Default Is it ok to clean guns with cotton pads?

I have a bunch of cotton pads lying around and I was just wondering if it's ok to clean the barrel of a gun using that instead of regular gun cleaning patches. These are the kind of cotton pads I'm talking about:

When you cut those to run it through the barrel it is going to leave fiber's and fuzz behind.

I don't think I have bought gun patches in about 25 years, old t-shirts work just fine.

^^ yes. You get to cut them to size, and there's a seemngly endless supply.

I’d say give the pads a try and see if they work. They certainly won’t hurt your barrel.

Yes but those flat cotton balls will disintegrate in the barrel.

Go for it. I'd suggest the last pass thru should be a well oiled patch to get any fibers that you may have left in the barrel.
