Tried to go shoot at San Leandro this past Saturday; didn’t even make it through the gate.

Rolled up around 10:20 and the parking lot was packed, cars were parking on the street, and there was a sizeable line just to pay and wait. Guessing the TargetMasters crowd is migrating around to enjoy their 2A.

Seeing all those potential “shooting lanes” at USI gives me hope. Can’t wait to have a range 10mins away that has some elbow room.

When USI first closed I told my wife we would be living in Nevada before it ever reopened. It was a joke. Turned out to be true,

It's good to see the progress being made. I was a member of Diablo for years and loved the MP range and the trap fields. I've since moved out of the area and can now shoot on my own land anyway, but I keep wishing USI success.

I drove past the range 15 minutes ago, it look like they have half of the pistol side with trusses up and truss "runners" up in both pistol and rifle side up ready for the trusses.

Yes, that looks like the new public pistol and rifle ranges, built in the same orientation as the old ones. The trusses will likely go over the shooting line (concrete) and the targets on the face of the berm. Pistol in the foreground, rifle in the background.

I just noticed that the pistol and rifle line don't line up. I wonder how will the range shack sit so the range master can look down both lines.

I wonder if wood beams and metal plates will be installed forward and above the shooting line?

Can’t wait to see the range finished and open for business.

FYI, look at the pallets to get an idea of the scale of the concrete pad.

Savagemann and myself walked up there when he took the pic. Looks like shack possibly between the rifle/pistol or at least a wall because the last pistol shooter would be subject to getting shot in the back by the first rifle shooter.

Librarian, Targets will be in front of that berm as action pistol range is on other side of it. Angle of pic makes it look weird but it's a large berm with tarp covering lower half.

Also interestingly the trusses did not seem large enough to span from beam to beam. Maybe it was perspective though.
Jtv said they started putting them up, so maybe they do. The pads look roughly 30' in width. Can't wait to see more progress.

Yes, that makes a difference - at first I thought the post and rail was something like a walkway fence; now I see that the beams I thought were rails are maybe 6' off the ground.

Looks nice but frankly it doesn't look much different that what was there in the 1st place.

FWIW, I thought the problem was that allegedly stray bullets were being shot up towards the church. What's being done to alleviate that problem?

I think two things:
  1. There will be a lower overhang in front of the shooting position.
  2. There will be sand on the ground between the firing line and the targets and a more effective bullet trap at the target position to prevent rounds from bouncing up and over.

I'm only guessing, though, so I could be completely wrong.

1. The roof above the shooting line will be bullet proof (steel)
2. There is a lower overhang
3. The will be horizontal wood laminate beams between the shooter and the target at a height so when you are shooting you can not see any blue sky above the target. No way for a bullet to impact above the target berm.

Also, If you are USPSA / action pistol certified you can currently shoot at the A/P range with all pistol calibers (no magnums on steel) and pistol caliber carbines including a .17 Caliber rifle but only to 45 yards (longest bay). but that is only on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays and the preceding Thursdays. or the Steel Challenge matches on the 2nd Sundays. View Diablo Rod & Guns web site on how to get certified to shoot on the A/P range. The next certification class is August 3 but you have to sign up on line before the class.

A little more progress. Pics from 7-10-19

Trusses all up across the pistol AND rifle pads.

The truck helps put the roof height in perspective.

LOL!!!! Just in time for the rainy season.

FUBAR . . . Not sure I'm going to rejoin DAP but, when the public range reopens, it will be nice (in my case) to not have to drive all the way to Livermore, Tracy or Livermore to shoot again.

Was up there Thursday. They had added all of the truss reinforcements and were skinning the east facing sides with plywood on the roof.
For the first time, I saw several guys working at the same time.6 or 7.
Usually only see 1 or 2 guys.

Will be up there tomorrow and see if it is worth taking new pics.
