Default Good Place for outdoor shooting?

Hello everyone! New to Calguns and hope I can get some recommendations from my Riverside locals!

Any recommendations where my family, friends, and myself can go out and shoot? Currently we go to Barstow but it’s a little far. I’m wanting to join a club but many clubs I see have a long waitlist or I won’t be able to bring my family and friends (there’s about 6 of us total usually). I’m near Lake Matthews and heard about Corona Sportmanship but their website states they’re not accepting new members at the moment. Any clubs, decently priced ranges, or spots we can check out that is somewhat local or is Barstow our best bet?

Thank You in advance!

You can get a LIMITED membership to West End Gun Club which is in the same area as Lytle Creek. Which will be your best best. Raahaughes is over $30 PER PERSON for TWO HOURS. So, your little 6 person group will cost you almost $200 just to get in and you'll be gone in 2 hours.

Do I need a 4x4 to get to WEGC? I saw I needed to cross a stream for the private but I’m not sure if that’s the range for the limited/public range?

Try http://www.rainbowshootingrange.com. You can add family as associate members, don’t know about friends.

No you do not need a 4X4. During the wet season there are times there is a stream running but when its not raining I have made it there with my front wheel drive mini van.

Does anyone know if Corona Sportsmen's Club is members only on weekends? I remember reading somewhere on here that they are open to guests on weekends but is that only if I'm accompanied by a member there?

As a Rivvie Local I feel your pain. We've been making desert trips to the same area you go to for decades. When SP was open for shooting it was a lot more convenient, but those days are gone.

Sure, it's a long drive and I don't go nearly as often as I like, but I do prefer the benefits of shooting out in the dez.

Good luck on your search, wish I had a closer alternative as well, but I haven't found anything yet.

Default Other Possibilties

You could head to the Palms Springs area.

High Desert Rod & Gun Website is about the same drive (maybe 10 miles less) and open to the public Friday - Sunday. $10/person

Palm Springs Gun Club Website isn't open to the public, but you likely know someone and membership is very reasonable. No rifle range at the moment though.

Haha yeah you know how it is! I really don’t mind making the drive out there once in awhile but it just kills me making the drive back when we’re all tired then there’s traffic on the way back, we’re all hungry, it’s a hassle lol

I’m looking into Corona Sportsmen’s Club right now since I live near Lake Matthews. Just got an email from Pete that there’s a waitlist currently but to find out more info, I should go to their next meeting in January. I read somewhere on here that guests can come by on the weekends but it was an old post so I’m not sure if that’s still allowed or if I need to be accompanied by a member /: waiting for a reply but I hope weekends are still open as I mainly shoot on the weekends anyways lol

Heard about those two ranges. The thing is, and this is just me personally, I believe there’s BLM land in Indio like 15-20 mins more down the freeway? Went a while ago. If I was to head out to those ranges, I feel for me I might as well make the extra drive to Indio. And if I’m correct, isn’t the membership for those two clubs not necessarily unlimited range time but just a discount? I could be completely wrong but I think read somewhere it was?

I don’t know if you sorted things out yet, but the Palm Springs Gun Club might be your best option. Pistol and rifle ranges and friends and family are allowed a lot of the time. The weekends are usually packed in the morning with matches. Great group of guys and great members

Rod and gun club is a little too rules based for me. I’ve lived around guns my entire life so the whole gun safety rules are 100% followed, but the other stuff such as having to have all guns at your bench with all ammo and mags gets a little cluttered. Also there’s not much movement allowed and no drawing from the holster. It’s like and indoor range outside. Not a whole lot of real training value and still costs you money if your a member. I don’t compete but I shoot twice a month so I go to these places frequently.

I’m interested in the 29 palms range.

What happened to the gun range in Perris? Did it close. I believe it was called Wren gun range but I can't find it when I google gun ranges in Perris or by it's name. That would be a lot closer to his home, it's outdoors and they have/had handgun and rifle ranges. I don't know anything other than that and that's several years old when they were first opening. I belong to Rainbow so that's why I don't know much about Wren or any other ones in the Perris area.

I did thorough research on BLM maps. All of SOCAL including the deserts to the East/North of LA/SD are restricted from Recreational shooting due to continuous fire restrictions. Commie Calif for ya. I bet those fire restrictions never go away.

Wanted to update Hodge road.

It is PACKED!!! Beware of idiots. I was there today for a few hours and the neighbors are all being safe and having fun. Towards the end, multiple full auto guns are going off in the distance. We packed up and left soon after.

What’s wrong with full auto? There are legal full autos in CA.

I am sure that is the case. But since Hodge road is a legal gray area to shoot, I didn't want to take the chances.

I’m not sure how gray it is. When I’ve been out there, a member of my party called the sheriff and asked, they said it was fine to shoot there.

Gray area as it is BLM and not listed as a shooting recreation site.

Is it open? If so, I wouldn't really bother. Seems like a ton of UTV people are out there flipping their rigs and killing their passengers lately.

I think the last time I was at Bee Canyon was the last week of January, and there was definitely a lot of SxS traffic on the trail. Razors and such are as big as VW bugs and take up a lot of space on the trail.

The SxS's I saw didn't all speed, but some definitely did. I wonder how many near misses and collisions there are up there? I know I wouldn't ride a bike on that trail on a weekend, that's for sure.

Just checking in to see if any free areas to shoot are opened? I am in Moreno Valley but am willing to drive to Barstow if that is the only choice.

Anyone know anywhere closer? If not what is the best place to go in Barstow.

Just dont want any trouble
