My friends and I went to Angeles Shooting Range in Sylmar this past weekend and could not say anything bad about the place. We will definitely go there again!

COMMENTS: It's a bit of a drive from where I'm at, but it's worth it. Polite staff and reasonable prices on reload ammo ($11 for 50rd .45/.40S&W). They allow holster draw, rapid fire, and OLL.

Clientele seemed to be just as friendly as the staff. Mostly military and locals.

I second that, Iron sights is pretty badass, very OLL friendly, No steel cased rounds can be shot there though, they hold magnets over all rounds you bring in too. No one so much as blinked when I mag dumped my ar either, pretty cool.

COMMENTS: Basically, no more and no less than the basics. Range goes out to 50ft., enough to make sure your OLL functions, and got some practice with your pistol at the same time. You do have to buy their .223 ammo, but I don't know the price since I'm still saving up for my first upper. Staff seem friendly enough, but seem virtually nonexistent after they take your money - I like it that way, I'm sure others don't. It can be a zoo; on some days the eses will be there to unload their magazines as fast as they can, while their targets at 7 yds remain undisturbed. Never felt unsafe, though. Having tables where you can clean your gear afterwards is a great idea. At the end of the day it's a little grimy and 50 ft. is a little short, but it serves my purposes when I can quickly get over there, just a mile away from the office.
I come here too... but the first time I called and asked if rifles were ok i was told .22 only... i wouldnt mind tryin out my new build there if they're ok with it

TYPE: Outdoor
WEB LINK: http://www.5dogsrange.com/
OLL FRIENDLY: Yes
AREAS: rim fire, hand gun, rifle (25, 100, 150, 200, 300, 400, 550), shotgun (sporting clays, 5 stand, trap thrower)
FACILITY: 4/4
STAFF: 4/4

COMMENTS: This range is about 15 mintes East of Famoso Raceway and 20-30 minutes NE from Bakersfied out in the middle of nowhere. The road to get there is nice too if you have a fast car and really want to test it out because there are no cops in the area. The range also has a private club area members only who are involved with cowboy shooting (SASS) and a precision shooting club...and also there is a place for LEO. Staff is very nice and helpful and the steel targets are fun to shoot at.

RANGE: OC Indoor Shooting Range
LOCATION: 684 North Berry St. Suite C, Brea, CA 92821
TYPE: Indoor
WEB LINK: www.ocindoorrange.com
OLL FRIENDLY: No, "pistol" caliber only. No shottys, but you can shoot .22lr rifles.
AREAS: Indoor to 50 feet.
FACILITY: 3/4
STAFF: 4/4
OVERALL: 3/4
COMMENTS:

Nice and friendly staff overall. The two guys working there were good about questions (I had a fair amount).

The down side is that it's on the expensive side. They charge $15/lane per hour. If you share a booth, the 2nd guy is $10/ hour. It's a bit steep IMO. Let's just say the other ranges I have been to are less that that.

Also, I went to the website before hand and it said "pistol" caliber only. I translated that into "no rifles", so I left the old .22lr at home. Big mistake could have brought it along for some plinking fun.

Is Angeles Shooting Range the closest ourdoor shooting range from city of Los Angeles (LAX)? I'm new to ourdoor shooting. I'm trying to find something close and shoot at that spot/range on a consistent basis.

Pros:
Located near the intersection of several major freeways. Big bore revolvers for rent, as well as an SKS, M1 carbine, M1911s and other weapons of note. The staff all carry openly, which reminds me of home.
Cons:
The location is in a really sketchy area and the parking lot will make you wish you had that CHL/CCW. The crowd on date nights (weekends) can be nervewracking, especially when someone waves a shotgun with a bad primer in the chamber in your direction and asks what to do. Also, the so-called "sideways-gun-toting bad crowd" does pop up every once in a while, but they're usually showing their girlfriends how to shoot a glock and are well behaved.

I'll add my opinions since I've been going here more lately, and have been there a handful of times in the past 6 months.

Like most people say, the best time to go there is during off-peak hours & during the weekday. I usually find Mon-Wed when they first open are the best times, as I'm usually the only one there. On Thursday & Friday afternoons, it actually gets pretty busy with may half of the lanes being used. On the weekends, it's pretty much full all day long. I haven't gone there at night, only after work since I work in downtown, but I wouldn't want to hang out around that area late at night for too long either. Parking can be tight if you go during 'normal business hours' since other cars from surrounding businesses and large cargo trucks take up a lot of room, but at least you have 2 ways to enter & exit from there.

Yes, it can be a bit nerve racking when you see the novice group of people come in renting & shooting everything and anything, but for the most part I really haven't encountered anyone who was being a complete idiot in fear of the safety for myself or others in there. Even the 'gansta' folks or eses who come in to talk loud with gangsta profanity and shoot sideways, are generally good about where they keep the gun pointed.

The main things I like is that I can use my shotgun in there, but you need to buy and use their Wolf rifled slug rounds ($3.98/box of 5). The other good thing is if you buy their ammo, then you only pay $12/hour to use the lane. If you bring in your own ammo, then you pay $18/hour. Their 9mm reloads are $11.98/box, and their .45 reloads are $14.98/box. If use shoot 200 rounds of 9mm in 1 hour, then the total price comes out to about the same if you buy their reloads or take your own ammo (if you paid $10/box). They don't allow any .223 but do allow .22LR rifles and other large caliber handguns but only allowing FMJ ammo. Their website pretty much explains everything.

The other nice thing is they have a pretty big selection of gun rentals if you want to try something out, and they are always expanding it. A few months ago, you could only rent a Beretta or Remy 870 shotgun. Now they have a lot more, including 2 Benelli SuperNova tacticals with pistol grips. Before, they only had the Colt M4 .22LR and the 10/22 rifles. Now they have more available including 2 GSG-5 guns (that I saw on the wall, maybe another was being used) that you can rent, at least one of them being a 5D titanium aniv edition. And renting a gun is only $5 so it's not too hard on your wallet, but you need to buy their ammo if you shoot their guns.

Atmosphere is relatively clean and ventilation isn't an issue from what I've noticed. Decent place if you go at the right time and want to get some practice in.

I'll add my $.02 since I just went to the La Puente Firing Range to shoot, since it's less than a 5 min drive from my house. First of all, I went there on a weekday during the middle of the day. There was only 1 other guy there shooting at the same time, so it was really quiet and nice to shoot there. Of course they said that Friday nights and weekends can get busy, but they have 24 lanes and maybe 15-20 get filled up during the busy parts of the weekend. Thus, they said it can get loud and smokey in there with that many people, but I haven't had the chance to experience that there yet. But for the range itself, it's pretty big and open in there. The booths have fully enclosed walls so I don't have to worry about flying brass from others (or from me shooting it at others) so that's nice. The hangers are a little dated but work fine for what you need. It's a older place, but when I went it was cleaned up really well and looked very presentable.

I know they're strict about using certain rimfire rifles or other long guns, but I was just shooting my Glock and brought in my own WWB ammo and didn't have any problems. Their lobby area is huge and very clean. Not much of a showroom but they do have some nice things on display in the case. Their handgun rental selection is pretty good. They only have about 1 per each gun (a popular gun like a Glock 19... only 1 of those available to rent), but they have pretty much every model current Glock there (including both G21 and G21 SF) and all of the SA XD model guns, and quite a few Para 1911's. There were others like some Rugers, HK, and Colt, but the SA XD and Glock lineups had the most available. Gun rentals are a little pricey at $10 per gun, and I didn't ask how much their reload ammo was (to use on their rentals).

The 2 guys working there were cool, although I really didn't ask much of them while I was there. They were younger guys, probably around my age. The only time I did need some assistance was when I was checking out their rental gun selection, and the guy was helpful and courteous, but then there wasn't anyone else there so it's not like he was having to deal with other customers at the same time. I've heard that some employees there aren't that great, but then I didn't see anyone else working there when I went, nor did I feel like I had to speak up regarding something there (which may be interpreted as having an attitude, thus receiving the same treatment from them).

Overall, I give them these ratings. But then this was my first time there and I went during an off-peak time. I plan on going back there again a few more times now since they are so close to my house, and they open early and stay open pretty late at night.

I didnt want my first post here to be a complaint but my experience with Reed's was just aweful and wanted to share my experience with them so that people here steer clear of them until they have changed their business practices and get better people working there....and lose the jack*ss attitude they have when they themselves are pretty ignorant.

I bought a Ruger 10/22 from them and of course i got royally ripped off. Should have bought a used one from Tabors gun store.

Their fees for the range are too high per hour.

Charged me extra money for "rapid fire" my 10/22....when i was clearly not.

Did not allow me to rent a pistol, when i told them i did not own a pistol but i have shot them before....he then gives me some retarded excuse about how pistols are super hard to control unlike a .22 rimfire....he was basically making fun of me because i was shooting a .22 rifle....such an ahole.

Then my friend wants to buy a marlin 60, which they did not have in stock but told him they could special order it for him. My friend puts money down and after ten days....he calls the store. They tell him the rifle did not arrive yet. After waiting a couple of more days...my friend calls again and this time, some other guy tells him that the rifle was never ordered. Luckily they returned his money....but my friend lost more than 10 days dealing with them.

This was my last straw with them. After about half a year, i called asking if they had a Saiga 7.62x39 in stock....the clerk replies "a what" and i repeat "a saiga 7.62x39"....clerk had no idea what that was....

Ofcourse after the whole ordeal of the clerk not wanting to let me rent a pistol...i ask my friends brother, who is a sheriff, to let me borrow his .45 glock at the San Leandro shooting range....lo and behold....i shot each shot exactly where i wanted it to go at 25 yards.

Please, do not go to Reed's in Santa Clara. I live in SF so i rather go to many other places for around the same distance.

Thumbs down LA Gun Club

Ive been to LA Gun Club two times. The first time wasnt a good experience. There was a group of friends spanning a few lanes, and they were muzzlesweeping often. And I pretty much left after I notice them shooting across lanes ROs are relaxed, but too relaxed. Not even a notice. I think gun ranges need a safety grading system similar to restaurants having cleanliness ratings.

2nd time I went, I went off peak to avoid a similar situation. I went because I wanted to rent a similar gun Im thinking about purchasing later down the road. I brought my P226 and 2 boxes of ammo, and my own targets. Jeez, these guys are really out to take as much money from you as possible. They would not let me shoot my measly printer paper targets and the guy's reasoning is that "non approved targets may have higher risk of flammability" He had to hold on to them. LOL!!! What BS. Everyother range let me shoot my paper targets.

Then, the same guy saw I had 2 boxes of ammo in my bag. He immediately said I would be charged 18 hourly, rather than 12 all day. I responded with "but I thought the rule was that if I buy your ammo and rent your pistol, its 12 unlimited? The first time I came I was allowed this." I was met with a stern "no". At this point I was about to just pack up and leave. But no, I really wanted to try their heavily scratched up SA Target Loaded 9mm 1911. So I asked for hourly, since I wanted to shoot my gun with its ammo as a comparison.

Onto the actual experience. Dirty place, noone sweeps their brass, bad lighting.. After 20 rounds through the rental gun, I notice the gun shot a consistent 2" to the left at 7 yards. I was resting the gun on the bench for half of them, and you can definitely see the misalignment of the rear sight.
Shot 10 rounds out of my pistol before I packed up and left.

42 dollars for 20 minutes of shooting a gun that doesnt shoot straight.

All that said, its still a good place if youre a casual shooter or newb. Just gotta beware of the unclear rule about "12 dollars unlimited lane use if you buy our ammo" because it actually means "only if you use our ammo and only our ammo"

Im never coming back to this place....

I'm going to preface this by saying that I've been a customer at Reed's for quite a while and I haven't had any experiences like this.

I don't know what you were expecting, but I bought my 10/22 from the old sports shop for pretty much what they're still going for now. I probably could have saved maybe $20 if I'd bought the gun from Big 5, but then again Reed's isn't a chain store and can't afford to buy guns in the same quantities. And then you're saying you got ripped off on a new gun because you should have bought used? I could buy a used car for a lot less than a new one, but that doesn't mean that I got ripped off on the new one. I don't know what you're trying to say there.

Quote:

Yes, the fees at Reed's are higher than many other places, but I feel it's worth it because their lanes are (almost always) well lit, well ventilated, clean, and most importantly, safe. I've shot at several other indoor ranges and honestly wouldn't shoot at those places ever again because the rangemasters weren't ensuring the safety of all the shooters on the range.

Quote:
Charged me extra money for "rapid fire" my 10/22....when i was clearly not.
I have never heard of Reeds doing anything like that.

Quote:

I completely understand their reasoning for this rule. It's almost like why a person with a license to drive a car isn't allowed to drive a motorcycle unless licensed for that too. Caliber aside, it's very easy to shoot a long gun safely. It's almost impossible to get body parts (except for your feet, I guess) in front of the muzzle unless you really try. With a hand gun, it's very easy to lose muzzle awareness if you don't use them very often. You may be able to maintain that muzzle awareness, but then again, you may not. There's no way for them to know until it's too late. Again, safety is Reed's number one concern, and I respect them for that.

Quote:

Considering that Reeds doesn't stock Saigas, can we fault them for that?

Quote:

I myself was turned away my first time because I only had rifle experience (and was underage, but that's a different problem altogether), and they were very nice about explaining their reasons. The first time I shot, I kept a fairly respectable group too, but what about that other guy who can't keep rounds on the paper at 7 yards and sweeps the range with the muzzle when he turns around to ask a question?

I dunno, maybe he had a bad experience, but from my years of shooting with them, I've never had any problems with them.

Nuuze,
I was a member there years ago, if you get the chance, become a member, it will save you some $ on your range fees. Depending on what you're shooting I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you ask about their action pistol. You have to spend a full weekend, Saturday in training, then Sunday doing setup, shooting and clean up, but it's a blast. Just TAKE YOUR TIME when you're shooting. I DQ'd myself, had to wait a full month then did it all over again. I think I was told about 10 times my first day that NO ONE has ever DQ'd and come back to try again. They can't say that anymore. I still miss it, but I moved a few months after I got my OK on the Action Pistol course.

COMMENTS: Hard to judge the staff, I think there were two people there, and I was the only one shooting. The guy working the front counter was nice enough, although I was all alone back in the range. Maybe a good thing or a bad thing I'm not really sure. I didn't mind. Overall range was nice and I'd definitely return, although I should mention that this was the first range I'd ever been to at all, so I really have no point of comparison.

Oh, and I believe it was $13.57 for range time, targets, and eye and ear protection.
Hey guys and gals:
New here and this is my first post so bare with me. I hope it was the proper place for a review of a range

I had heard a lot of bad things about this place as far as staff being rude.I went in there today just to check it out and get a feel for it and the guy behind the counter was a rude jerk. Very short with me and turned his back more than once when I was just asking him the basic rules of the range, just talking to me like an idiot or that I was bothering him, and I was the only person in the "shop". Not sure of the guys name short chubby guy with glasses kind of balding...Total dbag...Once I get my hardware I will not be using this place for practice, I'll drive twice as far just to avoid this guy

RANGE: The Rock Pile
LOCATION: Perris, CA (74hwy to Ellis, to Christmas Tree, top of Christmas Tree)
TYPE: Outdoor
WEB LINK: http://www.rockpilesteel.com/
OLL FRIENDLY: Yes
AREAS: Several Pistol @ 15-50 yards, 100 yard rifle, shotgun with clay throwers.
FACILITY: 2/4
STAFF: 4/4
OVERALL: 4/4
COMMENTS: It's a private property range, membership is $150 a year. You can shoot any day of the week from .5hrs past sun up to .5hrs prior to sundown. The 2nd sunday of the month is reserved for competitions, so no practice on those days. The place is a little on the... how do I say... rinky-dink side, but it's quiet, never crowded and much closer than going up to Lytle Creek for me. You can bring your own steel targets, there is one 6-target rack there you can use. Bill is the owner, 951-285-1808.

I posted this almost 3 months ago, and since then have been back to LPFR at least 6 more times, including just having gone yesterday. Now that I've experienced it more at different times/days when it was busy, I can now update my report a bit.

First off, I'll have to say that I'm really liking this place, regardless of what others have said about it. Even when I've gone there on a Saturday afternoon with "lots" of people there (14 lanes in use), there was still lots of room to shoot there and I never felt cramped like I do at OC Indoor or LAGC. After lane 12, there's a brick wall down the middle of the lanes so it helps separate things up. When 14 lanes were in use, it actually wasn't smokey or too loud... no louder than other indoor ranges. It's a little darker in there, but great if I want to try out my pistol light at a closer range. The main thing I like is how much room you have to work with, inside the fully enclosed booth (no flying brass issues) and along the carpet-covered table top behind you, which you can reload on.

Surprisingly, the place is kept up pretty well and it always clean when I've gone at all different times of the day or on 'busy' days. They ask that you clean up your casings, and when everyone is doing this the floors are nice & clear to walk on and stand in the booth without slipping on casings. Their gun rentals are $10, and their price on a box of 9mm ammo was $20 (PMC ammo). Not the best prices if you want to rent, but there's a decent selection to choose from, especially from the XD's and Glocks. A year membership allows you to rent guns at no charge, but you need to buy their ammo. I didn't check on their .40 or .45 prices. Targets cost $.75 each, about average as other places I've been to are either cheaper or more expensive for the same targets.

The crowds... I've been seeing lots of beginners go there to rent guns and shoot, similar to what I see at the LAGC. It seems like the vibe of the crowd at LPFR is more mellow than at what I see at LAGC. I notice more "gangstas" shooting at LAGC. I've seen both LAGC and LPFR with couples shooting and posing with each other for pics (date night or whatever). But from what I've observed, the people at LPFR seem to follow the safety guidelines better than those at LAGC. I'm just picking on LAGC because I've been there a lot more times and can relate to that.

Sure, LPFR is strict on the rifle use (no "AW-looking" rifles, including rimfire GSG's, M&P 15-22, etc). But for most pistol shooting, it's my new favorite indoor range, mainly because it's only 5 min from my house and they're open until 11pm every night (LAGC is 5 min from my work). However, the year membership is steep at $295, as that's double what OC Indoor charges for their full year membership (unlimited range time & free gun rentals at both places). Take it or leave it for what it is, but I enjoy shooting there.

My new scoring goes:

FACILITY: 3.5/4 (not a new place, but kept up pretty well)
STAFF: 4/4 (from the little interaction I've done with them)
OVERALL: 3.5/4 (not perfect, but a better environment for me compared to other indoor ranges nearby)

COMMENTS: Allows .22 to 50BMG. No armor peircing specific ammo. Lots of steel gongs from 125yds out to 475yds, paper targets to 300yds. Most RSO's are retired military, and will only get loud for a safety violation (yellow line, muzzle awareness etc). Seperated handgun and rifle lanes on same range. Two trap and one skeet(from high houses). Range site is also home to the Hogue Action Pistol Range (S&W international shoot, Speed Challenge, Ruger Take-5 Challenge etc). Other Club venues include blackpowder(no modern in-lines allowed at club shoots...pilgrim), Rifle and handgun silhouete (all calibers, out to 500yds for rifle), and Cowboy Action (Home of the internationally fielded John Wayne Shoot....bring enough gun!). LEO, Military, and Boy Scout friendly. Night shooting to 100yds on Thursday night.

Yes, I am a little biased(!) as I am an RSO there when I stay home long enough The website is a little aged, but still has all current info and pics.
A nice place. I used to think it was a little expensive until I started to read about the $12-15/HOUR ranges. Some of the RSO's are overzealous (ex. "muzzle UP!!" -- when muzzle down is probably safer and commonly/correctly taught and "remove your rifle from its case only in front of the yellow line!!" -- gee, OK.) but I would prefer them to be this way instead of slacking.

Staff/ Range Officer: Varies from 2/4 to 4/4 rating
Overall Rating: 3.8/4

Comments:
Pros - Rapid fire is allowed. No problems with OLLs and AKs. Can bring your own targets such as fruits and vegetables, bowling pins, etc. Has a very affordable $200 annual membership with generous benefits such as bringing a friend for free, unlimited range use, etc. Private ranges are available for rent. The drive there is great if you enjoy mountain roads. Very secluded, and the food is delicious. Also, Members get free use of Tac ranges if they're unused.

Cons - Can get crowded. No lane markers so placing your target stand at the correct location can be a challenge. If your target frame gets shot up, you lose your $8 deposit. You may get stuck behind a slow driver that won't pull over to let you pass on your way there and back. 100 yard limit with reactive targets. Restrooms are of questionable cleanliness. Range heirarchy : Gang members and posers on the West side of the rifle range, Serious shooter stick to the East. Similar phenomena have also been observed on the pistol range.
My experience with this place was less than stellar. While I know/knew nothing about where law-abiding citizens and ganster wanna-be's are supposed to shoot, I do know I had several total and complete boneheads on the range with me, with one of these groups claiming to be regulars. Also, just about every time we were out doing maintenance to our targets, at least one person had picked up their weapon and started playing with it before we were back to the line.
No distance markings, and no ability to shoot rifles at 25 yds(sight in iron sights)
PO'd me a tad but as well, but for all I know that may be the norm for outdoor ranges. I've only used military ranges and the desert for rifles before.

Is there an outdoor shooting range in Orange County? Or is Burro Canyon the closest?

Another 4/4 for Iron Sights. I go there every couple months, the staff is great, facilities clean, and they have a large selection of rentals. They allow oll's and have some of thier own to rent. I'm not sure of thier caliber limit, but I have seen some pretty big brass on the ground. The only downside is the range is only 25 yards, but shooting with air conditioning helps make up for that. Last time I went, my brother rented an ar15. It had a detachable mag, and it wasn't featureless, maybe it was a registered aw, but it was fun to shoot anyway. Overall, it's one of my favorite ranges to go blow off some steam.

I'm starting a new SASS Cowboy Action Shooting Club in the Coyote Valley. The club is located at the Coyote Valley Sporting Clays facility which is part of a cattle ranch. We are at 1000 San Bruno Ave. Morgan Hill. We are the Coyote Valley Cowboys and we meet on the 2nd Saturday of the month. We are in the process of building our facades, loading and unloading tables and a registration office. We usually shoot 4 stages and a mulligan. If you're interested in joining this very new club, come to our October 9th shoot. For further information, please contact Bad Eye Bobolu at manrubia2@aol.com or call (408) 722-0583

I moved down to Santa Clarita three years ago from the East Bay, and purchased a membership at A Place to Shoot (APTS) for the last two years. I enjoy going to APTS as often as I can!
ROs are great guys, and the multiple ranges can accommodate most plinkers and target shooters.

Just out of curiosity, how busy can ASR get during weekend? I live quite far away from ASR and the only time I can go is during weekend. So the last thing I want is drive 40 miles and got there with all lanes taken.

I've been shooting at United Sportsmen for about a year now, off an on (usually off because of work) and I have to give the thumbs up for it. Good staff, good equipment, excellent rules (not too restrictive, not too lax) and it's close to me.

shotgun course is member only i think, and they only allow slugs on shotguns on the rifle range, which is a shame. I've tried to become a member but can't figure out the procedures.

Exclamation Lets do this right

Hey everyone,

So I've been a long time cal gunner, but recently moved to San Diego and needed to find an OLL-friendly range and pistol training range. I went to this thread, but I encountered a problem that we have developed - while there is great data here in each range review, it's not searchable (at least in a quick meaningful way) and hard to view (page by page having to scroll through everything).

Here's an idea: Has anyone compiled down all the range information here into a Spreadsheet?

If not, I can do this, and I'll make it a Google Doc Spreadsheet that we can all then use. If you want a nice fancy form to enter in the data, I can provide that as well. Something like this: https://spreadsheets0.google.com/vie...TIwZDRkMGQ&ifq which would then populate the spreadsheet here for us all to view/use: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...thkey=CLLovs4F

Right now the spreadsheet is public with anyone who has the link (everyone who has the link can view it, but not edit it). I can open it up to the entire Internet if we want (everyone can view and edit regardless of who they are, and the search engines like Google will crawl it), or I can keep it public like this and add individuals who have edit capabilities (via email, in which case PM me your email address so I can add you).

Then the typical use case would be to come here and give your report, but after that head to the form link above and fill that out so we can get it in the spreadsheet.

Thoughts? Should we do it? If so I'll get started and try entering in some of the ranges already reviewed. If there's a way to couple this to the Google Maps document posted earlier that someone created, let me know because that would be great (maybe some way to link an entry to the pinned location in the map document).

I agree.

This way we can have the most up-to-date information when the range changes their policy. Easier also when the range is not responsive to phone calls or email (LAX Gun, you hear that?!)

Range: Iron Sights
Location: Oceanside
Type: indoor
OLL Friendly: Yes
Areas: Normal to small lanes
Facility: 25 yards
Cost: 12 per person 7 for each additional, first time extra 2 bucks
Staff: 3/4
Overall: 4/4

Not to crowded staff is nice. Shotguns allowed. Rapid fire allowed. open til ten everyday. Any caliber and gun is allowed. Cardboard target that you can tape stuff onto and they give you tape free at each lane. Felt safe, most people seemed safe. I pick up a lot of brass there too. Ive been going there a lot lately, its the best indoor range in my area.

Livermore Rifle Range is not friendly to shooters at all, they need to take some customer skill classes. For one example when you go to the window the person will ignore you till you knock on the window and when they turn they open the window to ask what you need?? Oh I gess next time I get this I should say a number 1 with a large coke! The range staff all hang out in the range house rather out doing what they are getting paid to do, be on the line! This range at one time was the escape from the other dive in the bay, Chabot, wow that place and the range manager John was about the worst place you can go to shoot at, but now Livermore has dropped to that kind of level. Now the Livermore shotgun range, that is a very good place with a smile when you go to the window. Maybe the Shotgun range manager should take the Rifle range over and manage it God only knows it could not get any worse. If you are a dues paying memeber at Livermore don't renew your dues till the Rifle Range management is changed.

Something like this should be posted to YELP so that new shooters are aware.

Default Range Master, San Luis Obispo

RANGE: Range Master
LOCATION: San Luis Obispo
TYPE: Indoor, 4 lanes (5?)
WEB LINK: http://www.range-master.com/Content.aspx?page=rangeinfo
OLL FRIENDLY: Didn't ask but doubtful
FACILITY: 3/4
STAFF: 2/4
OVERALL: 2/4
COMMENTS: LEO-oriented gun/equipment/uniform/etc shop, with a small range. We were in the area so we checked it out. The guy we dealt with had the typical gun shop cash register jockey attitude. Just this side of rude, assumed we didn't have handgun safety certs without asking (my wife didn't), absolutely refused to say "you're welcome" - and I thanked the guy way more than he deserved. The rest of the staff we interacted with were very polite and friendly - it seemed to be just the one dude with a stick stuck up somewhere. Hey, maybe he was having a bad day; he sure as heck had a bad haircut. Unless you like high and tight.

The range is clean and kept up well, and is small (4 or 5 lanes, I forget). One firearm per lane at a time for rentals (I don't know if that's different when you take your own in). I assumed because they're so strict with the range that they're not OLL friendly, but I didn't ask.

I probably won't go back.

Edit, 6 Oct 2010 6:30 PM Pacific:
The wife says she liked that it was so small/uncrowded/clean. She'd go back, in spite of the cash register jockey.
