Default Is there still an active CGSSA Riverside Chapter?

I've been off the forums for a little over a year and I cant find any info on local monthly shoots or much at all other than the typical "where can I shoot now" questions.

So... is there a CGSSA Riverside Chapter anymore?

I know many of us (including myself) were off-put at the 2014 Raahauges event where CGN placed support with then Sheriff Sniff, without consulting locals at all. We lost many good members in the aftermath of that tragedy and then we lost Steele Peak and another batch of great volunteers.

SO... what is happening in Riverside?

Good to see you posting again Darryl', welcome back.

I just assumed that you went deep into the rabbit hole of reloading and decided that cranking out ammo was a better use of time than posting. Makes perfect sense as that's what I've been doing.

Been kind of quiet around here. Check out these links, and take note of how old they are as well as the fact that they're still on the first page here.

Thanks dr...

I see that it appears our local chapter has in fact died! Our former area leader (Curtis) hasnt posted since 2017. I hope the CGSSA isnt paying him a stipend still!

Is anyone going to step up and take the reins???

I'd be down for more shoots at RISR. It was a great place to have our shoots, new, clean, great ventilation system, and we could have one of the two indoor ranges to ourselves!

I've sent a pm to pennys dad, the CGSSA President, concerning your question, with a link to this thread. He may respond in this thread or advise me. If the latter, I will post his reply here. Give it some time as he is a busy guy between his work, home life and running the State CGSSA. There will be an answer asap one way or the other. Thank you.

Welcome back Darryl. It seems like the split up of the old IE subforum, into Riverside/San Bernardino had a huge negative impact on our area. If I had the time or means to take the reins, I happily would. Unfortunately, life gets in the way, as I suspect is the case for any others interested in getting involved in such a commitment. I'd definitely try to participate in as many local events as I could if someone had the time to commit to organizing them.

I'm interested in participating and helping get our area chapter active again! We were once a very strong area with Steele Peak and Raahauges here in our backyard. The Raahauges -Sniff Support incident, moving monthly shoots from RISR to RMR, and the closing of SP all contributed to our areas membership and participation decline.

However, my current situation prevents me from taking on such a big commitment (CGSSA Community Leader) at this time. And honestly, I doubt if I had the time, that Kestrell would allow me to be an area leader... as I've chaffed his hide over the Sniff incident and other stuff in the past!

I am a new member here to the site and while I have been shooting my whole life I just recently purchased my first handgun and will be teaching my wife how to shoot.

It appears that it has been some time since this sub has been active, can we get a post of what the responsibilities will be and some way to find out how many people would be interested in participating?

I'd like to offer my .02, and my take on this age old issue...

No matter how long you've been a shooter, your wife is highly unlikely to look at you as an expert. Not knocking you at all, its just the way most relationships go. I have been a shooter for over 40 years and I was going to do the same as you until I read an article on this topic.

In that article the husband faced the same dilemma as most men do, and wanted to avoid any potential arguments. The writer explained how he called local ranges to find a range that offered a 1 hour intro to shooting PRIVATE lesson. The wife was happy and got to start with gun safety, then moved from .22 cal handguns up to a .40 --- using both semi auto and wheel guns. Everyone is happy, and she will look at the range owner/officer as an more of an expert.

If you own a Glock of any kind I'd suggest checking out the GSSF, a great pathway into competition shooting!

Noted and I thank you for sharing that. I believe she is leaning on my combat experience in the education part. While I dont proclaim to be an expert, for the most part I will be instructing in basic gun handling safety, maintenance, and general guidance. The rest I believe comes from self learning thru shooting. Should she wish for anything more she already knows she can seek out instruction.

Responsibilities: Setup and communicate an event that happens every 4 to 6 weeks. We can provide you some hand some training, by you attending one or two monthly and watching and participating.
If you start a Community event we will invest in getting you some training for RSO and Pistol Instruction.
