Default SKS available via Sportsmans Warehouse

https://mail.yahoo.com/d/folders/4/messages/72882

I don't normally look at SKS prices - but got this today and thought that $350 via their loyalty program was a good price for a used Chinese Type 56 SKS.

Thought I'd mention it here. Wish I bought more when they were $79 quite a while back.

When they were 80 bucks, that was about 200 bucks in today's dollar.

Classic has these for 300 frequently, but then you have to deal with bringing into state so it's probably not cheaper.

I got that email too - Just the idea that you can have one sent to the store without the hassle of FFL transfer fees or extra communication is really cool. Anything to get more of these warhorses into CA is a good thing. You’ve got a reliable, historical battle rifle for a good price point that shoots a real rifle caliber.

Yes, I remember them being $99 too, but I was also earning $4.25/hour and gas was $1/gal.

Sorry about using that email link.

If you are a member of their loyalty club, you get 50 bucks off that 400 price.

Thought it was a good deal since I see people trying to sell them here for 600.

It's a pretty decent deal. I wouldn't be upset paying that, if I hadn't gotten in on the Classic deal a little while back.

If you were looking at the HS507C its being discontinued with the replacement being announced at SHOT so Id get the SKS now and whatever the replacement for the 507C is when it comes out.

OK, makes sense, thanks. The 507C-GR has been bouncing from $329 to $249 on Amazon, the one I'm tracking. I did just buy it at $249.

Yesterday though, I was at Solar Tactical in Livermore and noticed an SKS on a consignment rack, not sure if it's just a rack they throw used rifles on and not a consignment rack. With the Sportsman deal, wonder what they'd take for it?

Started the paperwork on that SKS at Sportsmans in Milpitas.

SKS looks ok, darker stock than normal, guessing user put motor oil on it to darken the color.

Sportsmans requires that you know your safe's model number to avoid getting a lock. They would not accept the dimensions of the safe. I do not recall a model number on my "The Safe Company" Goshen or Visalia marked safes. Looking at both the outside and inside, I see no model number.

The new models that The Safe Company has on its website are not the same type.

What do you guys do in these circumstances? I bought a lock, but would like to know if anyone knows the model numbers of old "The Safe Company" 36x24x72 safes. (1990ish and 2004ish)

Thanks.

I also sent an email to them asking beforehand, but will write down this model number for future reference.

*The Milpitas store supposedly has 18 SKS's that people ordered off their website and are waiting for the paperwork to be done.

Write your safe model name and number on your CCW, or firearms safety card or whatever.

That way you always have it with you when you're buying a new gun.

And mine is a "250P" also.

Just remember that with any surplus military rifle, condition is everything. Be sure and check the bore condition, check the crown condition (avoid counter bored crowns), look for good overall condition, finish wear, surface pitting, and matching numbers on all parts.

It's because Sportsmans is national and knows national law while Turners still mistakenly believes a Chinese SKS with spiker is a CA assault rifle. Pure FUD.

I'm one of those eighteen! I filled out my paperwork ysterday, but I was told today I need to do it again because the salesperson mistakenly wrote on the forms that the rifle was new rather than used. :-( Double check that if you're buying one of these from the Milpitas store!

Gas was only .80 a gallon too, right? I got a Romanian SKS for $140 shipped and it sat on my front doorstep all day back when gas was $2.25.

That's because it was a made up model number hence the

205P 250P or 2436ST... It doesn't matter. All they want is a number on the form.

Jeez.......I am anal or just purely dense. Didn't even notice the wink emoji.

That was the ninth weapon but first non-pistol I bought at that place and for some reason I just felt like they were giving me crap for trying to purchase a weapon. I keep forgetting that they are covering their arses from the DOJ.

They don't ask safe info on pistols - as I recall.

They do not carry the used SKS's in the store.

You order from their website/storage site - the not on sale price is $399.99. It still seems available.

The loyalty club discount of 50 bucks was offered for a limited time on January 2nd - didn't notice what time frame it was open for and I deleted the email, sorry. Guess you could ask them on their 1-800-286-3076 support line.

Went today to pick up the SKS and was told that they had called me earlier to say I needed to redo the paperwork as they used the "New" and not "Used" forms.

DChartier had warned me in post 26 and I still didn't check as the staff and I talked about it being a used gun. It never dawned on me that none of the paperwork I did said "used" on it. (Actually, don't recall it saying "new" either, guess I am not observant.)

My hatred of my cellphone also contributed to this fiasco. Supposedly I was one of several who didn't respond to the request to restart the paperwork.

So I need to wait another ten days. Part of the penalty I pay for being a dumb****.
