Default What's the outcome of passing a FSC test?

I just got my hunting license, and the next step is to take a FSC test. IIUC almost every gun shop will provide this test. What information should I provide to them and will I get a certificate after passing the exam?

Thank you!

Do you have a pulse?

You’ll pass.

Jk

Pay the fee and provide DL info, pass the test and it’ll be issued. There’s a study guide online. Mostly basic firearm safety.

Only need fsc to buy handgun if you have a hunting license which works for long gun purchases..

https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/fscinfo

If you pass, the test administrator prints the FSC and hands it to you.

They might want to get a sidearm. The outcome is you get an FSC number, a small cheap printed piece of paper and that is good for 5 years to buy a handgun. I cut it up to the size of a business card and self laminate with scotch tape.

Like tabascoz28 mentioned, you'll get a print out of your FSC....

I usually make a few copies to store in each safe that I have and then let my ffl laminate one on my next visit. That's the one I carry in my wallet

Some shops do a quite nice wallet-size laminated card for you.

Make sure the shop signs the FSC.

Also meets CMP requirements for certified training in order to buy from CMP. Check with CMP for exact language/reasoning.

I had to renew my FSC last year. The test is no longer about gun safety or the operation of a firearm but political correctness. Just answer every question with the most leftist answer and you will get a 100% score.

I was told that the person who gave you the test is the only person that can renew it . Hunting license exempts the fsc for long guns I know that for fact .

What was the source for this info? I have never heard of this.

Mine just expired, but I now have a CCW, so I don't need to renew the FSC. If I did and had to spend a half day driving and counter time at the shop to renew where I did mine, I'd be pretty unhappy about it.

Incorrect. The person who gave you the test is the only person who can reprint a lost, unexpired certificate without you having to pay and take the test again.

But you can pay to retake the test (to replace a lost or expired one ) anywhere with anyone, and you can do that whenever you want, as many times as you want. You could pay and take the test and get a new FSC every week if you wanted, at a new place every time.

And you don't renew these things IIRC. When they expire, you just get a new one - and if you are smart, you only get a new one the day you need it to buy a gun that requires it - you don't go out and get a new one the day your old one expires because that starts the 5 year clock.

Thank you for clarifying that for me . It was a while ago when the guy who issued mine told me that . I knew it was something like that . I stand corrected. Thank you .

The simple answer to your query is after passing your FSC test you can still get a cup of coffee most places for $3.00.

The result is you're going to keep buying more guns. It's like that series of children's books, If You Give A Mouse...

If you give a dude a FSC...

...as long as you don't open-carry, or print/signal that you're carrying concealed.
