Is it also listed as a semi auto?

I listed it as a similar-auto in the form. The letter that came back just states serial#, make, model 22GEN4, and caliber .40. In their email to me they said the change has been recorded. No push back on the sumo-auto. So for now all I can do is assume it went through fine. We will see in the next few weeks I guess.

I had my interview Aug 19th, 2019. I have been waiting patiently since. I have a pristine record and have been with the same employer for 7 years. I just don’t understand why I’m not getting any communication either way. This is very frustrating.

My first thought would be your employer has not returned the employment verification paperwork.
Email the CCW division.

Hey guys,

I looked through the county website and couldn’t find an answer to my question. I can email them but I thought if you all knew the answer then I wouldn’t have to bother them.

I am PROBABLY moving out of state in March. My ccw expires in April. We are to surrender our permit when we move out of the county. So my two-part question is: since it’s a matter of about 20 days, would it be acceptable to simply allow my permit to expire or should I return it? If I should return it, is by mail acceptable or do I have to submit it in person?

Thanks

There was another member in the same predicament. They told him to send it in when it expired.

Though you still have to let them know that you're moving.

Hey Guys. I have my Range Day tomorrow. When I got the call I was on my motorcycle and had to pull off the freeway. SO needless to say I could not write anything down. I think he said it starts at 8am but get there early. Is this correct?
Any recommendations on what time to get there?
thanks

10-28-19 Application submitted
11-6-19 Interview
12-10-19 Call Received
1-11-20 Range date

Anyone have an idea how long the “serial number verification and mailing of permit” is?

Now just waiting for permit to arrive via mail. Overall, I have to say the process is extremely quick for as many applicants they have to work with. Great group of Deputies/Detectives from the SBSD working this operation.

Unless it's changed, for your initial permit, they call you and tell you when you can come in to pick up your permit.
^Tpyically within 10 days of your range date.

They then have you confirm everything printed on the permit is correct.
^Double check the address and your handgun(s) info.

When you renew, they mail the permit to you.

Might have changed just a bit. In the class, they had us fill out an envelope addressed to ourselves so they can mail it out. I recall they specifically stated to make sure it’s correct or else we will never see our permit. Hopefully that 10 day rule applies.

Thanks for the reply!

09/12/19 Application submitted
10/30/19 Interview
12/04/19 Missed call from SBCSD
01/13/20 Received second call, background check passed, range day scheduled.

For anyone currently waiting for “the call”, make sure you answer it when it comes. If not, you’re in for a good month or so wait for them to get back to you.

Appears it has changed.

When I was undergoing my initial application process, there was no self addressed envelope during the range day. They just said, you will receive a call to schedule when to pick up the permit in person.

Just fyi, on the day you show up for your range day, please be sure the U.S. Postal money order is already made out to SBSD. A lot of candidates did not do this and it caused a bottle neck at the check in table.

Can anyone tell me what to expect in the shoot portion of the Range Day???

I simply want to make sure I am prepared...

Oh, and if it matters this will be for my initial permit... Thank you...

Five shots, reload, five shots, with each gun. Good trigger finger discipline and keep the gun downrange. If you've shot the gun a least once before it shouldn't be an issue.

Just like being with my wife, do what your told.

Very nice. We'll now be able to let people know that you can change calibre and action via their website now. This is going to be so much better than doing a pawn return.

Hey guys, new here so not sure if I’m posting in the right place, please direct me if needed.

I wanted to share my experience in applying for and going thru the process of getting my CCW here in San Bernardino county.

On August 20th of 2019 I filled out the online application and upon completion I had trouble with the website and scheduling as I have seen some other folks have. The next day I emailed the dept to inquire what dates were available for the interview and to make sure I got mine scheduled.
I was given an interview date of Sept 16th 2019.

I completed all necessary paperwork and everything listed on the county’s ccw information site and when the date came I went to the interview. By the way my good cause statement went like this
“To protect/defend myself and/or my family in the unfortunate circumstance where there is immediate danger/threat of great bodily harm or death by a person with malicious intent”

The interview went pretty smoothly, the detective who interviewed me was professional and personable.

I haven’t seen anyone else in the county talk about this particular matter though so that’s why I wanted to share my experience - Question 9 on the interview questionnaire in which it asks you if you have ever been under the care of a psychologist or psychiatrist.
According to Webster’s dictionary the idiom definition, “under/in the care of” is defined as “Being looked after by”. So with this in mind, I had selected “No” but offered to disclose that although I was not “under the care of”, by definition, I had visited a psychologist at my own desire in the past for issues that I needed help to understand in which I would like to speak to an individual who was educated on such matters and that it may even be possible for me to visit one in the future if I ever felt like I needed to understand something else.

I have never been committed to any institutions or been forced to see any professionals for any mental defects just to clarify.

At the time of application, I could not remember the psychologist who I went to see’s title. Later, I remembered it was a LMFT. Licensed marriage and family therapist, who are psychologists with specific education and knowledge in dealing with marital and relationship issues. I had a Girlfriend a few years back. She was nuts. I went to see if I could help in the situation as I thought maybe there was something I may be able to do but I was told it was pretty much like trying to put out a Forrest fire with a squirt gun due to the severity of her issues. I think I went 2x and was done. Gave the boot to the crazy Ex and life is grand. 🤣

So back to interview - the detective asked me about this and I explained to him as best I could and then he asked me “have you ever seen a psychologist or psychiatrist”? I said “yes” and he asked “were you prescribed any medication” I said “psychologists do not prescribe medications, that is a psychiatrist. No”. He then directed me to select the “yes” box on question.

The rest of the interview went fine. I went around the window to the picture taking backdrop, took my picture, took my finger prints and did everything that was asked then off I went to lunch.

Fast forward to October 16th 2019 - I get a call from the sheriffs dept and of course I’m eager to get my range day set on this call. However, the news I received was that I had to complete a psychiatric evaluation at the depts designated affiliate called “The Counseling Team Intl”. It’s a little office located at -
Centennial Professional Park
1881 Business Center Dr., Suites 11 & 12
San Bernardino, CA 92408.
This wasn’t the news I was hoping for but one little snag wasn’t going to derail me. I called the office and scheduled an evaluation for the first available opening which was November 5th. The cost for the evaluation was $150

November 5th 2019
I arrived at the office for my evaluation early as I do with any important meeting. I am glad for this as the building is multi-story, takes a bit of navigating to find the correct suites and all the restrooms are locked so be sure to go before you get there unless you can wait for the key by asking the receptionist once the office is open. You must check in and complete your written exam in one suite then go to another suite for the face to face interview. The suite for the sign in and written exam is on the north side of the building and the suite for the face to face interview is around the corner on the east side of the building. I greeted the receptionist, provided my identification, made payment and signed in, then got that key for the restroom. 🤣

Once I returned, I waited about 5 minutes until I was told to come on back. I was placed in a room by myself and given the written examination booklet, Scranton sheet and two pencils. I was told to come out when I was done and that was all the instruction that was given.

The test that was given to me was the Minnesota multiphasic personality Inventory 2 - Restructured Form, or in short MMPI 2 RF, 2008 version and has 338 true/false questions.

This publication has 51 total scales consisting of -
9 validity scales
3 higher order scales
9 RC scales

A total of 23 problem specific scales -

5 somatic/cognitive scales
9 internalizing scales
4 externalizing scales
5 interpersonal scales

2 interest scales
5 PSY-5 scales

The validity scales are used to measure if the test taker is lying or honest, over or under reporting, comprehending what they are answering and even if they are just randomly answering the questions.
Aside from the validity scales the rest of the scales cover various aspects of clinical functioning and personality. I’m not going to go on in super great detail, you can research as I did if you’d like to know specifics.

Although I remember the questions, I cannot post the specific questions as I’d probably be sued for copyright infringement so I’ll give some examples.

1. I like automotive magazines
2. I eat a lot
3. I’d probably like the occupation of a data entry person
4. Sometimes I really want to runaway
5. My everyday life is super interesting
6. Sometimes I feel like telling someone off

Those are questions near the beginning but as you progress the questions become a bit more dark.

300. I think of death, dying and morbid stuff
301. I hear voices in my head
302. I see stuff that no one else can
303. I like killing puppies and kittens
304. I’m angry all the time
305. All I think about is sex
306. I get drunk and or high a lot

So there’s somewhat of an idea of what the test had. There were some questions that I think everyone may answer differently and that is what I think is good about the face to face interview is that you can somewhat explain some of your answer a bit in which a yes/no answer might not do complete justice or provide explanation.

So after the written test, I had to wait about an hour to Dr. Wellbrook at the second suite. Once she calls me back, she introduces herself, is polite and seems like any other decent human and nothing off-putting about her. So we progress with the interview and she says she has the results from the test in which she cannot give any great detail but that my test indicated I was honest. We discussed a couple specific questions that she asked about that I had figured she might already, I explained them, she understood and said ok.

She conducted a series of questions in the interview about my personal life. Some of these were quite intrusive but I answered them honestly and explained any details if needed.

Some of the questions she asked me were about my family life - do I get along with family? My relationships - did I have anyone special in my life? Sexual behavior - have I ever had sex in public or how often do I watch porn? She asked how many guns I owned, if I had ever been in trouble with the law, do I drive my car fast or like the thrill of being chased by the police kind of thing. It was a pretty good set of questions she had. But just short of an hour we were done. I asked her a few question (I thought it was only fair at this point &#129315 and she informed me that she would send the results into the dept and it would take a few days. After that I headed home. I felt indifferent about the process. I mean I wouldn’t want to sit there every day and answer questions, but if I had to do it again eh,it’s whatever.

Since November 5th I have been waiting patiently for any type of correspondence from the sheriffs dept regarding my CCW permit and finally on January 23rd, 2020 I received the call to schedule my range day for March 21st.

I’m not too worried about hitting paper and displaying firearm handling and safety skills so at this time I’m calculating I’ll have my CCW card by April sometime.

It was a bit of a process, and it cost me a bit more with the additional 150$ but I feel it was worth it entirely. I appreciate the SBCSD for making sure folks that shouldn’t be having carry permits are screened and just as I conveyed to the Dr. Wellbrook I want this permit to make sure I am able to have a line of defense, legally if a situation ever comes my way. I don’t want to be a sitting duck at the mall or local Walmart, to protect myself and my family/loved ones. And yes, to exercise my 2nd amendment rights to keep and bear arms. For that, the money spent so far and the money I’ll have to spend in the future to have my CCW is worth it. I encourage everyone to at least try and get one and don’t let any little snags like having to do the psych test prevent you from trying.....unless you know you’re nuts.
Cheers!
