Default CCW for military

Is RSD currently requiring military to take training for CCW permits?

Well then screw that, I'll maintain my out of state residency as long as I can.

The training requirement is spelled out on the law; individual departments don't have the leeway to bypass it.
How does maintaining out of state residence change your decision? CA won't recognize another state, and won't issue to non-residents. (But with your orders, your IA might issue as a resident)

Just won't carry. Got a lock box I used for my unloaded pistol back in the day. I'll just resecure that and be ready to quickly load and rack that baby if **** goes down.

RSD as in Riverside Sheriff? If so, I would recommend you apply asap...It was an EXTREMELY easy process, though the wait for an interview may be a while. You can always call in and ask if they have earlier slots available once you have a date. The paperwork etc was a breeze. Both the class and range time were a joke, and the professionalism of the RSD CCW division people as well as classroom amd range instructors was amazing. Have had my CA CCW for almost 2 years now...have removed and added several handguns in the last year where the turn around was literally 2 days. My renewal is coming up so hopefully the process is still the same. Let me know if you got any questions, not an expert but can give some advice. Later brother.

You’d rather refrain from carrying than go complete some short training event?

Just outta curiousity, what is your opposition to the training?

I've been through military firearms training, about all they cover are the basics of weapon handling.

Your CCW class will have some content on weapons handling, but of lot of it is going to cover the applicable state laws and regulations concerning the carrying of weapons and their employment.

Your military background ain't gonna cover those bases.
