11/9 San Jose Zouaves Free 22lr Junior Match
San Jose Zouaves is a high-power rifle club with the aim of encouraging organized rifle competition among civilian shooters with an emphasis on safety, fundamental marksmanship, firearms knowledge, and good sportsmanship.
We offer CMP matches for new and returning shooters two times a month, and a free junior's match once a month. ----------- On the second Saturday of the month (The next one is November 9th), the Zouaves partner with Santa Clara County and hosts an introductory course in rifle fundamentals for Juniors (age 10-20) in 22lr. Basic training on the operation and accurate firing of rifles is provided first, followed by a scored, four position course. This is a great way to introduce a son or daughter to the sport! We have people who have been running government sanctioned competitions and passing on their knowledge to others for years. We have a great love of the sport, and want to offer an environment for younger people interested in learning more to try it out. ----------- When: November 9th. Check-in is at 8:00am. Where: Santa Clara Field Sports Park (Metcalf) 200 yard range. Here's a map for parking and meeting locations. Cost: Completely free to anyone 10-20 years old. Ammo, range fee, everything is covered! We gladly accept a $5 donation per shooter if you want to help out with ammo and target costs though. Rifles: We supply 22lr rifles for attendees to use. If you have a long gun in 22lr that you'd like to bring along, that's okay too. What to bring: Pants and closed toe shoes are strongly recommended. Long sleeves and sunscreen can be handy, but the firing line is covered. Long sleeves might be a good idea if you are concerned about the attending youth's comfort while using a rifle sling, laying on a shooting mat (cut pieces of carpet), or on the chance that a brass casing lands on their arm. Natural breaks come up while targets are swapped out so bring water and a snack. If you have ear and eye protection, and a shooting mat, bring them along, but we have free loaners if you don't! There's an FAQ here with more info for first time attendees, and this flyer put together by the count. IMPORTANT: We require a liability release waiver and consent form, found in the FAQ above. We usually have copies at the range, but it can save you some time to fill it out in advance and bring it. ----------- It's a fun time, and is a great opportunity for youngsters looking to try out the sport to practice some fundamentals and try out a range trip in a safe, controlled environment. Groups, Scouts, and other learning-oriented parties are more than welcome, but you must let us know two weeks in advance so we can secure enough helpers. If you're interested in attending, feel free to PM me, check out our website, or e-mail us at sjzouaves@gmail.com with any questions. |
