My father's combat knife. He was in the first wave ashore at Green Beach at the south of France about a month after D-Day. He decorated the handle with red insulated wire and did the same around the periphery of the sheath and held it in place with wrapped copper wire. I guess when you're sitting around waiting to go into battle, you do something to keep yourself occupied and not thinking of what's coming.

I got this one from CMP. Skyhawk, you helped me identify it to be a 1918 pre-A1 Colt frame with a Rem Rand slide. Here it is next to my 1918 DWM P08.

Thank you brother. It’s a refinish for sure. The pony is barely visible anymore, but it’s all matching numbers, and the property markings are very clear. The action is nice and smooth and it has a wonderful trigger. I found it at Cabellas gun library and got it for a really good price. I shoot it regularly.

They pretty much are where you find them and yes, they tend to be rather pricey.

My great grandfathers 1942 Remington Rand 1911.

He was a fighter pilot in ww1 and ww2. And an aviation advisor for the pentagon during Korea.





I also have an 1842 H Ashton black powder pistol issued in the civil war. It is still operational.

OK here is another. This is a 1943 Rem Rand with a post-war (1950s) Colt military contract "hard" slide. This one came to me from the CMP, in the exact configuration and condition it was in when discharged by the US Army. This discharge was authorized by the 'National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018’ Section 1091.

It has been arsenal rebuilt at Springfield Armory (the real one) and most recently at Anniston Army Depot (in May 1976). It appears unissued and unfired (except for test fire) since being rebuilt and refinished in 1976.

PROMOTION OF RIFLE PRACTICE AND FIREARMS SAFETY.

(a) Transfer Requirement.--
(1) In general.--During fiscal years 2018 and 2019, the
Secretary of the Army shall transfer surplus caliber .45 M1911/
M1911A1 pistols described in paragraph (2) to the Corporation
for the Promotion of Rifle Practice and Firearms Safety in
accordance with this section.
(2) Pistols described.--The pistols described in this
paragraph are surplus caliber .45 M1911/M1911A1 pistols and
spare parts and related accessories for those pistols that, on
the date of the enactment of this section, are under the control
of the Secretary and are surplus to the requirements of the
Department of the Army.
(3) Number to be transferred.--
(A) Total number.--For any fiscal year, a total of
not more than 10,000 surplus caliber .45 M1911/M1911A1
pistols may be transferred to the Corporation under this
section and section 40728 of title 36, United States
Code.
(B) Fiscal year 2018.--For fiscal year 2018, not
less than 8,000 surplus caliber .45 M1911/M1911A1
pistols shall be transferred to the Corporation pursuant
to this section.
(4) Terms of transfers.--Subsections (b), (c), (d), (e), and
(g) of section 40728 of title 36, United States Code, shall
apply to a transfer under this section in the same manner such
subsections apply to transfers of firearms under such section
40728.
(5) Other requirements.--Except as provided in subsection
(b)(1), subchapter II of chapter 407 of title 36, United States
Code, shall apply with respect to firearms transferred under
this section.
