Default Contra Costa: Gun Violence Prevention Townhall

I got this in my email today from Congressman Mark DeSaulnier(and immediately RSVP’d) for this town hall:

Gun Violence Prevention Town Hall

(page 1)

(page 2)

Anybody else want to go and share your opinion with our congressman?

The systematic destruction of our 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms is a “real issue.”

If Saturday at 2:00 pm won’t work for you, when would be a better time?

Waste of time, the congressman has already made up his mind.

Time for each of to recruit more NRA members and get active on social media sites!

Does anyone doubt this man would hesitate to murder millions of Americans in their attempt to create a UTOPIA in whatever model the democrat party determines!

200 of you have to show up. Pols can be very pragmatic and when the votes swing the other way, they will switch. If they see no opposition, then they take that to mean gun control has major support in the county. This is how you will get concealed carry in the county.

Everyone knows that. It shouldn't stop any concerned citizen from "getting in their face" like Maxine Water's suggested. At least the congresscritter will realize he does not have 100% support.

I thinks its funny how people complain about the 2nd amendment being violated on this forum all the time and b*tch about nothing being done to stop it. But, when any opportunity such as this town hall presents itself.. you all say you have better things to do and its a stupid idea to even think to voice your opinion on the subject in a legitimate political environment where actual changes can happen. How do you think multiple towns in LA county stopped the leftist from building huge homeless housing projects smack in the middle of their neighborhoods. They showed up to townhall meetings just like this one with enough pissed off people and made it clear that it was not ok and would initiate a recall if the politicians went thru with it. Now i know this is an entirely different subject matter being discussed at this townhall, but this is a proper venue to be heard for 2nd amendment supporters and it is a starting point.

I would think closing the borders would be step one to reducing gun violence in this country.

Well said. So what if this commie wont change his mind. There needs to be some show of opposition to let them know it's an easy one way street to infringing on our rights.

You do notice it is being held in a gun free school zone... in Martinez. I wouldn't step foot in Martinez without my EDC.

I went last year to the meeting this clown had in Benicia. It turned out to be a libtard love fest but I still managed to have an opinion voiced. I have a loud voice though so he & his constituents couldn't talk over me.

I will be going to this one also. Wearing Red Shirt "Gun Ownership is a RIGHT not a Privilege".

If we are the enemy, then we have the responsibility to show up on the battlefield, rather than watch as our brethren are singled out and carted off to prison.

Possibly a dumb question, but would attendance to this event be limited to his constituents?

Just another thought; most people I run into don't seem to be as far blown leftist as their representatives are, so while maybe he won't change his mind, we may be able to change some minds of those who vote for people like this.

Most people are moderates. The hard for or hard against guns are more rare than you'de think. You would be amazed at how presenting arguments while being friendly and personable to a moderate can sway an opinion.

This is very close to my home. I think I'll show up wearing my T-shirt that has a pic of an AR and says "money can't buy happiness, but it can buy guns. That's pretty much the same thing"

Just tell him you will support any gun control measure that doesnt meet the definition of "infringe". Then read the definition of infringe.

These town halls are nothing more than circle jerk sessions where politicians only hear what they want to hear.

Just like to point out that I hate the term "gun violence" because there is no such thing. Is there knife violence, car violence, fist violence, bat violence, foot violence, etc.???? Or is there just violence?

The "I have better things to do" fudds are the reason we don't have a second amendment here anymore

SHOW UP and show up in droves, show this politician how you feel. And don't show up looking like you just crawled out of an 1848 gold rush picture, put on a suit, be articulate and tell them the 2A protects you, your home and your family, and you disagree with the sensational push for more and more draconian gun control. Quote facts and act like a normal, average person (don't start quoting the bible or waxing poetic about our founding fathers desires) and that will really put the spark of fear into the politicians. When business people, doctors, lawyers, etc (people with money to spend on an opposing candidate and have influence in their community) start showing up defending the 2A they'll know something is wrong with their stance.

The idea here isn't changing his mind, its letting him oniw these arent "safe" events to hold. There will be backlash.

It says they will offer translation services, someone bi-lingual should go and make them translate a pro 2a conversation.

Get in their face. If you get thrown out, good. Maybe it will make the local news an start a "conversation"?

At the least they will know the people won't roll over for them.

I went to the RSVP site & they accepted me. I am sure walking in with a Blood Red T-shirt promoting my Gun Rights will get me stopped at the door, which is why I'll make sure not to remove my jacket until inside & the libtard show gets started.

I would go in with a more civil and moderate approach. Being aggressive and confrontational will just fuel their argument that gun ownership and gun owners are bad.

Or it might signal to them that California gun owners are angry and we're not going to sit still and take it any longer.

You should be able to make an exception in order to engage in the political process. It is YOUR failure to show up, along with 500,000 of your CA friends, that has caused the gun situation in California in the first place. They do not fear you politically and therefore you have no power. Show up and that will change.

As long as California is a state in this Union, it doesn't matter. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It supersedes state constitutions, and it does include gun rights.

BullSh*t.

Liberty is where you stand.

If you let people push you around, and tell you what you can and cant do.... That is on you. This is not about a discussion, a debate, or compromise.

They picked the fight, made you and me an enemy, and sitting on the sidelines is not going placate them or get our liberty back. We have an obligation to stand in their way, and take what is ours - by force if necessary. If gun owners scare the sh*t out of them, good. But they should be frightened of our resolve and our willingness to engage them on the battlefield of their choosing. They should also be afraid of losing. (And that cant happen if we do not stand our ground.)

That argument will never change, we are evil child killers in training. Either push back or they will continue to roll over us. The time to be nice and civilized is over, we learned that from the left.

VERY well said.

But you're failing to understand just how VERY, VERY BUSY gun owners are in California.

It's been the same over the last 25 or so years.
