Default 380 ACP for Medium game?

Underwood ammo has a 100gr 380 ACP hard cast flat nose and they are listing one possible use as hunting Large game and it shows a picture of a Moose. Seriously, who would hunt Moose with a 380?

I draw line at hunting elk and below with .380 ACP, anything larger is just inappropriate. Definitely would not hunt Cape buffalo or elephant with it, it would be to much to ask of .380 ACP.

Default I thought you were pulling our legs

Their website does suggest that larger game is what this load was designed for.

A bullet that generates some 295 lbs of energy sounds awfully light for something like moose or elk.

Does anybody even make a handgun with a long enough barrel and sight radius to take advantage of this?
Strange.

I think they are smoking crack. That's the only explanation.
From their website 380 ACP +P 100 Grain Flat Nose description.
Quote:
Hard cast flat nose bullets are non-expanding, powerfully penetrative bullets that are designed with your woods defense needs in mind; whether fending off wild hogs or black bears, the hard cast flat nose bullets are consistently effective in taking down any wild animals that you may encounter.

I have no beef with any fraternal members of the Loyal Order of Moose myself. A HiPoint TSS .380 carbine might be a fun varmint rifle....if you can afford the ammo.

WHAT?!!! A bullet manufacturer making outrageous claims about the performance of their ammo? -Never!

"Hard cast flat nose" - we call them "wadcutters".

Shot plenty of Maine black bears with 380. I once lined up 2 of them over a pile of bait. Shot clean through both bears and they ran about 30 yards before they went +i+$ up!!!

Remind me to tell you about the 6 foot long King Salmon and 650 lb Halibut I caught in Alaska using 15 lb test line.

I use .380 Xtreme Preposterousators when hunting large land mammals. I do prefer my G42 over my LCP for the greater velocities achieved with the longer barrel. Oddly, my wife just asked me to up the limits on my life insurance policy as well.

Default .380acp is plenty enough gun for moose.

What has this world come to when the shooter doesn't have enough confidence to blast the biggest
Alaskan virtual moose with a PPK .380 on the computer screen 3 feet away?

I was stationed in Alaska in the 80s, and had friends who painted the sides of their farm animals, i.e. cow, horse, etc, so the big city dumb *****es from the lower 48 wouldn't mistake them for game. It's these same dumb-*****es that believe a 380 will keep them safe while hiking.

Come on guys be nice it actually says for fending them off… not hunting. In any case you’re probably better off just throwing rocks at them LOL

.380 ACP is for close range, like 3 yards or less....

Okay, for the 9mm +P 147gr HCFN they are advertising for large Game and DANGEROUS ANIMALS with a Grizz for the example. No f^(k!n% way would I carry 9mm for Grizz.

https://www.underwoodammo.com/collec...18785691598905

Now, I'm not saying Underwood is bad ammo, they make great ammo, one of the best hyper ammo on the market IMO. I carry the +P 124gr 9mm in my CZ SP-01. I also have some of their 45ACP HCFN and do believe this would be a good round for woods carry: defense against Black Bear, Cougar, Coyote, etc. But advertising 9mm for Grizzly Bear defense is just negligent.

Actually, James Bond carried a .32 ACP Walther PPK. He originally preferred a .25 ACP Beretta because it didn't mess with the lines of his suits.

The .380 ACP destroys too much meat. If you accidentally hit the shoulder, it goes off like a grenade. I prefer CB caps and a "Texas Heart-shot."

Guaranteed those guys haven't personally put themselves in front of a moose or grizzly with that load. I guess they don't say "dangerous game" and can thus pretend they're not referring to cape buffalo and the like, but certainly seems to imply that or otherwise obscure the distinction.

I use my G42 for dove. I do wish it had a longer sight radius. Head shots work the best.

.380 for big game is no problem. You can even take 200 yard shots. Just have a couple of extra mags ready to go.

F it, I'm convinced.

I've got a moose hunt booked and the old Jennings / Bryco .380 ACP loaded to the brim.

You all making light of it have obviously never run into a drunken, pissed off hood moose in a dark alley at 2am...those +p .380s are the difference between getting home and getting moose-stomped. Not a pretty picture, sorry I had to go there.

Moose in a dark alley. Well there are similar human types I guess.

Frankly 380 can kill any moose, but it takes 50 rounds and some time to let it bleed out. Ditto for jumbo and lion. Hippo and rhino not so much.

Let it be known to all here...

Anytime you are out late, drinking copious amounts alcoholic beverages, and strolling down moose infested
dark allies during hours of dim light, never, I mean never, leave the establishment without at least a two Jack Russell Terrier escort.

Unless you got a Jack Russell-Terrier Mix, you need only one to chase that moose all the way to the deepest woods. Believe me this Jack Russell Terrier mutt I got is something else. The first time I tried to shame him with the pens and pencils he chewed up the damned mutt went off on me. He jumped so high snapping at my face I thought he was going to bite my nose off. Kneeing him while hes airborne didnt stop him. He almost pushed me off the stairs while Im doing my Muay Thai knee blocks. I didnt want to punt the damned dog into a wall, that would just break my babygirls heart. Thats when I remembered I had my little pepper spray in my pocket. A short burst to his face took the fight out of him. After that he knew whos the Alpha in the house! He still growls a little every now and then when I tell him to get out of the kitchen, but he knows Ill send the 9 month old pure bred Husky after him that will torment him until hes panting to exhaustion.
