Thanks. That was my gut feeling. Didn't want to bug them if somebody else already did. Probably closed until Dec to be honest. I've yet to see a reopen after a breakout.

What does Last Full Weekend mean? Does this mean it will be open on other weekends but just on certain days or certain hours (like until 1pm? ). . . or that it will be completely closed until rains come again?

Seriously? Or is this sarcastic? Because I love rain and as the years go by there is less and less. So, if this is true I have something to look forward to.

for real supposed to be an el nino pattern which would mean a wetter than normal rainy season coming up this late fall into winter. . .keep fingers crossed not just for shooting implications but also for replenishment of snow pack across the entire western USA. . . ie. our water supply.

Hmmm.......Any guesses on how soon a CalGunner gets cited for shooting and says he didn't see the signs and didn't know it was closed? happens every year.

This is looking like it could be the worst fire season in decades. While I hate to lose places like this over the summer since it is about 15 minutes from home, closing it temporarily is the smart time to do.

Ron .. You are correct

It is SO Dry out there it isn't even funny ..............

They were stopping shotting at 1:00 PM for a while now / That wasn't so bad , really
Get there early ... Shoot a while ...Leave before you get roasted !!!

But now .......The vegatation all around is like straw !!

Even the same day they put up the blinking sign ..A small brush fire started on the other side of the road ( North side ) / Maybe tossed cigarette
Being almost ascross the street from Cranston , It was held to about 10 arces

How exactly does shooting start fires? Only thing I can think of is steel jacketed ammo out of rifles. Or various forms of negligence.

I'd like to see the definitive proof that the projectile, other than tracer rounds, fired from any California legal firearm, and done so in a legal and responsible manner, has, beyond a reasonable doubt, contributed to the start of any brush fire. SHOW ME PROOF! Tired of knee jerk ignorant reactions to firearm use. Harmful precedent is set when responsible firearm use is either blamed for issues such as wildfires without definitive proof or firearm use is "banned" for ignorant and ill advised fear that it MIGHT cause an issue. SHOW ME PROOF! I have fired 1000's of rounds from multiple calibers into areas where extremely dry conditions exist, always responsibly ensuring that the backstop is clear of any objects that could create a spark if a bullet contacts it, and I've never seen so much as a puff of smoke in the dry brush. SHOW ME PROOF! Responsibility at all levels on the part of PEOPLE is the answer. Holding PEOPLE accountable is also important. Some dude tossing a cig. butt while shooting is not grounds for banning shooting...just sayin. It's grounds for throwing that persons irresponsible tail in jail, without access to cigs., for some time to think about his bad habit.

I hear people say all the time that we need to use common sense before shooting during "High Fire" season. By definition, "High Fire" conditions just means it's too damn hot outside to go shooting. Common sense doesn't tell me not to go shooting because I might possibly start a brush fire. Common sense tells me don't go shooting because it's too damn hot and I don't want to get heat stroke. Again, SHOW ME absolute scientific proof that shooting in dry conditions is directly responsible for the start of a fire. Don't tell me it's common sense to refrain from shooting during these conditions because of fire danger. The only danger in this kind of sentiment is the ridiculous message it sends about firearm use and it reinforces the anti's ignorant and ill-advised position.

If anyone on here can prove me otherwise or knows someone who can, I will provide the firearms and ammo (multiple calibers) to conduct the experiment, under controlled and responsible conditions, in front of a wide audience including the media. I'd be happy to eat crow if I'm proven wrong before God and everyone. But I'm willing to bet the cost of the ammo shot during a NORMAL shooting outing that no fire will start. I'm also open to any excuse to go shooting ; )

I understand you're point And where you're coming from

But ...............And it's a Big BUT

You also have to understand these canyons ( don't know if you've been there )
Are on a type of Honor system / And some people have No Honor

Sounds like you are a knowageable shooter

But the canyons stand on thier own . Nobody to check you in ...
Nobody to check what kind of ammo you shooting .Or what you are shooting People when left on their own will usually do stupid things
Like wanting to get closer to the shooting spot /parking thier hot truck on top of dry brush
Shooting targets that will spark
Shooting T.V.'s ect that let the shattered glass fly
Shooting propane tanks /// Shooting tanerite
Having a dusk to night party and leaving an un-attened campfire( I've put out a Few ...over the years

And with Bee Canyons being on the very fringe of a Huge forest system that goes all the way to the desert floor ..There is a lot of things to take into consideration
It's not the responsable shooter .............it's the knucklehead with a Shotgun in one hand and a Tall-Boy in the other

Eat Dirt, I couldn't agree with you more on everything you said. I just wish the folks with all the influence, authority, and media attention would come out and say exactly what you said instead of saying, "We're shutting down all shooting because it might start a fire". It's the long-term precedent this creates in the minds of those less experienced and those who wish to find any excuse to get rid of guns that bugs the crap out of me. It continues to fuel the lack of personal responsibility on the part of some shooters because it highlights and emphasizes the WRONG thing.

And no, I've not had the pleasure of shooting in Bee Canyon. Kind of far from where I live. I have a friend who shoots there a lot. Been wanting to get out there with him. Sounds like a great place when you get through the trash left behind by the knuckleheads you mention. Sounds like a great place to meet some great, like minded shooters such as yourself. Hope to do so some day soon.

I've seen the sort of stuff Eat Dirt is talking about, and while it would be great if there was a way to somehow just make idiots disappear, Hemet is actively importing them so it has only gotten worse in recent years. People shooting glass (the refractions of broken glass cause fires all the time), shooting steel jackets at rocks, parking hot cars on tinder piles, etc. I don't have articles or studies handy to cite, but I recall incidences of each of those starting fires, and there would be few worse places to get stuck if a fire broke out and the spread would be pretty major.

Bee Canyon is a real nice place, and while I personally would divert a portion of fire fighting funding into land grading to keep the place from drying out in the first place, getting a bureaucracy on board with that isn't likely to happen, so having a local shooting place for part of the year is probably as good as it will ever be.

Wonder if it was enough to float my Tundra hub cover that fell off at the last clean up. Last time I drive that fast on that road (at the very entrance, not the winding part).

$87 for a replacement and I'm not in any hurry to spend that much for some plastic that isn't a target of some sort. I'll have to check the junk yards I guess.

Just wanted to post this Info. about the dirt road into Bee Canyon...

Last weeks storm that dropped oner 2 inches of rain has made a MESS out of the road

The flume water system along the staging area gone

There have been huge washouts along the road

In some spots a 4 X 4 will be needed

It's going to take them a while to fix the road so a regular car can make it
Just today I saw 2 places where people have got stuck
And It's ALL dry !!!

I'm heading up to my cabin in Idyllwild this weekend to lay some new wood flooring. Was hoping that maybe Bee Canyon might be open for some target shooting after the work..

Is there any chance it'll be open for shooting or are we still waiting for the rainy season?

Yeah, zero chances. Forest service might outright lynch somebody caught shooting this time of year.

Eat dirt can comment if he knows more, but the norm is to NEVER have open days from the summer closure until the first or second HEAVY rains of fall. Often it is no go until mid December.

Good rain tonight. Hopefully the first of many! Berdoo Canyon is a nice spot, but a 10 minute drive is so much nicer...
