Avoid this place like the plague. Its a rip-off. Its so expensive that the one and only time I was there, for the cost of the hour I could have purchased 250 rounds of the most expensive factory .45acp, AND gotten change back!
Just to prove how pathetic this place is, they advertise Utah/Florida CCW classes. They state on their website: The Utah and Florida CCW will allow you to carry in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming. Please keep in mind that these permits DO NOT cover California. Utah never had a reciprocity agreement with Nevada, so the Florida CCW permit must be the correct license. However, when you go to the Florida website: July 1, 2009: NEVADA removed from the list because Nevada authorities terminated the agreement. More misinformation from the LAX Range..... For pistols, this place is great! $20 and you can shoot all day. There are no lanes (lots of steel targets), so you can spread your fancy shootin' irons all over the tables and not feel cramped. On a Weekend afternoon, its usually not that crowded. Lotsa celebrities (in cognito of course) visit. Never been to the restaurant (doesn't sound that tasty anyway). The ROs are very nice. Never seen anyone there sweep their muzzle in the wrong direction (guess there's always a first time though). The clientele is very friendly, and I've been offered many times to try other's guns...
Not sure if you can collect your brass, but I don't think I've ever seen a sign to the contrary. So reloaders are okay, but I would check first. Overall: * * * * (4/5 stars! No one is perfect) http://www.oaktreegunclub.com//shoot...ues/pistol.asp Last edited by OneHotDog; 08-02-2012 at 2:03 PM.. |

This is a new facility! Very modern, nice indoor facility. Special HVAC units to filter and circulate the air. There appears to be only 10 lanes, and they are cramped. Additionally, they have few, if any, places to sit down. I bring my own guns, ammo, and targets. Maximum distance is 60' feet I believe. RO is nice, but keeps an eye on things. Once in a while, the gangbanger crowd shows up, but they are well-behaved (an armed society is a polite society).
The adjoining gun store caters to the modern firearms crowd (military and LEO types). Very few revolvers or C&R type firearms. I recommend it. Overall: * * * * (4 stars) http://www.youtube.com/user/IslandViewGuns Last edited by OneHotDog; 08-02-2012 at 2:02 PM.. |

Does anyone have the latest news about the Pacific Rod and Gun Club in San Francisco? I hope it stays. I don't relish the idea of driving all the way to Los Altos or Chabot just to shoot Skeet. Those are nice places but soo far.

Not this time of year...and they will check. Some have experienced their desire to take your ammo and hold it for you, if they feel you're a risk.

RANGE: Circle S Ranch Shooting Range
LOCATION: Petaluma, CA TYPE: Outdoor WEB LINK: http://www.sonomashooting.org/circles.html OLL FRIENDLY: Yes AREAS: 25 yard pistol, 50, 100, 200 and 300 yard rifle. "Throw your own clays" shotgun area FACILITY: 2/4 STAFF: 3/4 OVERALL: 3/4 COMMENTS: Very laid back shooting range located north of the Bay Area. Note that the fee increased from $10 to $15 person/day. Bring everything you need, the only thing they seem to sell is NRA 25 yard pistol targets for $0.50. No rapid fire on the pistol/rifle lanes. The place could use a loud speaker or buzzer to help let people know when a ceasefire is coming up. The facilities are OK, the benches are pretty old but get the job done. Some target stands are new, some are pretty beat up. The overhangs that prevent you from shooting too high looked like they had just been rebuilt. You may have to bring your own sand bags/rifle rests. There are some wood rests available, but it can be hit or miss. I don't believe you can shoot off hand, prone or kneeling here. You can put clay targets in the empty berm on the 50 yard line if you would like. You can't setup target stands on the pistol range closer than 25 yards, which is too bad. The shotgun area is cool, but just remember that you have to use #7 steel shot. |

I've heard this place is like a Starbucks, very nice. I also heard memberships are on a waiting list. My hearing isn't too good though but I think this is the same range. How cool is it to be able to sight in a rifle w/o any wind... Sweet! Oh yeah, it's just right up the road from me.

RANGE: The Target Range
LOCATION: Van Nuys TYPE: Indoor WEB LINK: http://thetargetrange.com/ AREAS: 15 yards FACILITY: 4/4 STAFF: 4/4 OVERALL: 4/4 LANE COST: $18 (using your ammo) or $12 (using their ammo). $10 gun rental - $20 for premium guns (like 1911's) COMMENTS: Well run facility and Staff is AWESOME. Very friendly, helpful and creates an environment that is very enjoyable, but also makes sure that everyone on the range is safe. Just started going here about 2 months ago and every single visit has been extremely positive. Last week I brought in a new gun to break in (a Kimber which the factory recommends about 500 rounds to break in) and one of the staff really went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of - he did some quick cleaning/lube and inspection of the Custom II every 80 or so rounds (which saved me several trips home to do the same thing), lent me a bottle of CLP and showed me how to lubricate the frame periodically during the break in, and would check in periodically (in a good way) to make sure everything was ok. Talk about exemplary Customer Service! They've definetly won me over as a regular. They sell guns now (pretty decent selection too), and one thing I found out was that if you purchase a gun from them, you can shoot it on their range while you are in the 10 day waiting period! ![]() The facility is nice, range ammo prices are good, and on the weekends parking is not a problem as there is plenty of street parking because the surrounding businesses are closed. |

RANGE: Manteca Sportsmen
LOCATION: 30261 S. Airport Way, Manteca TYPE: Outdoor WEB LINK: http://mantecasportsmen.com OLL FRIENDLY: not sure AREAS: Trap, Rifle 50 yard (rimfire only), rifle 100 yard, pistol 25 yard, archery FACILITY: 3/4 STAFF: 4/4 OVERALL: 4/4 COST: Public Fees: (CASH or CHECKS ONLY!) Outdoor rifle and pistol ranges - $15.00 per adult and $8.00 per youth Archery - $8.00 Trap - $4.50 per round COMMENTS: I will preface this by saying I have only been to two ranges so I don't have a lot to compare to. The facility has been around a while and is not fancy but offers fun for everyone. Archery range, a 12 station covered pistol range with targets at 7, 15, and 25 yards, trap shooting, and a rifle range. The rifle range has three 50 yard rimfire only stations, plus ten 100 yard stations. All rifle stations offer seated positions. I think any California legal firearms and caliber are allowed. There is also an indoor .22 only range that is limited to members and facility events. Paper targets only, although their website shows special events with non-paper targets. The staff is very nice and helpful. They will ask if this is your first visit and if you answer yes, they will give you about a 5 minute--non optional-- overview of all the rules. They are willing to help and instruct if asked or if you look like you need it. There is always a range officer at the pistol range but I often see no official RO at the rifle range. I have never heard any RO being rude even when some people deserved it. A very friendly place. Last edited by rdfact; 11-02-2012 at 8:40 PM.. |

1. Upon reaching the counter, we were greeted with a smile and a hearty welcome (what? No surly mumbling? Can this really be an indoor range or did we walk into a Starbucks by mistake?). They wanted to inspect our weapon, which is unusual, but fair enough. We filled out our names and address on a form. We were instructed that long guns crossing from the rear table to the lane must have an indicator flag in the chamber, and we were handed one. That's a reasonable rule too, and being told up front was much more pleasant than being hollered at over the PA later. 2. We went inside the shooting range and found it to be ROOMY (!!!) and well-lit. 3. Then we were greeted by Les Robinson, the RSO. An RSO at an indoor range, that's fantastic. Les was super-friendly to us and everyone else (something you don't always see in an RSO). The first thing he did when I told him we were zeroing a rifle was find us a chair to sit on. I brought two sandbags and he said that probably wasn't enough, so he went and brought us a couple more (they had his name marked on them, so they were his personal sandbags). With four sandbags we were good to go. While we were working on the rifle I saw Les greeting and assisting all the other shooters. He was great. Then he would come around every few minutes and sweep up the brass at everyone's feet. An indoor range RSO is a good thing as far as I'm concerned, and if he is as friendly and helpful as Les, it's a great thing, especially when you are bringing women and young people to the range who don't want to be barked at all the time (BTW, lots of women at the range last night). 4. The new target system is pretty nice. A digital indicator tells you how far away your target is. There is a button for an overhead light (a real plus for middle aged guys like me with fading eyesight). 5. Getting out took some time (maybe seven or ten minutes). There were only two guys behind the counter when we came out and they spent a lot of time with a couple of groups who were just arriving (inspecting weapons and ammunition, etc). Maybe they should be more stringent about the use of the "Checking in" and "Checking out" lanes. 6. Lots of guns for rent. Doesn't mean much to me, but other folks might like that. While we were waiting to check out we saw one of the guys radio ahead to Les the RSO that there was a guy coming in with a rental gun who had little or no experience with it. What a great way to prevent potential accidents proactively and also ensure n00bs had a good shooting experience. 7. Big facility. We didn't go exploring, but there is a larger room to one side where you can wait for a lane to open if it is busy. There's also an upstairs, problem with classrooms. We paid $18.00 plus $9.00 for two people in one lane. That's pricy, but I don't mind paying more for a quality product or a superior experience, and that's what we got from Field Time last night. I think the rates are hourly, which is unusual. That'd be a problem at an outdoor range, where I typically want to hang around for half the day, but I never spend very much time at an indoor range anyway, so maybe it's no big deal. Stanton is out of our way, but we will be going back again and again. The GF really was impressed, especially given the less than pleasant experiences she has had at other local indoor ranges.

Mike Thompsons Piru Gun Range, Lake Piru.
Nicest people you will ever meet. Paper targets already placed at 50 yds, 100 yds, and every 100 yds out to 600 yds, steel targets every 100 yds out to 1000 yds. Free use of 5 spotting scopes. 20 tables, not as big as Los Angeles but a lot friendlier and quieter. Mike will mount your scope if you dont have the tools, he also helps newbies with safety advice and learn how to hold their weapon properly. He has a big twirly moustache and a bigger smile. Just take the 126 to Lake Piru and there is a sign at the dirt road on the right just before the lake. |

When I got my 1911, they helped me with cleaning and maintaining. One staff was with me for about 30 minutes helping me on gripping my 1911 and shooting exercises. After he helped me, rounds were on top of each other. I also bought my Sig 229 there, it was great service and they're super helpful. For what it's worth, I have to say that there must have been a lot of changes at Livermore. Every time I have gone, it has always been a good day at the range. I've always had good conversations with the range officers and always felt safe. The RO's have given me & my wife pointers on safe shooting, better shooting, practice routines etc. The only yelling was when people didn't obey the rules. Given that we are around tools that can easily take ones life, I wholeheartedly agree that yelling is appropriate. Even then, people have been treated with respect. The range manager in the office has always been nice to us too. Have always felt comfortable and safe there. My only wish is that they allow steel shooting like Hickok45! But, I doubt I could hit them at much of a distance! Sometimes the safest place to be when I'm shooting is the target! LOL! |

FACILITY: 3/4 - It's a little cruddy but overall it's better than any other indoor range I've seen around here. STAFF: 5/4 - These guys are the greatest. Always safety conscious, helpful and attentive even during the recent crazy times. OVERALL: 4/4 COST: Shooting lanes are $16/hr for one person, $20/hr two people. An "hour" seems to be subjective, which is nice. Ammo is pricey if available. Back before the insanity, it was much more reasonable. Just went there yesterday and have to agree with this rating. Great location and extremely nice staff. The new bathroom is open for business, so that's a plus. Spent some time shooting on the pistol side and then on the rifle side. Everyone at the range seemed to be having a good time and being safe -- always a plus. The RO also told me about all the different events they have at the range. Seems like a good community there. |

RANGE: Riverside Indoor Shooting Range
LOCATION: Riverside off the 91 TYPE: Indoor WEB LINK: http://www.riversideindoorshootingrange.com OLL FRIENDLY: Yes AREAS: 25 yards FACILITY: 3/4 STAFF: 4/4 OVERALL: 4/4 COST: $20-2 hrs COMMENTS: The facility is new and opened officially in January (had a soft opening before January. The staff was friendly upon check in. You do go through a one check with the RSO that you how to load, shoot and clear. After the check, we were left alone to shoot. There is a shelf below your shooting table to put cases, range bags, ammo, etc. The target stations have a lever to move targets back and forth. We shot the AR, 9mm, .22 rifle, .380 and a 357 magnum. There is also an indoor archery range and sign ups for many classes. In comparing with Field Time in Stanton, it isn't as fancy or has the electronic target distances or light adjustments, but it didn't have the crowd or long wait times either. We did not wait for a lane and that is a good thing. It is freeway close off the 91 near Pierce/ Magnolia. |
