This afternoon it is taking me 45 - 64 seconds to load a thread and take me to the newest post. It has been like this most mornings and afternoons. I have so many unread threads because of the lag, and I just give up. I remember when dialup BB's were like this.

Chances are the banner ads are served up from different servers.

Haven’t dealt with this slow if a page loading in over 15 years I think or more.
Hopefully this migration isn’t going to last much longer than the end of the month. I’ll need to read that Sticky again.

why is this so slow still, is this a one server setup or multiples servers being severed up behind a load balancer? if the latter then add a few more vm's to service the requests

As of 1/18/2023 I am see slow response. This on both home and work networks and different computers. It's been like this for at least a week. I forget when I first noticed it.

Edit: This post took 20 seconds from when I clicked "post" to when it actually posted.

If this is a "migration-in-progress" it's got to be one of the longest I've ever seen.

If not, then something's wrong with the new servers, there is a huge delay in loading "New Posts" and the 20-30 second lag to load a page makes me very selective about which posts are worth the delay to get to that page, and then to get back to "New Posts". It certainly has degraded the usability of the site for me.

Took me 3 minutes from login to get to the bottom of this thread. I am not sure if the Admin's are still working on the migration, need some help with it, or have issues they are trying to resolve, there are no updates. Folks will eventually give up and move on, so an update may be in order.

Would also make the site much faster would be to archive older threads. I would put everything from say 2016 or older onto a separate archived site.

This way when you click on a thread the server doesn't have to load everything. Just think every click a member makes on this site the server has to reload every page on this site since it started. You're talking about hundreds of thousands of pages that have to reload every time someone clicks on a thread. That's A LOT of bandwidth. I would start archiving the site and cut out the heavy load on the server so it reloads much quicker.

I'm reminded of another forum that we had here in Socal. It was by far the best for that particular area of interest. The forum was active for many years. However, technical issues arose, and the owner of the forum was not quick to resolve the problem. The situation went on for a while, maybe a couple months. Eventually the owner got everything resolved. By then, everyone moved on, and the forum never recovered. It was the end of an era.

I don't pretend to be know anything about the inner workings, the economics, or the politics of Calguns. With my limited knowledge, I try to imagine why it would take so long to move the domain to another host. After all, upgrades and modifications happen across the internet every single day. One possibility, is that there are negotiations underway to transition Calguns to a company specialized in running forums. VerticalScope is one such company that has absorbed a LOT of forums. They seem to do a good job of maintaining functionality and reliability. I'm not a gambling man, but if I had to bet...
