Yet another car safe thread
Waiting on my Livescan to be clear. I completed all other aspects required for the CCW, so basically just final payment and pickup of the permit is what I'm expecting.
I have 3 vehicles... I take it back... I regularly drive 1 vehicle which is also our road trip car- a 2014 VW Passat TDI SEL. The other 2 are a 16' BMW i3 (fiancee's) and convertible (seldom/if ever driven). Those two will get a trunk safe, either permanent or a cabled one. For the 14' Passat, I was thinking bolting in a single-handgun safe behind the driver's seat and I'm not sure if i can describe the best, but if you were a passenger behind the driver, the safe would be hitting your calves. Is this good? eh? My thought process is the only time there is more than just my fiancee in the car, its her mom is in the back seat behind the passenger seat so it shouldn't be in the way of anyone. Is this a good spot? I could mount in the trunk, but how do the rest of you manage transferring from your person to the trunk? unholster in the car, and use a shirt or something to cover it while outside transferring to the trunk? Is there a thread that describes this scenario/method- I am truly interested in knowing how to navigate this in the event i have to leave the gun behind.

All cars are different and I don't have any experience with the Passat. Here are just some general comments...
The ideal location IMO is the console. See if "Consolevault" has something that would work for your Passat. There are some other console vault companies too, like "Lockerdown," so see if Google yields any other options. If not the console, easy accessibility from the driver seat is ideal. Putting it behind the driver's seat likely means you have to get out and either get into the back seat or access the box by standing in the open rear doorway of the vehicle...which exposes you more to the sheep. A box with a tether on it might allow you to pull the box into the driver area, do what you need to do, then shove it back under a rear seat. A tether might also give you more flexibility with rear passengers. A tethered box could easily be moved to other vehicles so you don't have to buy multiple boxes. A lockbox that is big enough for a holstered weapon is also ideal...assuming it will fit somewhere. But this allows you to simply slip your holster on and off without having to remove the gun from the holster...which is bit more dangerous. That's all I got.
