Default Advice for running for Assembly?

Anyone have any advice for someone interested in running for State Assembly in a district that is entirely (D)? This person is a solid 2A, NRA member and conservative (R). Realizes it is a long shot, but is interested in doing it anyway if for no other reason than to have the podium for a bit and not leave the race completely unchallenged.

Tell him to run as a democrat, staunch gun rights hater, and free everything, then when he is elected he would be a mole.

I had a relative that ran for political office here in CA. and the big take away that I got from that person is you damn near have to "prostitute" yourself to get funding.

If your person that wants to run, they must be dedicated and have the stamina and intestinal fortitude to "press the flesh" and be a persuasive speaker.

It's a 7/24 situation a you MUST get the media and that's not likely unless you really have something that's different.

Chances of getting funding from the GOP here in CA is about nil. So be prepared to fund your own campaign.

Respectfully
Kyle

Oh, and best wishes to whom ever you know that is considering a run.

To add to my comments above: surround yourself with people that you know will be loyal to you and are willing to "work" just as hard as you do and expect little but a WIN.

There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes such as "cold calling" for funds, "meet and greets" and a LOT of frustration.

Those around you can help make or break your campaign, choose your people wisely and don't be afraid to let those that don't produce go, regardless of friends or family. You are the HR of your campaign.

Be true to yourself.

Respectfully
Kyle

Almost nobody gets elected to the assembly here without first being in local goverment, first. Start with city council, county supervisor first.

And many said businessman Donald Trump would never be elected to anything much less President of the United States. Yet here we are with the greatest President in generations, President Donald Trump.

1. Change his name to T’Nikwa Garcia-Xi (pronouns they/them/their).
2. Don’t do any interviews / photo shoots.
3. Create flyers filled with lib talking points and images of diversity.
4. Get name on ballot.
5. Win.

It’s the Dave Wilson model.

Change party affiliation and be the second ranked Democrat in the primary.

Senator Ben Nighthorse Cambell switched from Democrat to Republican in Colorado.

Senator Arlen Specter switched from Republican to Democrat in Pennsylvania.

Support gun control. 9,999 out of 10,000 prohibited people aren't prosecuted when they try to buy guns, including the Odessa spree killer who remained free to commit mass murder. Call to prosecute them.

Tell people weapons of war should be regulated appropriately. Hem and haw about what that means.

Play to win or stay home.

I ran for office once and found that raising money took time, but was easy; the fun part is telling the people who gave you that money that you're not going to espouse their favorite cause. But don't sweat that: for every one you piss off, there are three who are impressed that you said no.

There are plenty of reasons to run. Encourage them.

Now will the district nominate two democrats for the general election? If so then the advise on switching is reasoned.

If not and its possible your friend can win the 2nd spot in the general election then stay as a Republican even if it means losing - why - because as a Republican nominee they have a seat on the State Republican Party committee and they can even appoint others to the committee. I use to be on the committee but it was decades ago; it needs good gun rights supporters.

Have your friend contact Kamila. She’s probably got some time on her hands. She could show him how to suck up donations and garner plenty of firm backers.

Don't forget to promise reparations.

Excellent advice...even school boards, whatever is available. That is what can get you a paid staff and a chance to be inside the system. Once inside, you'll be challenged to do what you want to do, but that is the nature of politics. You will need allies and this is how you get them.
