecula.

I've been a member for 11yrs. One neat thing they have is their Associate Membership. For $30 each, you can have your spouse, child or grandchild under 18 be members. They can only go and shoot when you are present but it's a great deal. I have 4 of my grandchildren as members and they love learning and being able to continue to shoot with their grandpa. I enjoy the hell out of it too.

Here is the link:

I joined WEGC 10 years ago right when Inland Fish and Game was about to close. Some of the guys I know in Riverside who are WEGC members are also members of Corona Sportsman. I thought about joining that range, too, since it's slightly closer and I shoot more 22LR than ever, so the 100 yard range there is sufficient for some of my shooting.

I am also a member of Desert Marksmen in Palmdale.
