COMMENTS: It's a bit of a drive from where I'm at, but it's worth it. Polite staff and reasonable prices on reload ammo ($11 for 50rd .45/.40S&W). They allow holster draw, rapid fire, and OLL.

Clientele seemed to be just as friendly as the staff. Mostly military and locals.

+1

I wanted to join in with all of the other people commenting on this place. I really enjoy shooting here. I wish I lived closer (or they were further south) as the drive from San Diego to Oceanside can get a bit sticky - otherwise I'd be shooting there all the time!

It's been fairly busy when I've been in, yet the staff members maintain their courteous service. Lots of Marines and LEO were there last time I went in. The shop is a little lean on accessories, but that's because the gun cases take up most of the space (as they should!). Plenty of lanes to go around.

Great place.

I went to Raahauges last week. I can't give it a full review because it was may first time there. It was also weekday and mine was the only group on the rifle range.

I have to say that the folks who work there are very friendly and very helpful. Despite the high cost ($30) I'm definitely going back there again.

I was with 2 Marines and 1 Sheriff Deputy, both showed their MIL/LE IDs and we were still talked to like we are ignorant red-headed step children. no paying $20 on sundays for a silly rifle card that expires. prior incidents with ontarget has resulted in the loss of my business.

COMMENTS: This range is run by ignorant, rude and dangerous people. This range was completely unsafe and I will never return here, nor will I recommend it to anyone.

I did a search for past reviews on this place and the reviews that came up said good things about this range. They were however 1+ years old so maybe its change, or maybe I just went on a day that had stupid *** people working it, however yelp has reviews from people having similar experiences.

Four of us took a trip out to the San Leandro range a few weeks ago on a Wednesday. When we arrived we were greeted by a large old white man who's attitude immediately gave me a bad feeling about the place. We walked inside and began to pay, get some extra ammo and pickup our targets. At one point one of my friends asked one of the guys behind the counter about shooting 5.56mm and if they sold any. The guy behind the counter responded saying that 5.56 is a NATO round and is illegal for civilian use under the Geneva Convention.

So we got everything together and made our way out to the 100yd range so two of the guys in the group could begin shooting there AR's. The first guy to sit down had just installed an EOTech sight which was WAY off and needed to be calibrated. He took three or four shots, all of which completely missed the target and hit a large wooden barrier that comes down over the range, about 50yds down. Immediately the large old white man comes out screaming in these words; "the next one of you ****ing *******s to shoot that barrier is going to get thrown out of here". My friend apologized saying he was trying to calibrate his site, that it was not intentional and that he will try not to hit it again. The old man continued to berate him and then went back inside.

After that my second friend with an AR sat down and the two of them began shooting. The first guy fired one shot and again hit the barrier, my second friend got two shots off (which hit his target) before the old man came outside again. But, this time he didn't go up to the guy who hit the barrier. Instead he went up to my second friend (who hit his target), tapped him on the shoulder and said; "get the **** out of here. I told you ****ing idiots not to shoot that god damn barrier, now get the **** out". My friend who hit the barrier apologized again and said he wouldn't fire that gun anymore and that it was him, not our other friend who hit the barrier. The old man replied; "i don't give a **** who hit it but your out of here anyway". We began to pack up out things and made our way out. As we were getting ready to leave another small group of people had come in and were preparing to shoot on the 100rd range but they were not sure if there was a cease fire or not, they asked the old man if they could begin shooting or not and he replied; "****ing shoot, I don't care".

This range was incredibly unsafe. The range masters were never clear on when a cease fire was called. They let people setup their weapons on the firing benches while others were down range setting up targets. At one point we were downrange setting up targets and when we turned around there was a guy a couple lanes over aiming his rifle downrange. When we all left, one car in our group stayed behind because he wanted to file a complaint with the local PD. According to the San Leandro PD, we were the 4th people that week to complain about the old man and the conditions at the range.

I will never again set foot in this range nor will I ever suggest anyone else go to this place.

I believe I have encountered the same person.
I came here to re-qualify my CA state firearms permit. I get processed and was told to pay the range fee as the folks who do the firearms requal are only contracted to use their range. So I go to the range counter, present the man my work ID (Fed Contract Guard) and request permission to rapid fire after I finish my requal to prepare myself for the more important requals: the Federal Shoot. He denies and proceeds to make fun of my job by stating "you're just some punk Safeway security guard. you're a door man". I just ignore it and pay the man. Minutes later I am done with my requal and figured I might as well stay since I paid the all day range fee ($13). I have my own targets (I.C.E QT) and use those since that's what we use in our federal shoot requals. 20 minutes in, the same man comes over and tells me that I cannot use those targets. I kindly ask why and he told me some story (I still cannot confirm it anywhere) that a lady came in their range one day shooting the very same target and went off on her husband the night she went home. I figured that's understandable but what shocked me was the man then told me to leave! He was getting upset for unknown reasons and I didn't want to get into a pissing match so I just packed my things and left.

I have been coming here the past 5 years and this is probably the worst visit out of the 100+ times I been here. All the range employees I've encountered are great with the exception of this particular man. I don't think I will be coming back here anymore after this experience.

I went to LRRGC yesterday for my 37th birthday.

I liked it & it's open on the week days. Very very clean place.

Wasn't a huge fan of the setup of the range @ first because of the low overhang that is potentially easy to shoot into, the enclosed space(which keeps the heat off you) creates a louder environment and the stepped up target area's.. But I dealt with it; I squatted down some to shoot off hand @ 100 yards & doubled up on my hearing protection.

Didn't experience any rudeness or anything of the sort; in fact it was the complete opposite. Everyone was polite and while I was waiting and watching, one gentleman even offered to let me shoot his .30 carbine, which I did..

I'll go back for sure just for something different.

As an aside-- I fully expect to get yelled at while @ the range if I'm acting a fool; just like @ Chabot or any other rifle range. "They yell because they care."

Better to get hollered by a RO @ than shot at by a yahoo, right?

I am a board member at Livermore Rod and Gun club and also an RSO at the rifle pistol range. The answer to the above comments goes like this.
EYE & EAR PROTECTION IS REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES EVERYWHERE ON THIS RANGE, It is not only a safety rule but something any intellegant person would do. As for the young lady that they spoke of she is the nicest most efficient range office manager of any range that I have been to. As for the person that was not nice to this guy ( maybe he deserved it ) this person no longer works or volunteers as a RSO at this range. He's gone , Kaput , let it go. You will now be treated with respect and when you make a mistake that could possibly hurt someone or yourself, you will be TRAINED in the proper safe handling of firearms rather than being yelled at. Come see us soon.

+1 @ attitude at Reed's in Santa Clara. I have not used the range, but I won't be buying anything from their sales desk in the foreseeable future. Asking to look at anything on the racks will be received with the enthusiasm of someone getting their teeth pulled. Don't expect anything even remotely helpful if you ask for recommendations. As far as indoor ranges go, I'm sticking with Target Masters in Milpitas. I've shot and bought firearms from there without any hassle or condescension.

I had a very good experience at Mike's yesterday. I was there a solid 4 hours. Johnny, the RO, was very helpful and did not mind me staying longer then 2 hrs. He got a kick out of my motorcycle gas tank I've been using as a target (looks like swiss cheese). Pretty much anything goes, within reason, as far as ammo and targets.

COMMENTS: Been a member there for 2 years. Good basic handgun classes. Excellent on accessories. Decent rental selections. They have friendly staff and a well maintained facility. I saw Macauly Caulkin and the brunette from "That 70's Show" one Saturday night. It's more handgun, 22lr, etc. friendly. Cons: Shotguns, OLLs, double/triple taps are not allowed; and it's really popular/crowded on the weekends.
Its approximately $8 for a lane. Can't remember exactly.

+1 Great place and friendly staff. It is slightly warm in the shooting bays though.

COST: $18 (using your ammo) or $12 (using their ammo).
COMMENTS: Been going here for years, the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. membership is $50 cheaper than firing line and the also sell guns there (you can shoot your purchase there while waiting the 10-day wait). After going to several ranges I enjoy this one since I have yet to experience any problems. One time someone who was renting a lane was muzzle flashing people, they kindly gave him a warning before eventually kicking him out. I appreciate places like this that ensures safety for its patrons.

OLL FRIENDLY: Yes
AREAS: 25 yards
FACILITY: 4/4

COMMENTS: Very well-run range, allows pistols and rifles indoor. Walls are marked for 5,7,10,15,25 yards and targets run out & back electronically. Ammo/gun rentals/targets available, but you're also allowed to use your own. Good dividers between lanes. Range is under a good gun/hunting/fishing store. Very sportsman-oriented, but they do sell plenty of Black Rifle gear, HD shotguns, etc. as well.

I have to just give thanks at a guy at Angeles Shooting range.
It was a heavier set gentlemen on the pistol range side. It was this last Sunday, 9/18/2011. I wish I had his name. I was there with my nephews teaching them the rules of firearm safety and how to handle firearms.
This employee went way beyond his way to help us and teach me how to shoot my own m1 carbine. I couldnt make it fire, it was the first time I had shot it.
He was super duper nice and helpful. Sometimes the guys at that range can be a bit on the rude side, but this guy was amazing. I wish they were all like this guy. He made our experience there amazing!!!!
Thanks a million!!!!

I only have been there one time to take my NRA basic rifle course but it was great. You can fire shotgun (skeet), pistol and rifle. During the free time fire period of the rifle course we were doing mag dumps, so I am pretty sure double taps and rapid fire is allowed.

They also have a cowboy action shoot and have a mini western town which is awesome.

This is a non profit firing range staffed with Lion's club volunteers and they are ALL very nice people. They operate the range to fundraise for there charities. Prices are VERY CHEAP!

The Firing Line - Huntington Beach

TYPE: indoor
WEB LINK: http://www.firingline.net/
OLL FRIENDLY: n/a
FACILITY: 3/4
STAFF: 1/4
OVERALL: 2/4
COMMENTS:

I'm a member of this range. The staff is increasingly terrible. When I signed up 6 months ago, things were better--not great, but better. We had a shooting stand collapse on the line. My buddy (ex-military and part-time trainer) called for a cease-fire as I tapped on the glass for the staff. When "Amateur Joe" came onto the line, he came over to us and said that they don't allow people to take down the stand!! We explained what happened, and he began to assess the booth and "um" his way through several incoherent statements BEFORE making the range safe!!! To his credit, he snapped the booth back together and comped us a bag of ammo as all of ours hit the floor. Later, we went back outside to rent another pistol, and as my buddy approached the counter some tatted employee (manager I guess) tells him "Don't ever tell my shooters to cease fire again". My friend interjected a partial explanation, to which the manager simply repeated himself. No apologies for the shoddy facility, the lack of professionalism by his staff, or for the fact that my buddy's pistol hit the floor. I don't look for apologies on most occasions, but I also don't endure mindless accusations. As we were leaving, the same inept staff member was accusing some other member of using hollow-points, to which he was calmly annoyed. Instead of talking it out with the guy, he stated that he would have to leave if he pursued the question any further!!!

EDIT: I just checked my receipt and they charged us for the additional bag of ammo (to replace the one that ended up on the floor and down range--upwards of 30 cartridges lost)

AREAS: lanes 1-3 25yd .223 rifles; lanes 4-15 25yd pistols
FACILITY: 3/4 (too many customers for 15 lanes)

COMMENTS:

Smaller range with a friendly staff, and very busy.

Employees were very safety conscious, as were policies. Saw rangemaster requiring new shooters to perform safe handling demo before permitting them on the range with rentals. Also spoke with a customer who confided in me that on a previous day he was kicked out when his friends reeking of various intoxicants showed up to shoot with him.

Rapid fire permissable (see notes on website for rapid fire regs).

Rifle lanes are .223 only and you must purchase your .223 ammo there.

Smile One of great places for shooting

Yes, this is one of great places for shooting in Bay Area. However, be noticed that the article 26 in their rule states that "You are only allowed to pick up your own brass." Make sure you go over their rule to be not surprised.

Range: Discount Gun Mart
Location: El Cajon, and San Diego
Type: Indoor
Web Link: http://www.discountgunmart.com/
OLL Lower Friendly: yes and no
Area: currently up to 50 feet (San Diego location is building a rifle range)
Facility:3-4/4 (depends on location)
Staff: 4/4
Overall: 4/4
Pros: Santee is typically a very short wait to shoot, I have yet to shoot at San Diego. If you buy a membership at one location it's valid at both. Everytime I have gone they are always nice. 11 indoor electronic shooting booths.
Cons: Santee only allows pistol caliber up to 44mag, but like I said the San Diego range is building a rifle range, should be functional 02/??/12.
Ammo Price: I can't really say the price, I got a membership so ammo and equipment is discounted. I take my done with me and most of the time they let him shoot for free.
Targets: .65¢ each, or big ones are around $1.69.
Range fee: $12 first shooter $10 each additional person in the lane up to 3

Pros: Santee is typically a very short wait to shoot, I have yet to shoot at San Diego. If you buy a membership at one location it's valid at both. Everytime I have gone they are always nice. 11 indoor electronic shooting booths.
Cons: Santee only allows pistol caliber up to 44mag, but like I said the San Diego range is building a rifle range, should be functional 02/??/12.

Got a few questions for you if you can answer them that would be appreciated

Will they let you shoot fruit? Melons, apples, etc?
Is the rifle and pistol range covered?
Does the $30 fee cover BOTH the rifle range and the pistol range within the same shootng session?
Do they have target stands to rent/buy or do I need to bring my own?
Steel targets allowed?
Do they allow spectators(non-shooters), and if so, do they charge a spectator fee?
Any range fees for younger shooters like 12yo and under, or is it the same $30 no matter what?

I have been looking for an alternative place to shoot closer to home, rather than making the long drive to Lytle Creek or Burro an I never shoot beyond 100 yards anyways. According to the mapquest directions, this is only a 36 mnt/26 mile drive from Tustin.

Ditto on IRON SIGHTS, I like the demeanor of the staff and the prices. Most of the shooters are well versed in firearms safety, etc. The range itself is typical and adequate.

COMMENT OF SHOOTERS' APPEARANCE

A while back I overheard several shooters making derisive comments about a group of rough looking guys shooting at one end of a San Diego range. Those talking said "they looked like gang members; they ought to be banned; better watch your gear"; and "why are they at OUR range'. I happened to know each of the well mannered "rough guys, all members of the San Diego PD gang unit doing some practice away from the well known police range facitilty.

Sometimes things are NOT what they appear to be, same with people.

I like this range. Clean, kept , reasonable. Membership is the way to go.
Weekend evenings might not be the best time to shoot there, as with any range in the LALA. Seems they at least filter the yahoos a bit.

Will shut people down ( but not with a pissy attitude ). if they seem hyper-green but won't own up to that.
In my opinion the most dangerous type of person to walk onto a range.

Good folks.

RANGE: Guns, Fishing & Other Stuff
LOCATION: Vacaville
TYPE: Indoor
WEB LINK: http://www.gunsfishing.com/shooting-range_w.php
OLL FRIENDLY: Unknown
AREAS: 25 yards
FACILITY: 4/4
STAFF: 4/4
OVERALL: 4/4
COST: $12 per hour,; $6 per hour Mon-Wed 12-4pm
COMMENTS: Range is underground and split into two sides. The 3-lane side we were on was marked 7 and 15yd and is pistol only. It is a rental range plus we brought plenty of ours.
The 229 my buddy rented was really in need of a clean. Who'd-a-thunk it, a rental gun in need of a clean! That was the only issue of the entire visit.

Great place to shoot. Guy behind the counter still has his sense of humor installed (easy to become jaded in a rental range).
I will add that it was chilly down there so bring somthing warm to wear, however this is a plus point. I don't usually shoot indoors due to the fumes causing me a sore throat. This place has great ventillation, no fumes, no sore throat.

i know its an old thread but reading the first 2 and last 2 pages, i feel like i need to confirm that reeds is a horrible place to go, either for shooting or to buy anything.

i already didnt like the place when i was new to guns and was shopping around for a .22 rifle. 2 of the staff were unwilling to answer questions, had bad attitudes and were very condescending and was very very very reluctant to let me hold the one in my hands.

so fast forward a year after i got my rifle and a pistol, i decided to come back just to see if the people there changed their attitude... nope wrong. still the same condescending a-hole attitude.

they were very unwilling to answer questions and you can just tell they are judging you as soon as you walk in the door. horrible place...

target masters is a better place to go at night, but my overall favorite place to shoot in the south bay is metcalf outdoor range. the people there are nice, respectful and understanding. they will keep you in check and make sure you are following the rules, but not chew you up or yell at you (unless you are just a moron).

It's only been open once out of my past four trips. I would definitely call ahead before going out if you had your heart set on shooting.

RANGE: Circle S Ranch
LOCATION: Petaluma
TYPE: Outdoor
WEB LINK: http://www.sonomashooting.org/circles.html
OLL FRIENDLY: Yes
AREAS: Pistol 25, 50 / Rifle 50, 100, 200 and 300yds as well as a Trap. Rifle, if you overshoot the hill, you just may hit an innocent cow. The 50 yrd rifle is not in the greatest position/angle (no shading from the sun).
FACILITY: 3/4
STAFF: 2-3
OVERALL: 3.5/4
COMMENTS: Depends on the day you go, most times, the staff are very friendly. But, there is one young guy on particular days, that is not very customer friendly(no smile, you are practically invisible to him). I hope Circle S read this and listen to the complaint, the bathroom is horrendous, when you walk in to it, it's like getting a slap in the face, please TRY to keep it clean.

Update:
As of 6/18, high powered rifles are NO longer allowed (223/556/308...). One person ruined it for all of us. Someone snuck in some steel core rifle ammo and it damaged the backstop. After the repairs, the damage was deemed too severe for any more rifle impacts. Pistol caliber rifles are still allowed: 45-70, etc.

That's too bad.

That is too bad that one selfish a-hole can easily ruin it for everyone else. We need a BLM land in the bay area up to 1000 yrds all others are a bit far to drive to on a regular basis.

I used to shoot (years+years) at Richmond Rod and Gun Club. Yes, the Range Masters (other volunteers) are deficient in interpersonal skills. They love to yell on the PA don't they?

Then...I moved to Utopia, near OROVILLE!!!!

This is Oroville Clay Pits, we call it OCP. Open, NO Range Master, no one yelling at me (yet), rapid fire, skeet, whatever you feel. Bad side: sometimes gets crowded with wild and crazies.

25, 50, 100 and a 400 Mtr. Berm. If you look closely you might see the berm. They expect me to hit a target out there with open sites, I can't even see the berm.

This is a shot of the benches; if you look to the far right you can get a look at the "brass lady". I asked her if she would be willing to date one of our CGN'ers, she said NO!

RANGE: Field Time Target & Training
LOCATION: Stanton (Not to be confused with the Gun shop of the same name a couple miles down)
TYPE: Indoor
WEB LINK: http://www.fieldtimetargetandtraining.com/
OLL FRIENDLY: Yes, they allow most rifle calibers (But no steel core ammo)
AREAS: 25 yards
FACILITY: 4/4
STAFF: 4/4
OVERALL: 4/4
COST: $18 first shooter $9 second shooter same lane for the first 2 hours.
SPECIALS: They have a "Lunch Time Special" MON-THU, 1st shooter pays $10 and 2nd $8.

COMMENTS: They have been on business for less than 2 months, so the facility is NEW, they appear to have a decent selction of handguns.
The manager, Craig, was very nice to me and a few other calgunners who shot there last week, Jesse, the man at the shop was cool and never showed a grin like most people that work at gun ranges/shops, the range officer, Les, was pretty helpful to people that asked for help and was very respectful when he had to say something to someone.
It is important to say that they sell remanufactured ammo. They actually remanufacture the ammo at the facility.
Their prices seemd a bit high ($115/1k of 9mm) , but the manager swears by its quality. He gave us some samples, I will come back and let you know when I try them.

OLL FRIENDLY: From the website, "Only authorized firearms and ammunition may be used. Any round traveling over 2000 feet per second is prohibited. Only .22 Long Rifle and standard handgun rounds are allowed on the 18 yard range." However, I've seen a guy with an M1A using low-velocity rounds so if you use sub-2000 FPS loads it should be alright
AREAS: 10 or so shooting lanes, targets positioned electronically from 0 to 18 yards. In the main area there is a large assortment of longarms and pistols, and they have a nice selection of rental guns. Holsters, gun cleaning supplies, magazines, and various other accessories for your firearms are all stocked along the walls.
FACILITY: 4/4
STAFF: 4/4
OVERALL: 4/4
COMMENTS: The staff is always very friendly and helpful, and I'm on a first-name basis with most of them. The owner, Bill, is very knowledgable and takes the time to talk with his customers one on one. The facility is always kept very clean, and if there is ever a malfunction on the range a staff member will always come out to help. I highly recommend the range to anyone in the S.F. Bay Area.
Bullseye though is quite expensive - like $20 for an hour and they watch the clock like a hawk. Also, they require you use new ammo - not even factory reloads.
