Default Bushnell Scope Chief 2 Command Post

I have a Bushnell Scopecheif 2 Command Post (made in 1966) and have always loved this scope. However, over the years, the windage and elevation dials have become frozen. I’m assuming that the grease has harden up and am thinking of applying some heat to them to see if they will free up.

I also spoke with Bushnell support who stated that they wouldn’t be able to repair it due to its age. Before I attempt to repair it myself, thought I would ask here if anyone has any experience working on old scopes and if I should be aware of anything?

I am prepared to purchase a new scope if needed but would rather keep this one on my Remington 700, BDL 270 Win. My primary deer rifle.

Thanks in advance. (No, the scope is not for sale. It’s a family heirloom)
