Default Sks w/20rd fixed mag?

What about an old fixed 20 round chinese star magazine in sks platforms? Good to go with recent turn of events?

Does that matter if it's featureless?

No. SKS is a special case in that it suffers from less flexibility concerning configurations.

Fixed mag is limited 10 rounds from the get go, that includes the SKS.

Featureless allows for detachable hi-cap EXCEPT for the SKS because ANY SKS with a detachable mag violates Roberti-Roos and is an AW.

Poor SKS. Featureless from birth, but screwed over by Roberti Roos.

Still in effect...

SKS with detachable magazines is an assault weapon. [PC 30510(a)(11)]
^This covers all rifles marked "SKS" and does not have a fixed magazine.

SKS that uses detachable AK magazines is an assault weapon. [PC 30710]
^This make/model banned "SKS Sporter" rifles that used AK magazines.
~(make) Made in China and Norinco. (model) SKS-D, SKS-M, and MC-5D.

Semi-auto centerfire rifle with fixed magazine capacity of greater than 10 rounds is an assault weapon. [PC 30515(a)(2)]
^This covers SKS with fixed 11+ round magazine (Chinese 20 round, American 75 round, etc).

I think my SKS is marked as such by the importer, but theoretically what if there was an SKS rifle out there that just lacked the word SKS anywhere on it? Would that be legal to convert to detachable?

I certainly wouldn’t want to be the test case. Sadly, I’d vote no.

Some people push this line, by using a Zasatava Model 59 or Model 59/66 as the host platform to make it a featureless detachable magazine semi-auto centerfire rifle.
Even though they are commonly refered to as a "Yugoslavian SKS", they are not marked "SKS" by the manfuacturer or by the importers.

Word of caution... even though some people do it, it is recommended that you do not proceed down this path until after you discuss the legal implications with your lawyer.
