Today march 18th the activity level is a 3 so shooting is only till 1pm. Seems like they are getting more cautious about the possibility of fire and cutting us off early compaired to the years before.

Hi all,

Long time lurker, only had a couple of post

How far north on Bee Canyon Trail do you have to go before you hit the target shooting areas? I'm going for the first time probably on this Friday, don't want to be in the wrong spot. According to the site activity level 1 should be in effect.

Usually the rangers drop in to visit right?

Thanks in advance

First :: Welcome Aboard !

Second :: Turn off Hwy. 74 ( Go to the left )
Follow the only dirt road about 1 ( One ) mile
The first shooting spot will be the canyon with the big bolders in a row / to lay your gear on and shoot from
All the shooting spots will be on your left

Thanks a bunch Ranger Dirt . The site was a bit vague on specifics, so that helped. Do the rangers drop by often at the spots?

Also Helped and Lady learn to fire her 38 Snub Nose out there it was a pretty good day

Shooters Make sure you a calling the Rangers office daily about the Canyon Fires lvls are bound to be high this weekend and with the Banning Fire going on they will probably be restricting shoot times or closing all together if it stays this way

We went out today around 12 and to our amazement there was hardly anyone out there. Actually I was more surprised when I called and she said open until one. WooHoo!

I don't know what valley we were in but it was trashed. I asked my Son to start picking some of the husks while I unloaded, he asked me for a trash bag and went at it. I was thinking, that's a good start. My wife and son got to shoot a few AKs for the first time and a Glock we just got, everything ran 100% so that's always nice. Rangers rolled up about about five til one and told us we had seven minutes and left. Really good day I was thinking. We finished off the ammo we brought, cleaned up, packed up and started heading out. Both my wife and son told me they like the Glock better than the the 226(Glock has a smaller grip), but my wife said she like the 1911 the most. I told my wife ill keep her a little longer and told the boy I cant kick him out until he turns 18.

Today was a good day.

BTW EatDirt, was that you in the UTV hunting for brass?

New to the forum. I live in French Valley. I'll keep an eye out for range clean day. Is the Bee Canyon area still open? Does it usually close in the summer due to fire hazard?

It all depends on mother nature, If we have a wet fall, high humidity and no santa anna winds it will open early. If there is no rain, high winds and humidity in the low teens it might be way later.

The Forest Service collects weather data every day, that along with weather forecasts let them determine when people can have camp fires when camping, use a chainsaw to cut firewood with a permit or go shooting. all three are tied together.
