I went twice today First time was just a drive by in the morning and with some luck my afternoon cleared up. Felt good to shoot and take some new things out, stuff that was not lost on the last boating trip.

My Wife, son and I will be out early in the morning, around 8am. Ill be in a siliverish Tundra. Im not sure how crowded it will be but feel free to stop and say hi or share a spot if you like.

There is No Shooting tomorrow, Monday Dec 10th. The activity level for tomorrow is 5, it should go back to normal once the winds are over.

Is this spot accessible by car? I have been wanting to go check this place out and maybe let the wife shoot a little.

If you have a low rider/prius/other low car... you might make it. I have seen a prius out there before, but something with a little ground clearance would be suggested. No 4x4 needed though

How far can you shoot out to and is it flat or are you shooting into the mountain like it is at Steel Peak? I am looking to zero some new optics on my first run out there.

Nate : Everyone is in thier own small revine to shoot in
There are 7 of these small canyon slices on the lower section

Some are only good for pistol work / A few you can get 100 yards
Now if you have a truck you can go up the grade to Shotgun flats ( Big flat platue ) and there I see guys doing 200 yard shots ( Just shoot to the west, There are trails to the east )

Go to post # 5 of this thread for yardage................

Yup, supposed to rain through the weekend too. So expect it to be sunny by Sunday.

We had a blast last weekend, We had limited time so we just wanted to throw as much lead as we could and we did. haha

Got tomorrow off, thinking about heading out after dropping the chitlin off at school. Supposed to not rain until 2 or 3pm. Glad my Pilot has 4wd!

Edit: Nevermind, don't feel like going to the range after this morning's sad, sad news. Prayers going out to all the families involved...

Bee Canyon Road Report !!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes .. The canyons got a good amount of rain

But ,,The roads are just fine . A few more ruts and dips
On the plus side there is No More Dust

.
Now there is that one mud puddle that always apprears between the 3ed and 4th shooting spots ( The ones that are hooked together )

Advice ::: Leave the '62 Impala lowrider at home and you'll make the road just fine

I've never been here before, but I'm on leave until the 6th if any of you want to meet up for a day of shooting and some clean up.

I have a timer and a bunch of targets I can bring to run some pistol and carbine drills.

1st timer looking to get up there this weekend. Been checking the weather and it keeps changing from sunny to possible rain.
With all this rain we've had I would imagine fire levels would be very low, but I'm not very familiar in how to confirm if it will be open.

  • Checked the http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/sbnf/...6525&actid=106 website and says area is open with moderate restrictions.
  • Do I need to call 909-382-2600 on Saturday to confirm?
  • Does "moderate" mean that shooting stops at 1PM?
  • And I understand to take trash to the Cranston Ranger station. Do you pass this on the way in/out of the canyon?

If there's anything else I'm missing or should be aware of I would be really appreciative if you'd enlighten me.

And Gruntin, I'd be interesting in meeting up to see how poorly I'd run the Bill Drill!

Call Idyllwild Ranger Station 951-659-2117 and ask for the activity level for Bee Canyon (area 673)

level 1 ... all day shooting

level 3 ... shooting till 1pm

level 4 or 5 is no shooting

They open around 8 or 9 and close at 4:30 and are closed 2 days during the week, not sure which. call around 3 or so the day before and see if they have the next days level.

If not ask here or PM me, some times I can get the activity level around 5 or 6pm for the next day.

I was up at Bee Canyon with my daughter today for our first trip. It was pretty full of people, we found a spot at about the 5th canyon. We spent about 30 minutes cleaning up the place - filled a large trash can full of junk and shotgun shells. The we broke out the .22 rifles and had a great time plinking at some targets we brought. The road is hard packed and has some ruts but they're no problem for my 2WD van.

Glen ,

You should be able to make it up the switckbacks up to Shotgun Flats in a 2W/D
We drive up there all the time in the wifes 2 W/D suburban. A little rough and bumpy ,But worth it
( The flats is big open area that has some nice views and the last spot to shoot )

No problem. We're glad to help. We made a dent in the mess on the range we were at but there's still ALOT of junk that needs picking up. Any cleanups planned?

And thanks for your recent posts Eat Dirt. Glad to know 4wd isn't necessary and for the directions to the dumpsters.

Was out there today and we had a great time! The trail was in pretty decent condition, considering the recent rains in the area. Nice to see families out there getting their younger kids into shooting, too!

I was out there late this afternoon ( Saturday 29 )

The road was already starting to get a little " Mucky "

and now it's been raining for a while
I would Not recommend going tomorrow // Sunday
I've seen that road turn into Chocolate Pudding

Next Bee Canyon Clean Up........January 26,,Saturday
----------------------------------------------------------------

I was just out there yesterday and I'm thinking of cleaning up Canyons #3 and # 4
Easy to get to and lots of parking
These two canyons have a trail that connect the two , So it would be an easy Clean-Up

I just discovered bee canyon a couple weeks ago and have been shooting there since. I'll most likely be able to make it out the clean up on the 26th.

Just curious, do you know when you take the road all the way back and it does a 180 and starts going up the mountain? Are there any more ranges up that way? I haven't ventured that far yet

That is the steepest part of the road
And there is a few more spots up there
Halfway up the switchbacks there is a spot on the right side of the road And that one is Really getting trashed because people are taking " Stuff" down into the canyon on the right to shoot and then Not...............Bringing it
back up

The other is about1/2 mile more up the road Called " Shotgun flats"
Nice open flat area behind a steel gaurd rail ( To stop people from dragging trash into the area to shoot )

Also to stop " Partyiers" from having Bon-Fires up there
I have come across a few still smoldering from the night before
And put them out !!!!

Road report::

The road going into the shooting areas is in good shape after all the rains

The only real muddy spot is the flat area between the middle shooting spots
just stay to the left of the mud bog ,,,,and you'll be fine
