Default Pricing for a new Dan Wesson Commander Classic in California?

Hope this question is appropriate.

What is a fair or good price for a new Commander Classic here in California? And any dealer has stock?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to their website and look for the “find a dealer” search function. Then call all the stores on the list in your area. They’re not a high volume manufacturer, so my guess is there aren’t very many new guns out there right now. There are currently a few on calguns for prices not much more than MSRP if you don’t want to wait for “factory new”. I know, because I just bought one.

Thanks CA1958. Appreciate the tip. I don't even mind nicely cared for used ones if the price is good but in this climate, not sure if there will be any to be had.

Thanks.

New from the store, about $1500+tax&Dros.
Used, less than that depending on the condition.

You didn't mention your area but check with RifleGear for store pricing. They usually have ok or better pricing on new guns.

Also check in the for sale forum on Calgun. They are not rare and are posted for sale often.

MSRP is about $1,700. I got a nicely cared for used one here on Calguns with original box/papers for $1,900 with 7 magazines & about 70 rounds of ammo. Every one I’ve seen listed here has been slightly under $2k, similar to gunbroker.com...

It's been about 15 years however I bought my CBOB and PM7 for $800.00 each. In addition to time, IIRC DW had other 1911s on roster so neither was a "CA special" commitment by the company. I like each a lot and think they are excellent pistols. I do wonder if they're worth it by comparison to other 1911s available in CA. Certainly there must be a company cost associated with keeping these to models alive when the DW line has changed. Which gets me to two points -

Can a used DW CBOB, which outside CA is just another readily available 1911, be found for a price that makes shipping and fees worthwhile? I see one for $1,500.00 - that clearly isn't going to work. But at $1,200.00?

Also, at a current "about $1,700.00" the CBOB is bumping up into Les Baer territory, so for a few $$$ more that may represent a better value.

Again, I like mine and bought them literally one after the other. The DW Agent, a 5" fixed sight 1911, I bought new for probably $1,400.00. I just wonder about the CA availability aspect and how much that adds that's not "on the screen" so to speak.

I wonder if a dealer shipped one from outside of California to a dealer in California who is willing to do the transfer, would I need to pay tax on that? I know that private party transfer has no tax so got to wondering....would that be true of dealers from outside CA?

Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

Yes, you pay the California tax regardless. Either the shipping dealer charges it on your purchase bill, or if he does not, the receiving dealer here in California will collect the tax.

What do you want? The drop dead pretty brushed stainless of the CBOB or the notoriously thin blueing of a LB? Most of us probably wouldn't notice much difference in the actual shootability. I get it. Some people LIKE the appearance of worn bluing. Different strokes.

Fixin' to sell a DW PM7. Price out the door 6 years ago was $1541. (Yes, I have the original receipt. ) Never fired it. I have a SIG ST Target I like better. <$1K.

the classic and point man 7 are usually around the 1500-1650 mark brand new from what I've seen.

Just don't be like me and sell yours after you find one.

The CBOB and PM7 are on roster and, as I understand it, still made by DW for Kalifornistan in special batches. When I was actively buying I would see them turn up with some regularity but as I said... in batches.

If you keep your eyes open and a wad of cash in your pocket you can probably replace yours.

I'm fairly close to shuffling off this mortal coil so I'm offloading. Not a fire sale though. I have a good friend with pretty similar tastes to me and he's getting some of my choicer pieces in exchange for selling the rest for my son who has zero interest in guns.

I had to Google that and the case colored slide version popped up.

OMD that is one BEAUTIFUL 1911!

Current price $3700! If I had the disposable income I would be sorely tempted though and I loathe front cocking serrations.

Dan Wesson was a fairly well kept secret until CZ bought them. They upped the prices on everything which kind of drove up the prices of used ones. Then people found out just how good DWs were and, well...

IMO it's still the best of the mass produced 1911s. I would rate SIG as a better bang for the buck in a 1911 though.

That naked, brushed polish slide sans billboards, tacticool buzzwords and useless front cocking serrations on the DW just gives a boner, man!

Funny. I tried to sell my CBob here a couple-three years ago. Pretty sure the price was fair for the time. Certainly well below what’s being asked today.

Not a single bite. Still have it and glad I do.

I paid $1450 brand new 3 months ago.

Yes, Dan Wesson 1911’s had a 30-50% lower MSRP/RETAIL a few years ago. I bought a 2007 Dan Wesson C-Bob last year, and the fit wasn’t even close to the 2020 version. It wasn’t just the age either. I have taken both guns apart and notice a difference in quality. I’m no expert in the field, so perhaps age has more to do with it than I thought? The 2007 model couldn’t have had more than 500 rounds through it. Aside from rust while sitting, it was evident that it hadn’t really been shot, holstered or even handled without white gloves.
