Well, I've done a number of PPT's at Battlefield Adventures on Thompson. Standard $35 transaction. Great folks, always a positive experience.
Today I went in and did a PPT. Time to pay - propriartor said that will be $60!!!!!!!!!!!! I say What? He says his insurance rates have gone up and he's losing money.! I'm not sure this is even legal
I'm already committed so I pay the price. It appears he is trying to discourage doing PPT. He convinced me! Sad part is, I've bought other stuff in his store. Not any more.

Battle field adventures caters to Leo's and airsoft commandos. Overpriced and over attitude by staff... I rather drive the 10 miles down to Camarillo gun store.

Contact DOJ and get the $25 back. It is not legal.

Anyone else notice that Island Views Gun Store is now by appointment only? No more going in and browsing. Sad.

Island view is on its way down.

The business is for sale and the building too. I believe for 4 or 5 million, which is too much.

Why was Island View not able to give the other indoor range in the area some viable competition? Last time I was in the other range it was packed on both range and gun shop side.

They were awesome when they first opened. Then something happened, not sure what. Probably internal politics and BS that always happens in these kinds of situations. Lots of familiar faces disappeared from the store and the folks who took their places just didn't seem to give a rats *** about the customers........

I took my original CCW class there with Jim LaPoint. Great class, far more than just the basics, they even set up a small obstacle course on the range and had you fire while on the move, weaving, forward and backward, side to side all kinds of stuff. Made me feel like the price I paid was worth what I got. Suddenly..BAM...Jim and his counterpart were gone and no one knows what happened...

I can't believe it! Appointment only gun store? Business for sale? WTH! I agree with Baggss. They were so awesome, everyone really friendly and helpful, and I loved going there (as opposed to the pit that is Shooter's Paradise). Then there was some sort of management change. All the guys I liked disappeared and the new ones seemed unfriendly and only about money. Their prices got higher, and they were completely unhelpful when we were up there for the petition drive. I did take a basic pistol class there (their first one under new management, I think), and it was awful. Stock in the gun store was minimal. I haven't shot there for months. Really sad.

Oh ya i forgot to mention that i was disappointed to see the gun store part of Ive doors closed. appt only bs. If you want to look or shop for guns its turners ,paradise, gun broker or the gallery, I like the fact that the range was open till 8pm fri nite, has good ventilation and the staff is polite and friendly. The ive reloads is priced right for fun range time solo or with a few buds.If your ammo sticks to a magnet its a no go.

Anyone has any experience shooting at the Smokin Barrel in Simi? I am curious if they allow Russian bi-metal ammo.

According to their range safety video (on their facebook page), they only specifically disallow steel-core ammo. They specifically say "we here at Smokin Barrel know and understand the difference between steel core and steel jacketed ammo, and expect our customers to do the same"

So, seems like I may have an indoor range to finally shoot all my wolf ammo at.

I'll do a plug for Knights Tactical in Camarillo.
The owner is great - today he gave me a hammer lever roll pin because mine is somewhere lost in my shop - I lost a spring like six months ago and Camarillo Gun store had some but they would only sell me a whole LPk- I may pay $5 more for a part there but I'm happy to support a local gun store even if the prices are slightly above online or big brand stores.

Great store if you haven't gone in there recently. I try to shop there for parts when I can. I might buy a gun from him just because one of these days.

A friend said that a Smokin Barrel clerk told him that Island View is for sale. Take that as you will, but it would not surprise me.

Maybe not the best time to jump on their 50% off memberships...

That's interesting. I called them and asked if they allow bimetal ammo like Wolf and the guy's response was "nothing steel is allowed." Had I known about the video I'd have pressed further, but as it is I just went to Shooter's Paradise instead.

Chris is a great guy to do business with. I want to say I bought my last 3 out 4 firearms from Gillio's. I'm down here in Oxnard but the drive to SB was worth the savings.

So I've been hitting Smokin Barrel up in Simi as of late. Bit of a drive for me but worth it. Nice new place, friendly staff and so on...
