Question Any legal means for LEO to get rid of standard capacity magazines?

I'm a peace officer and I have a 9mm Sig P224 I am considering selling. With it I have four standard capacity (or as the CA Penal Code calls them: "Large Capacity") magazines.

Is there ANY legal means or circumstances under which I can sell them?

Can I sell them directly to another LEO via a private party transfer (since he/she would also be exempt from the capacity restriction)?

Can I physically take them out of state and fly to another state to sell them, as 32310(d)(1) PC seems to permit?

Or it my only option to surrender them to my local gun dealer and take whatever they offer for them?

If I need to buy a new 10-round magazine to sell with the gun, I was hoping to at least recoup some of the cost of the standard magazines rather than just surrendering them. And since the P224 has been out of production for a while, I'm not very confident my local gun dealer will have a 10-round P224 magazine lying around that I can trade them in for.

You can sell them to another LEO or out of state. Or block them before sale if you sell to a non-exempt person.

Don’t trade them in unless it’s a last resort.

^^^CORRECT^^^

side note ........... You, even as a LEO, can't technically, or legally "offer them for sale". Even to "other LEO" only.

So you can ask a question. As you have done. And other LEO can contact you about a purchase of your LCM.

Stupid way law was written, But it is CrapoFornica.

But this has never to my knowledge, never been enforced.

Your best bet would be to block them. Used mags unless ultra rare don't retain much of their original value. They'd probably add more value even blocked to the sale of the gun.

Keep them or give the parts of the magazines to the buyer of the gun. Don't ever surrender anything.

Many people acquired standard capacity mags during freedom week, even before they purchased the gun themselves, knowing that they were going to eventually buy the gun they wanted at a future date.

Yup. I also bought before we were shut down the first time.

Unfortunately some of us didn’t mark what they were for and I am still trying to figure out what some of them I bought in bulk go to.

Like the ones which are either completely unlabeled (no make or caliber) and some which just say Italy, Germany, Mecgar or promag.
