Default Confusion about specific ar15 law

I'm sure this has been answered many times over somewhere on the forum but I can't find a straight answer. I also read the sticky mag-law thread.

I purchased 30-rounders during the week they were legal, got excited, and decided to finally build my ar-15 since it won't be hindered so much with 10 rounds.

I decided to opt for the takedown pin mag lock thing..the hogue freedom fighter kit that only enables mag release button when i click the action open.

Am I reading it right that I'm not allowed to use 30-rounders in this kind of setup? .. the setup i really really wanted?

Correct you CAN NOT use 30 round mags with a mag lock set up. You can only use them with featureless configurations.

30rd mags would only be legal on featureless with a detachable magazing.Arguably legal on BBRAW (registered AW).
You need to build out a featureless build to us the new mags.

That's the way I understood it. Lawyers warned that attaching a FIXED 30 round mag to an AR-15 is still considered an Assault weapon by California Law. Rifle must be featureless and have a mag release so it's not fixed. Like a Mini 14, M1A, or cobalt kinetics 27 from what i gathered. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Any magazine capable of holding over 10 rounds (not just 30 round mags) in a fixed rifle/pistol converts it as a so called AW (assault weapon) and illegal ..
hope this helps.

If your semi-auto firearm utilizes a device that makes it have a "fixed magazine", then it is still CA illegal to increase the fixed magazine's capacity to greater than 10 rounds because doing so will make the firearm an illegal assault weapon.

11+ round magazines can legally be used in RAWs, featureless semi-auto centerfire rifles, rimfire rifles, manually operated rifles, shotguns, manually operated pistols, and featureless semi-auto pistols.
