Default The lowest six digit SA you're probably going to see...

Go my new CMP Field Grade in. Nothing exceptionally remarkable about the rifle in a correct or original sense. It has a mostly WRA trigger group, SA/EMcF very early stock, HRA 8-51 replacement barrel, IHC bolt...it covers them all.

The thing that got me excited about it is the serial number. It's 165522...that's probably the lowest six digit Springfield Armory any of us will see. It was made in December 1940 and probably on the day of the change over from 100,000 to 165,500 which is the start of the long, long run of WWII rifles. It's so low that they had to hand stamp the 1 on there. This is also my earliest M1 and you can see that these earlier rifles had some changes to the receiver geometry.

Thought I'd share. I do love CMP rifles, and my local FFL, Glaser Arms, even waits for me to open the box as long as I can get there same day.

Next I'm debating over another Field Grade, Service...or maybe a Winchester .308 Special.

My lowest (now gone). It was all correct except for the stock for some reason. Barrel, sights, uncut oprod, trigger pack. Even the front sight plug was in place and the original coating was on the gas cylinder. October/November 1941
