Default Passport for a PPT ?

Just want to preface this by saying 99% of the time Ive had a great experience with riflegear and their staff but today has really put me off man. Went in to do a ppt with a fellow calgunner waited about an hour from the waitlist little longer than Id like but I understand this is a hot market for new owners. Get to the counter to do the ppt and we are told BOTH the seller and the buyer are required to have a passport or birth certificate to do a ppt. No store in orange county has ever required this not one and Ive done maybe 10 transfers or so before at other gun stores and never had this issue. No where on the website does it preface this. I dont hate riflegear Ive purchased many times before from their establishment but really annoying this isnt listed or said anywhere.

Before I gave up my DL it was a real one. The state issued a none real state ID. When I questioned that decision I was told I need to bring in the same paperwork they had already gotten from me for the real DL. Asshats. So I needed my passport to transfer a gun.

I'm pretty sure due to covit that the federal government has once again pushed forward the date that everyone needs to get real ID.

Real ID makes you a "citizen" so you can do things like take a train, flying a plane, kill the Alien bugs on Klendathu, breathe open air, get a job in front of Home Depot, etc.

So if it's not federally legally required yet only a Bizarro World state like California would require it at this point in time.
So, yes of course California state government and politicians require it, for things they don't want you doing.

Yes, just as I thought they pushed it forward all the way until 2003...

" Starting May 3, 2023, every traveler will need to present a REAL ID-compliant license or an acceptable form of identification to fly within the U.S. Passengers who do not present an acceptable form of identification will not be permitted through the security checkpoint."

More stores have been requiring passport or birth certificate from the seller on a PPT if you have a federal limits apply CA DL or ID.

I've never known one that didn't require it on the buyer.

The requirement that I find super silly is when a green card holder has a federal limits apply CA DL or ID and still has to provide a birth certificate or passport. A green card pretty much is perfect proof of legal status to be in USA.

Were both the buyer and selling using a 'Federal Limits Apply" driver license? The additional ID requirement in that case has been around for a few years now. Sorry for the confusion, but we do have a link in our FAQ page on the website detailing ID requirements when using a non-Real ID. If you DID have a Real ID then please give us a call to discuss as you should not have a secondary ID requirement in that case.

And here is what the CA DOJ has to say about it:
