Default GSSF and CGSSA Presents: GLOCK West Coast Challenge IV - Spring (03/30 & 03/31)

On Saturday, March 30, 2019 and Sunday, March 31, 2019 we'll be hosting the The GLOCK West Coast Challenge IV - Spring at Burro Canyon Shooting Park (22100 E East Fork Rd, Azusa, CA 91702) in Azusa, CA).

As always, we'll be looking for a platoon of high speed (low drag) volunteers to help us set up and run the event. We'll be running shifts for 1/2 Day Friday (setup), All Day Saturday, and All Day Sunday. As a volunteer, you will earn two entries for each day worked into the special drawing of a free GLOCK Pistol. This drawing is just for the volunteers and the winner will be drawn at the end of the day on Sunday (you do not have to be present to win). In addition, each volunteer will receive a trendy GLOCK Range Officer Polo Shirt, a GLOCK Range Officer Hat, and complimentary gift of their choice from GLOCK for each day worked. If you’re a volunteer who has volunteered both days (Saturday & Sunday), but is also competing, we will do our best to allow you time off to shoot your match (or matches). If you’re volunteering on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday you’ll have the opportunity to shoot your matches on Friday afternoon after set up if you would like.

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION

RANGE OFFICER GUIDE

If you're not familiar with GSSF matches here's a nice 17 minute video that takes you stage by stage and division by division.

I hope to see you there...

PM720's G30 gets around quite a bit. I imagine her bore has opened up to .455 or .456 by now...

Or maybe even .455?

Bring some factory ammo and you are welcome to play. The only requirement is you have to shoot Major Sub!

I've put ~1,500 rounds through that G30 and won the new member's raffle with it at the first GSSF match I shot with it. I've also watched Scott pour water over it after Chad and I ran the plates back to back in numerous divisions with it, before we handed it back to him. That wasn't the worse thing done to the old girl, but she still runs fine.

She posted a 54.02 in Major Sub at Littlefield shooting the plates in the dark. Has a few rounds through her but still runs like a champ!

Yea, you just don't know.

I found that out when I was banking everything on "Guardian", and putting all my worries into it. Then only to BLOW IT in Guardian, and any of my other three divisions (with the same gun mind you) would have done it.

Conclusion, just shoot. Don't worry about the division. Only worry on the shot I am about to make right then and there.

I'd like to volunteer for all three days, although I've never done this before nor have I ever competed. I do wish to just jump right in with competing and volunteering at GSSF.

I will be signing up for GSSF in the coming days, I do wish to know if I can volunteer even though I have no prior experience at such events?

GSSF is a great way to get started in competition shooting. Since there is no movement, draws or reloads on the clock you can focus on shooting and safe gun handling while under the "pressure" of time. Once you are more comfortable shooting the gun yo can practice things like draws, reloads and movement at the other styles like IDPA & USPSA. Come on out and have some fun!

I got ya. I’m pretty comfortable shooting as I’ve been shooting for nearly 10 years. Just never any organized matches. I think I’ll be checking it out for sure.

Can I ask what the time commitment is for Friday and Saturday to volunteer?

Need to ask the wife since she will have to watch the four little ones alone.

And I am not a member of the GSSF but wanted to join this year so this is timely.

Friday is a half day (probably like 730 - 12), and Saturday is a full day (probably 730 - 4/5).

When should the volunteers expect an email or contact before the event about details and such?

Yes, emails typically start circulating a couple of week before the event.

Hakoomay, bring sunscreen. And bring more sunscreen. Eye/ear pro, the bigger the hat the better, lots of water (even though Jacob always makes sure we have plenty of hydration options in ice chests), gloves and good walking/hiking shoes (something with moderate-to-high ankle support). Most importantly, Chad always says he wants "high-speed, low-drag volunteers", which in this situation means don't be lazy and have a positive, helpful attitude.

Safety is the #1 priority. See anything unsafe, make it known.

Familiarize yourself with the rules and how each course of fire works for all the stages before the match. Since shooters will look to you for answers because you are wearing the "Range Officer" shirt, it will help to know the answers. Always ask another volunteer/RO if you have any questions. Some of the friendlier experienced shooters will also offer you information and help in case you are confused or look lost. Take a back seat and watch and learn for the first day (if you are doing 2+ days) or first hours until you get into the swing of how things work.

Can't volunteer on Saturday or Sunday, but could I volunteer on Friday and still shoot? Would be willing to volunteer even if I can't shoot but would be a nice benefit. I have never done a GSSF event.

Thanks.

Doesn't anyone get tired of the same stages match after match?

Nope! I guess you could say the same about Steel Challenge and it seems to remain popular. I think there are some limitations on what can be setup due to bay sizes too, especially on 5 to Glock.

Hey guys, there's a Calguns shoot at the Firing Line in Burbank on Friday, 03/15/19 from 7PM-10PM. $11 to shoot, free if you are a member. (Link to the thread.)

There's also another calguns shoot at the Rancho Magnum Range in Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday, 03/23/19. 8-10 PM, range is closed just for us, $14. (Link to thread.)

I will be bringing some of the cardboard NRA D1 targets (the actual ones used by GSSF) to both ranges for practice before the match. If anyone wants to join, let me know and I can bring some extra targets.
